Nix goes to take Cecilās sweater off because, even for a human, he feels incredibly overheated. Itās the combination of smoking and the alcohol but Cecil bats his hands away regardless. His hands snapback, mostly in surprise, not because this little peanut is hurting him.Ā
He raises an eyebrow thought and bites his tongue on saying something insulting becauseā¦he knows how Cecil is. One wrong comment and heāll crack like an egg; this probably applies extra carefully if heās intoxicated. But really? Cecil thinks heādā¦do something like that?Ā
Nix knows how to take advantage of a situation, but he wouldnāt sleep with someone drunk. Not unless he was drunk as well and both we were willing for a good time. Not like this.Ā
Not to Cecil.Ā
Instead, he says,Ā āI wouldnāt,ā He shushes him.Ā āStop squirming, youāre going to fall off the bed.āĀ
He moves to take off his own shoes, undoing his jeans and tossing them aside. Heās left in just a simple black tee and boxers and Cecil at least wants him to join. Nix has no problem with thatā¦he thinks thatās what he was going to do anyways.Ā
Cecil has not the first one to notice that heās very cold all the timeā¦not quite the sensation of the corpse but not warm either. Much like the darkness of the sea, the cool feeling of sand between oneās toes if you dig them into the underbed. Just like that. Sea water rushing over your legs.Ā
He doesnāt retain heat, but never feels cold. But right now, that seems to be exactly what Cecil wants.Ā
Nix crawls into bed and waits for Cecil to join him, pulling the covers up and gently winding a few fingers through his hair. Drunk Cecil allows him to touch his hair, to massage his scalp, to take his braids out.Ā
āThere we are.ā He whispers, brushing his lips over his forehead.Ā
He pushes back the urgency to pull away at Cecilās comment about making him feel safe. The words somehow wrap around his ribcage and tug violently. But itās something to worry about tomorrow when Cecil will deny any of this happened in the morning.Ā
As soon as Nix crawls into bed, Cecil joins him, arms wrapping around his middle instantly and anchoring himself to someone else. Nix doesnāt give off warmth like other people seem to, heās noticed that. Itās weird, he thinks heās got a circulation problem. As if to check, he presses his ear against his chest, listens to the slow thump of his heart. Nothing out of the ordinary there, at least. Like a baby animal, he clings and moves impossibly closer as he feels fingers threading through his long hair.
If he were a cat, heās sure he would be purring.
Closing his eyes, he relaxes into the sensation of someone stroking his locks, of a gentle brush of lips against his forehead. Nobody has ever been this soft with him his whole life. Maybe a mother, when he was a babe but, that time is long past. He doesnāt remember her, and he doubts she does him. Does she know she left her only son with a monster? Does she care? Cecil tries not to dwell on it, grounding himself in Nix. His smell, how his muscle moves under his skin as he stretches and turns, the rhythmic thump of his strong heart.
Cecil falls asleep to that noise.
/ / / / /Ā
Cecil dreams of him, and Nix. Itās nothing too intimate, thank god, just them on a warm summers day in a meadow. Laid in the grass, holding each other, scared to let go. He knows itās fear that's keeping them there. But, of what? It starts to rain, and he swears he sees the other's eyesĀ turn lilac before he -
Wakes up.
Eyes open, Cecil blinks. This isnāt his bed, no itās - Nixās. Whoās still asleep above him, and heās so close he can count his eyelashes. He can even see soft freckles that dance on his cheeks and the bridge of his nose. Itās not sunny yet, so they havenāt properly come out.
Oh god. Heās here, with Nix. Gorgeous Nix,Ā tempestuous Nix who has only ever protected him or fought with him. Theyāre like an old married couple in many respects but - here. In his bed? Itās frightening. Nix would never...with him, anyways. Cecil was drunk this - he was being nice.Ā He feels pathetic, and the emotion wells in his chest and his eyes.
Slowly, he climbs out of the bed.
