I seriously have no idea if anyone else has ever thought of this before, but it's really been coming to me since rewatching this show from the beginning-
There's something really disturbing about the fact that Grimtrix has this all-seeing crystal ball on his staff that he can use to spy on anyone anywhere anytime AND he shares Cedric's resentment towards royals mistreating royal sorcerers...
Which makes me wonder if ever since the beginning of the show, or even BEFORE the beginning of the show, Grimtrix has just been spying on Cedric ALL THIS TIME! 😱
That Grimtrix doesn't just suspect that Cedric is resentful and wants to rule Enchancia- HE KNOWS that Cedric is resentful and wants to rule Enchancia...from STALKING him!
If that doesn't make Grimtrix creepy as hell, I don't know what does!
RM-Specific Thoughts! 🪄✨
I can already imagine Sofia using her power to transform into any animals she sees with the amulet a lot in RM since we have lots of new animal friends! I can especially see her becoming a puppercorn like Pepper at some point! 🐶🦄
Since Cedric meant to just put Wormwood's picture and not the actual Wormwood into an enchanted painting, I am curious what the spell incantation for that specific enchanted painting trick is- since I already suspect we'll probably be doing a lot more enchanted painting at Charmswell!
It would also just be fun to see Cedric in an enchanted painting too sometime! 🖌️✨
It's bad enough that even Wormwood made fun of Cedric like everyone else did in this show- I'm hoping Cedric's potential next familiar won't do that
I also wonder if Cedric will be able to understand and have conversations with his next familiar too... 🤔
I'm already thankful that Sofia won't be attending Hexley Hall to learn magic, not that she could since I think it's for non-royals only, but still I wonder if Hexley Hall will even be referenced anytime in RM, or if we will ever go back there again...
There is a very VERY tiny part of me that is paranoid that Cedric might try and take the Amulet of Avalor again in RM since that was his thing in this first show- but I don't think so. He's Cedric the Great now, I believe he is WAY past that, and he will instead do what he can to protect Sofia from others who might want the amulet for themselves- because again, I'm sure the amulet will be in danger of other villains and threats in this next chapter!
"Camp Wilderwood" (Abridged)
The main takeaway I have from this episode is how fun the "Summer Camp Blues" musical number is! I love the drawing-like illustrations that accompany James' song of how terrible camp is for him and wanting to go home 🖼️🖍️
Also, I wonder what Roland and Miranda ended up doing while their children were at camp? I bet they had some nice much-needed alone time together whatever they did!

I haven't thought of this yet since I think we are going to spend the majority of the series at Charmswell and maybe probably not see summer vacation, but if there is ever summer vacation in RM, will there be magic camps? (how ironic since Wendell was sent to Wilderwood so he couldn't use his magic)
"Royal Vacation" (Abridged)
It's honestly kinda crazy how Baileywick is hardly in this season at all! Cedric is only in 4 episodes, and that's already a tragedy in itself- but Baileywick is only in 2! Or only speaks in 2 anyway! "Cool Hand Fluke" and here! That's crazy!
Baileywick also doesn't even accompany the royal family on their trip to the rainforest either! That feels like a first!
But I absolutely love when Amber pretended to be Baileywick during the family's "who am I?" game in the cave! For real, he is totally her favorite person in the castle like Cedric is Sofia's favorite person in the castle! Yeah, even Sofia does her own Cedric impression at the beginning of this episode too! It's all so adorable!!

"One for the Books" (Abridged)
As someone who's definitely had experience being embarrassed to ask for help when I need it (especially in school), this episode definitely hits home and has a really great lesson of it's perfectly okay to ask for help, whether you're the smartest student in school or even if you're the teacher! 😅
RM-Specific Thoughts! 🪄✨
I am not only curious about what the teachers at Charmswell will be like personality-wise and what they'll teach, but also what kinds of creatures they'll be too! I take it not all of the teachers will be human- maybe we'll get another faun teacher like Professor Pecullian! And heck, Miss Nettle is already a fairy! But I picture perhaps other fantastical creatures might be teachers at this school as well! I'm excited to find out!! 👀
I am also very curious about Charmswell's library! 📚 I bet it not only has books on enchanted gardening and what it takes to be a royal, but loads of spell books and books on magical objects too! I wonder if it even a restricted section…lots of magic schools have those, but maybe Charmswell does or doesn't? We'll see!
First day of school episodes are some of my favorite episodes in shows! So considering how fun this first day of school episode is, I'm totally excited to see how the first day of Charmswell plays out! 😄
"The Princess Prodigy" (Abridged)
The way I see it, Baron Von Rocha was never a talented musician whatsoever, considering he has zero musical talent at the end once the several music talents he stole are returned to its rightful owners
He just wanted the talent for music without the effort of working up to that talent naturally because he isn't a natural at music like Vivian is and didn't want to selflessly put up that effort- needless to say, a rotten trick on his part!
RM-Specific Thoughts! 🪄✨
Since the Junior Knights Academy was Royal Prep's main rival for competitions, I am curious who Charmswell's rival school(s) will be if they have one or two...I mean, they will probably need some for games or flying derby races!
I am curious where or from whom Zane learned magical music from since he'll be our magical musician in RM! I already take it he's a natural! But as long as he never learned it from Baron Von Rocha, we're cool!
I am also curious if Zane is part of this band of magical musicians at Charmswell and what their instruments will be... ✨🎶
I find it so ironic that Baron Von Rocha is on the bad side who has a bird familiar on the good side, while Cedric gets to the good side and ultimately has a bird familiar on the bad side- it almost makes me wonder if Piccolo could become Cedric's next familiar if Piccolo is in need of a new master and if Cedric wants a different bird, but idk that seems almost too specific...
The great thing about setting up Princess Charlotte and Morris the goblin to become friends is that to me, both of them seemed pretty lonely in their separate lives based on them each sharing what they love the most as they start to talk to each other and bond
It's pretty satisfying to watch them put their differences aside and become friends so that way they both aren't lonely anymore 😊

Who knows if the amulet will send Sofia to help other princesses connected to it in RM? I wouldn't expect it to happen anytime soon because again, Sofia should absolutely get settled at Charmswell first! But I personally loved it when Sofia got sent to help another princess in need since that showed just how far she had come as a princess! 💜
I take it curses will come to play somehow and sometime in RM too- whether from the amulet or otherwise
I am VERY CURIOUS if Morris the goblin just so happened to have anything from the kingdoms we will learn more about in RM in his collection of royal things...like, maybe he had something from Gloomshire somewhere in his house! That would be cool!
"The Tale of the Noble Knight" (Abridged)
God, next to that damn Wishing Well, I would say Sir Oliver is up there as one of Sofia the First's creepiest characters imo 😬
He's not only a selfish and conceited fraud, but the way he treats Sofia when she assumes he's the noble knight and tries to help him out- discrediting her own heroism and cleverness, lifting her up and throwing her around when she isn't prepared for it and doesn't need it, and even getting way too close to her than necessary at times- it's pretty cringe...
Sir Jaxon on the other hand is a smooth, chill dude- he's cool 😎👍

I bet Sofia will still be a master at riddles should they come up in RM because I'm sure they will sometime!
It would also be cool if we got to see knights again in an episode too!
"Cauldronation Day" (Abridged)
I would argue Sofia wasn't the only character doing some growing up and taking on bigger challenges at this point in the show as far as Lucinda going from little witch to midnight witch is concerned! 🦉🌕

Since Sofia knows a lot about witches from being friends with Lucinda, and was even taught a witch spell from Lucinda's friends in this episode, I wonder if that knowledge will come in handy sometime in RM...
Even if we don't see Lucinda again in RM or anytime soon at the very least, it would even be awesome to involve witches again sometime since they're magic users too!
"The Bamboo Kite" (Abridged)
It's been a very LONG time since I last watched this episode (in fact, I want to say I only saw it once for whatever reason), so I completely forgot that the lesson of it was that there is room for both old and new ways and traditions for things- AND I REALLY LOVE THAT! 🤩
Just because there is progress in the world, that doesn't mean we have to abandon anything from previous generations that might seem useless! I might not have been born in the 80s, but I LOVE 80s music!
I also forgot Wu Chang had a big role in this episode too, that was also awesome to see! 👏
RM-Specific Thoughts! 🪄✨
I believe I've already said this before, I'm not entirely sure though, but I would love to visit the kingdoms where Sofia's new friends are from, learn about their traditions, and see Sofia participate in them!
I'm also still curious about those kingdoms' and other kingdoms' royal sorcerers if they have any and what they're like! Perhaps even what their relationships with the kings and queens are like too...
I gotta be honest- this is probably my least favorite special in the show- BUT!!!! That doesn’t mean I think it’s bad- it’s genuinely really great!! 😄
It’s mainly because I feel that, except for Sofia, this episode works out all for nothing for everyone else- especially Amber… 🙁
I remember watching this special when it first came out, and hoping that Amber would STAY in the know about the amulet’s secrets and still keep that between her and Sofia by the end of this…and for that to just be a thing for the rest of the series…
Only to be disappointed when Amber’s memories of literally everything she went through in this special suddenly get wiped away! 😫
Somehow I feel like I distinctly remember shouting NOOOOOOO at the screen when that happened…and if I didn’t scream it, I was definitely thinking it!
But thankfully, we were just going to have to wait until “The Mystic Isles” in the final season for Amber to learn the truth about Sofia’s amulet for real 🤗
Yeah, “The Mystic Isles” I can already tell you I believe definitely makes up for the plot of this special on Amber’s side of things and her forgetting what happens by the end of it
I definitely love that special a lot better for that reason! Because Amber wants her own magical amulet even then like she does here! ✨✨
Basically, the main disappointing thing if anything is that Amber goes through all of this amazing character development in these 45 minutes, only for it all to instantly go away just like that at the snap of fingers- even if it was for the greater good- and by the end, it’s like she learned nothing! 😔
But yeah, for what it is, “The Curse of Princess Ivy” is still QUITE an EPIC adventure in its own right! 🤩
Princess Ivy is definitely one of the most dangerous villains in Sofia the First- yes, I know she’ll miraculously turn over a new leaf in her returning episode- but here? Yeaah, she is PRETTY dangerous… 😰
So I’ve mentioned here and there in some of my previous rewatch posts that there are these small moments leading up to this episode where Amber innocently points out or acknowledges that she’s noticed Sofia talking to her animal friends…
And that all comes to a head at the beginning of this special! We legit begin with Amber watching Sofia spend time with Clover, Mia, Robin, and Whatnaught and talk to them like Sofia would on any other day! Only now, Amber seriously wants to get to the bottom of it… 🫢
But for real, props to Amber for actually noticing Sofia talk to animals like she would talk to any human while everyone else in the castle is none the wiser! Because someone had to notice that eventually, right?
It has always sorta confused me why Sofia felt she had to keep the powers of her amulet a secret from her friends and family. I mean, it’s not like she had to swear an oath to keep its powers a secret or anything (not to Roland or even the Disney Princesses!), she only had to promise to never take it off! But I feel like Sofia did keep the amulet's powers a secret for a lot of different reasons...
For one, it was hard enough being the new princess at Royal Prep and she probably didn’t want to be seen as weird for having these powers to anyone else… 🙃
Secondly, I think becoming a princess did make Sofia feel lonely and she believed she didn’t really have anyone to talk to about what’s bothering her. And on top of that, as I’ve said before, I think Sofia felt like she couldn't talk to her mother like she used to and wanted her mother to be happy in her new marriage and Sofia wanted to put that over her own happiness and wellbeing 😢
But also, maybe there was this part of Sofia that was just paranoid that if she did tell anyone else about the amulet’s secrets, she would suddenly lose having the abilities of her amulet and never get them back again 🫣
Lastly, I think there was also that part of Sofia that wanted to be special because she didn’t feel enough like a princess to be as much of a princess as anyone else, and so by having the amulet, Sofia does feel like she’s special and like she can make through as a princess 😁
But since this special is at a point where Sofia and her family are a lot closer since they were all brought together, Sofia shouldn’t keep the secret of her amulet a secret anymore, right?
I’m honestly surprised Sofia didn’t think to share that the amulet gives her the ability to turn into a mermaid to Amber- since Amber loves mermaids just as much as Sofia does! Maybe Sofia was going to share that, but it had to be cut for the sake of time… 🧜♀️
But also, I mean, she could’ve anyway since Sofia didn’t manage to tell Amber absolutely everything she knew about the amulet like its decree of “with each deed performed…” until it was too late, until after Ivy was summoned!
So on the one hand, I don’t blame Sofia for being angry at Amber for stealing her amulet, she had every right to be- but on the other hand, because Sofia didn’t tell Amber everything about the amulet, Amber uses the amulet in a reckless and ignorant way when she does steal it... 🫤
LOL I get the sense Amber likes Jasmine more than Mulan since Amber only brings up her and Sofia meeting Jasmine in Tangu
I will give Amber this FOR SURE- despite her stealing the amulet to use for herself and ending up summoning Ivy, she does keep her promise to keep the secret of Sofia’s amulet a secret through and through and doesn’t tell anyone else 👏
She could’ve told someone, especially Roland, what it could do- but she doesn’t. That is Amber being a very good sister. 👏👏
Really, the only bad thing Amber did was not respecting the fact that the Amulet of Avalor does belong to Sofia and that it chose Sofia to be its keeper. For a very good reason that we will find out much later on, but here is where we pretty much learn that there are consequences if the wrongful owner of the amulet ends up using the amulet for themselves! 😬
But yeah, sharing a pretty big secret that you didn’t really want to share is not just being a good sharer, but a great sharer if you ask me, Amber… 😤
And now I wonder if Sofia was afraid Amber was going to spill the secret of the amulet the second Amber left Sofia’s bedroom…but yeah, thankfully she didn’t and never does! 😮💨
I totally forgot that Roland and Miranda’s anniversary (it’s obviously their wedding anniversary, right?) was the backdrop of this special! Now THAT right there is a telltale sign that time passes in this show! I LOVE IT!!!! 😱
So since Roland and Miranda celebrate their anniversary, have they been married for one year or for 2 years as of this special? 🤔
Man, those large spoonfuls of jiggly wiggly pudding looked way more delicious than they should’ve been! Cuz now you’re making ME want to have a bite! 🤤
Yeah, I might have said this already, but I'll say it again- sometimes it does frustrate me to no end that Roland had absolutely no idea of the amulet’s capabilities before giving it away to Sofia 😣
“You know who” seated next to “you don’t want to know who” idk what exactly the drama was there, but I’m intrigued! Please tell me more, Baileywick! 👀
I do wonder if Amber finds being the future queen of Enchancia much more valuable than what any magical jewel could offer her…because that in itself is VERY special for Amber and something she should use to her full potential and not take for granted 👸🏼✨
Considering Amber legit seems to get zero sleep during her and Sofia’s sister sleepover over whether or not to take the amulet from Sofia, shouldn’t there be some grace for Amber anytime she complains in this special? Because who wouldn’t complain after barely getting any sleep? 🥱😩
And still I question how and why Sofia even sleeps with the amulet on when sleeping with a necklace on is a choking hazard anyway, but yeah I don’t want to be picky...
Still and all, Sofia and Amber having a sisters sleepover just the two of them is sooooo sweet regardless of motives!! 😍
But I also can't wait for potential royal sleepovers involving Sofia's new friends too! 🪄✨
In fact, I've already got the song down! "We're at a magic sleepover! A magic sleepover! A magic sleepover!" 🎶🎶 You know, if Sofia wants to pass that tradition of her, Ruby, and Jade's down and all!
It’s crazy to think that back when this episode first aired, Rapunzel was one of the newer Disney Princesses- so I get why Amber wanted her specifically, but also, I love Rapunzel too! She is definitely without a doubt one of my all-time favorites! ☀️🌼😍
But yeah, does it sound completely obvious when I say that Ivy looks and kinda acts like Cruella de Vil, but as a princess? I mean…the black and white hair for starters! But also…hundreds of butterflies! That’s kinda like having one hundred and one dalmatians, right? 🖤🤍🩶🦋
It would be nice if Amber did have an older princess friend like Ivy that wasn’t cruel like Ivy because even before Ivy revealed her true intentions, it looked like Amber was having fun hanging out with Ivy, and I like the idea of Amber having someone older with more experience giving her guidance since she is the oldest of the three Enchancian young royals and as crown princess I believe she could benefit from that!
Sofia doesn't have to be the only young princess in need of guidance, you know!
It’s seriously too bad Roland and Miranda most probably don’t even remember the anniversary breakfast they had just the two of them in the observatory because THAT WAS REALLY LOVELY FOR THEMMMMM 😭😭
You know things are serious and Sofia is not playing around when she doesn’t take the time to slide down the banister like she usually does 🫢
I mean, to be fair, the bainsters were being decorated for her parents’ anniversary, but the entire banister wasn’t all decorated yet!
Also, I’m impressed Sofia found Amber so fast! Amber and Ivy could’ve been anywhere, they happened to be at the docks, and that’s where Sofia finds them!
“And [the Disney Princesses] don’t stick around so you can be best friends.” Damn, Sofia, how hardcore! And yet, why do I feel like this is another great example of how Sofia the First defies and calls out superficialness? 😯
It’s too bad we never learned the name of Ivy’s kingdom where she grew up, much less the name of her older sister she resented so much- but I’m sure there’s fanfics all about that!
There’s something overly convenient about the fact that Ivy’s dragonflies just so happen to have the power to erase someone’s memories. And specifically the power to have someone not remember anything after waking up. Like, really? She just so happens to have that? 😑
But yeah, even Ivy’s butterflies and dragonflies are as creepy as their master! 😬
Okay but how delightfully ironic is it that Cedric happened to also be playing with cards like Sofia and Amber did when they had their sleepover?
Wait a minute, was Cedric trying to imitate Boswell with that whole “is this your card?” thing he did with Wormwood?? Huh, maybe Cedric did spy on Bowsell’s show from afar when Boswell visited Enchancia castle that day after all… 🤔
But yeah, Cedric, you’re a much better sorcerer than magician, and way better than Boswell in every way- that’s a fact 👏
“Mr. Cedric, we need your help.” “You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t, would you?” Yeah! SEE! People only ever come to Cedric when they WANT something from him and nothing more! Like, come on, that has got to suck… 😔
Personally I’m always more mad at the snooping butterflies of Ivy’s happening to be right outside Cedric’s window rather than Cedric saying out loud what the only way to destroy the amulet is- because those butterflies are pests and plus how else were we the audience supposed to learn that information?
Okay, but the way I see it- after Amber, Cedric, and Sofia discover Ivy’s butterflies snooping in on them, both Cedric and Sofia kinda work together to get Amber motivated to go after Princess Ivy without even trying- like, they’re that in-sync with each other without even realizing it, and idk I just love that ☺️
“You got us into this mess, Amber. And you’re the only one who can get us out.” “I’m afraid she’s right.” Like…great teamwork, you two!
“Who do you think I am?” “Oh, let’s see. The person who caused this problem in the first place?” OOOOOOOHHOOHOOHOO BURN!!!! That is one nice burn you made at Amber, Cedric! And this is before we meet the dragons! 🤭
Also good on Cedric for being the one to contribute the idea to break Amber’s curse even if it didn’t end up being the way to break it- since he didn’t help Sofia figure out what could break her curse the first time she got one 👏
But yeah…I can only imagine just how terrified and full of regret Elena must’ve been in while stuck in the amulet during this episode- she wanted to teach Amber a lesson, only to almost be destroyed for real as a real 😰
And even Sofia- poor poor Sofia, I can’t even imagine just how close she was to having countless heart attacks in this special… 😓
Like, my god, imagine if the amulet could be destroyed by any means and it was already destroyed by the time Sofia and Amber had even reached Cedric’s workshop to ask for his help! 😱
But hey, even if Ivy had succeeded in destroying the amulet- I have always wondered if she would’ve ended up being destroyed along with it since the amulet’s magic is what brought Ivy out of her island prison in the first place…but since Ivy wasn’t born from the amulet, probably not? 😕
Yeaaah, this is just me being me, but how dare Ivy say “upward and onward” out of context! Like...yeah, guys, I’m that serious about Onward- I can’t take that word seriously anymore without thinking of my favorite film! It's THAT special to me! ❤️🔥✨
Okay, but I thought the Enchancia castle had several working spare coaches? Why were the characters acting like Ivy took the only one they had when they most definitely have always had more than just one coach to use in other episodes? 🤨
MY GOD, HOW FUNNY IS IT that we have Sofia driving a coach in this special, having never driven one before and with some slight uncertainty doing it, when we’re going to have Sofia without any hesitation whatsoever taking the reins of a coach when she takes herself and her family to Charmswell in the series premiere of RM!!!!
Yeah, that is HILARIOUS and TOTALLY why I love that moment in this special now! 😂😂
But yeah, as far as this special goes, I wonder if Sofia deciding to be the one to drive the coach is some sort of allegory to a kid deciding to drive a car even though they’re underage in an adventure-like scenario in the movies lol
I can never decide whether it’s impressive or scary when Sofia is so mad at Amber because Sofia is usually very forgiving and all about second chances, but this special is literally the maddest Sofia ever got at Amber 😯😧
I also often debate whether Ivy had to sit through a performance from Smoke, Wings, and Fire or if she did something threatening to make them not sing so she could get to Everburn already- neither Ivy or the dragons really say...
But since it takes Everburn so long to follow through with burning the amulet, it’s always hard to tell just how far ahead Ivy was from Sofia, Amber, and Cedric...
It would be cool to have Sofia, Amber, and Cedric as an adventure trio again, for real and for them all to remember in RM sometime! Because they are a fun and interesting trio all right! 🤩

The good thing about confronting Ivy at this point is that she hadn’t met Cedric yet, just Amber and Sofia- so that in itself was a good reason to bring Cedric along! Even if it meant he had to be the one attacked by memory erasing dragonflies...
Man, I bet Sofia wished she had her wand and knew the floating spell “Flotissimo” while she and Amber were stuck in that hole! If Sofia ever gets into that kind of situation again in RM, it’s great she’ll know just what to do! 😉
I also wonder if Cedric would’ve even cast “Flotissimo” had he had his wand on him… 🤔
But instead WE GET RAPUNZEL!!! 😄🙌
It’s so great that Rapunzel shows up legit when Amber and Sofia least expect it! Amber wanted Rapunzel and when she didn’t get Rapunzel, it’s like Amber thought Rapunzel would never show up at all 😵
But that right there is Elena showing Amber some mercy! Since she wasn’t burned to a crisp and as someone who wanted to help her family restore their place as the rulers of Avalor, helping Sofia and Amber help their family was the least she could do! 💞
The funny thing is, Tangled was the last Disney Princess film I had rewatched before I began rewatching this show in anticipation for RM- well, actually, I was watching one of my favorite youtubers rewatch the film because he hadn’t seen it in years- that was fun! 🤩
So I was all, ‘hey, Raps, long time no see!’ 👋
And aaaaaaaah it’s SO COOL that Sofia and Amber had the honor of getting to climb Rapunzel’s long, golden hair! 😍

It is funny that of all the Disney Princesses that show up to help Sofia in this series, Rapunzel admits she doesn’t know how to help in the specific scenario Sofia has- and I wanna say it’s because Rapunzel was the newest Disney Princess at the time and needed more time to gain that confident wisdom like the others or something?
But yeah, the second Amber explains from her side of things what has happened, then Rapunzel is able to help!
If it weren’t for Rapunzel and befriending the dragons of the Blazing Palisades, I wonder how Sofia, Amber, and Cedric would’ve returned to Enchancia since their rickety spare coach broke apart the second they landed
“If you truly love your sister, you’ll know what to do when the time comes.” Damn, Rapunzel giving Amber advice on how to make things right with her sister sure hits a whole lot deeper if you consider the events of Tangled: The Series from beginning to end- even if it wasn’t intentional! 😲
I can’t wait to see Rapunzel again in RM!!
So now I have rewatched all of the Sofia the First episodes involving the Disney Princesses that will be appearing in the first season of RM! Hooray!!!!!! 🙌
Yes, even Elena since despite an abridged post for “Elena and the Secret of Avalor” at the moment as of writing this post, I have rewatched that special too! ✅
I am very curious who else will meet the Disney Princesses in RM with Sofia if in any case it won’t just be Sofia alone that meets them again! But I trust that Sofia will have to be there since her amulet is what connects and summons the Disney Princesses to her in the first place- whether Elena is stuck in the amulet or not 👀
So is this the first episode in this first show with the redesigned throne room? With the large flying horse statues and all of the royal thrones on different levels and not just all on one level? I wanna say it is…why did I think it was first redesigned in the final season? 🤔
Man, I think poor Cedric is the one hit by Ivy’s dragonflies the most…I hope he didn’t have serious memory problems after this episode…it’s not like we want him to get dementia or anything! I certainly don’t! 😟
But even at the expense of them both forgetting the events of this special, Cedric and then Amber especially getting in front of Sofia so that they were hit by dragonflies instead of Sofia just to protect her and her amulet was incredibly noble on both of their parts 🥹
Because Ivy was really DANGEROUSLY close to overtaking Enchancia for good and that would’ve been that! 😱
I’m sad that Amber doesn’t remember Rapunzel as a result because Amber really did want to meet Rapunzel and again, Rapunzel did help Amber out in a way that deserved to be remembered for the sake of Amber progressing in her character development 😞
I know the royal family asks what happened and Sofia goes, it’s a long story, but does she ever tell that long story? I’m not so sure she did… 🤷🏻♀️
So if I got this straight- in the end, Sofia, her animal friends, Ivy, and the Blazing Palisades dragons are the only ones who remember anything that happened in this special
But at least Sofia knows and will remember forever from this experience that she can always count on Amber to pull things through for her, their sisterly relationship, and for their family- even if Amber doesn’t remember anything or know that herself 😉

When I was younger (probably 12 years old since that's when Sofia the First came out and I began watching it), I wanted Sofia's amulet as part of my Sofia merch collection (man, that sounded less Cedric-y in my head lol)
Of course I mean the Disney Store brand Amulet of Avalor that's all plastic that anyone could buy!
Mind you, I'm talking about the purple amulet. But I'm glad I never did end up begging my parents to get it for me because-
A. Being a closeted Sofia fan at that time, you wouldn't have caught me wearing it at school
B. I'm not a big jewelry person anyway (they're a distraction), and so I probably would have never worn it...
C. And this is the most important reason! I would have felt bad having the shade of amulet that had a princess trapped inside of it! And after this episode aired and Sofia's amulet turns pink from freeing Elena, the amulets in the Disney Store became pink too!
So the point is- I managed to save some money from realizing what really mattered to me 😇
But who knows? Now that I'm older and don't care as much what other people think, since Sofia's amulet is still pink when she's a teenager and attends Elena's coronation, and the Disney Store will most probably sell amulets again for RM merch- maybe I'll finally get one... 👀

Since magic was banished from Avalor while Shuriki was in power, I wonder if there are other places in the EverRealm that have banned magic...because that could be an obstacle at one point or another if we're about to give magic a bigger focus in this next chapter...
I was right that bending and breaking a wand in half does have its consequences! In this case, it does for Shuriki! So I wonder if having a wand broken in half is going to happen to a character in RM...

I'm glad it was Miss Nettle all by herself that got to sing the one and only song in this episode since Olaf gets to sing in Frozen and Frozen II and will most definitely sing in the third and fourth Frozen movies...
I say this because Miss Nettle is a character we only saw four times in this first show, and we'll have to see if she will sing in her appearances in RM! But yeah, if you're gonna give the song to anybody- yes, give it to the character that doesn't have as much screentime!
Bonus points for the book in the secret library being called The Tale of Miss Nettle, too! That's another good reason! For this is Miss Nettle's story! Her story, her song! 📖

I hope and I would expect that Miss Nettle would have plenty of or at least a vase of Nettledrops in her office/classroom at Charmswell or all over Charmswell since they are her greatest creation and they can grow just about anywhere! Who knows if Olaf could return in RM? Or if Anna and/or Elsa will ever make their debut in RM? But they weren't announced as part of the princesses showing up in Season 1 and as long as they are still making cash grabbing Frozen movies, I'm not sure they can appear in the show anytime soon!
So far, while it doesn't seem that way and I'm glad about that, I'm hoping RM won't be an excuse to pump up Frozen's ego even more because it's already way too overly popular as it is- it doesn't any more marketing! I said what I said.

Okay......what is with people like Grand Mum keeping secrets from Roland specifically? Like, what did he ever do to deserve to have things kept from him like this? 🤨 And I ask this because this isn't the first and only time this happens in this show...
Like, why shouldn't Roland be told his mother wants to ride a flying horse when his own children do that too? And why shouldn't he be told that it's the oldest child and not the oldest son that gets to rule Enchancia?
I also get the sense that even Grand Mum knew the whole story of the amulet, including the fact that a princess was trapped inside it, and for whatever reason refused to tell Roland that too...
The only logical reason I can think of is because Roland tends to overreact and not take things well- still, is it so wrong to feel bad for Roland here? Because either way, I always felt like this was wrong...

I already have this feeling that like Minimus, there will be a student at Charmswell who has parents who don't approve of them doing magic or are at least overprotective of them doing magic- like how Minimus' parents, especially his mother, got overprotective of Minimus flying in an active way. Professor Zacharias Fleeber (I actually had to look up his name in order to spell it right lol) is not only a fun name, but a fun dude too!

I don't believe Miranda's birthday is ever celebrated in this first show, so it would be great if we could finally celebrate hers in RM!
I love that Merida's advice to Sofia didn't require a song from her (since Pixar films aren't sing out of nowhere kinds of films, plus Merida is more of an inner voice singer anyway!), AND that it calls back to her final words of wisdom from her film-
"Our fate lives within us. You only have to be BRAVE enough to see it."
I mean, does that totally fit with Sofia's situation or what? 👏

I am already expecting at this point that Sofia will be more open about her amulet's powers to her friends and family in this next chapter...
From the moment Merida was summoned to guide Sofia, I have always firmly believed that because Pixar is under the Disney umbrella, ANYTHING PIXAR is canon to the EverRealm. Meaning I hope hope HOPE that other Pixar properties will be referenced in RM! Especially since a lot more stories with magical elements from Pixar have come out since "the first" Sofia the First concluded!
For example, there's Coco- the marigold petals, Héctor's guitar, and alebrijes!
There's also my personal favorite, Onward- it has SO MUCH MAGIC in it, and SO MUCH POTENTIAL for cameos, AND it would be an absolute miracle if somehow Ian was summoned from Sofia's amulet, and he gave her advice on something! Perhaps on something sibling-related since Sofia has siblings and Onward is a sibling story! Yes, I know Sofia is a princess story and Ian is not a princess! But he is a wizard! And since Sofia is going to a school for magic, wouldn't it be AWWWSOME if her amulet could summon magic users too?? Think about it!
Other examples of Pixar films with magical elements I can think of include Luca and Alberto being able to shapeshift from seafolk to humans and Mei turning into a giant red panda!
Yeah, if any of these got referenced somehow in RM, I would be soooooooo happy! 😱
"The Princess Ballet" (Abridged)
There's nothing I love in this episode more than everyone, even fellow perfectionist Amber, and not only Sofia, ENCOURAGING Kari nonstop rather than criticize her as she's learning ballet for the first time 🩰
And even if Kari isn't perfect at it, the fact that she coins her own unique ballet dance step that everyone admires sure makes ballet something she's an ace at anyway! And that's awesome! 👏

I have this hunch that the contest Sofia won to meet Merlin was something sorcery-related...and if it was, again, Sofia was made to go to magic school post-Royal Prep! 👏
Practically before any major details on RM beyond the plot teaser were shared, I had assumed that perhaps Merlin would be the headmaster of Charmswell and that perhaps HE founded it! His comments on not having many visitors to his home or much fun in years made me think- huh, maybe he founded the school as his way of bringing excitement back into his life!
But I mean, come on! If the one and only Merlin from The Sword and the Stone- a magic user and most certainly not a princess can appear in the EverRealm, I don't see why any other magic users from other Disney properties who aren't princesses couldn't appear also!
Whatever Merlin is up to in RM, yes, absolutely, I hope we see him again sometime too!
Oh, how I can't wait to see Sofia and her new friends potentially using their own wands against a powerful enemy like Cedric, Merlin, and Calista did against Morgana here! 😲

I'm...pretty neutral about this one...to the point where I wanna say both Zooey and Amber were in the wrong for their actions in this episode...
Sofia was the really only one trying to make things right for the adventure club, likely out of her own experiences of being new and feeling left out of things and wanting neither her sister or her so-called new friend to go through that either- but in their own ways, Amber and Zooey care more about their egos than being nice which is sucky 😑

When Zooey mentioned once facing a minotaur, I had to ask myself- will we see a minotaur in RM? And if we do, will it be in a labyrinth?
It'll be interesting to see what introducing a potential new student at Charmswell to Charmswell would be like...after the series premiere of course!
I'm almost afraid to think because maybe RM wouldn't go THAT far, but I mean, maybe there will be some sort of dueling club or class or something- but what I'm wondering is, will there be an instance of two students not getting along and using magic to fight each other? 😰 So far I'm thinking no because this is a show for a preschool audience, but also that would just be angsty anyway...
"Sofia in Elvenmoor" (Abridged)
It's been AGES since I last watched this episode, but I kinda wish it was a double-length episode! 🪷🫧🍄
There was so much to explore and do in Elvenmoor that I wonder if the stakes would've been higher and less rushed if Sofia and Clover spent more time there doing stuff with Elfanso and THEN by the end of the 22 minute part 1, that's when they realize the portal door was in danger of disappearing forever! 🫢
But also, it would've been nice to have an ending scene with Sofia and Clover briefly reuniting with Elfanso when they return to show Elvenmoor to Roland once the tree is saved, and then they all have their picnic together 🤗

So......will we ever go back to Elvenmoor in RM? I know, it sounds like a lot to ask, but we only ever went to this place once in "the first" show and never went back! The tree that connects Elvenmoor to Enchancia was saved after all!
And if we're not going back to Elvenmoor, as someone who has really grown to LOVE elves and elf characters pretty much since declaring Onward as my favorite Pixar film and becoming a Quest Master, it would be great to meet some elves in RM anyway!

It’s perfectly justified but also unfortunate that Cedric decided not come back to Merroway Cove with the royal family when the lesson of this episode is that everyone has their role to play no matter how big or small and that no one is better at being a leader or is more important or special than anyone else! 😇
Sofia the First has a GREAT ensemble cast, and EVERYONE in that ensemble cast plays important parts in Sofia’s story! 💜

I would say Vivian had it easier when dealing with the wee sprites than Sofia did because Vivian had a friend like Sofia who had dealt with wee sprites before and knew exactly how to get them out of Vivian's new castle home...
Plus Vivian doesn't have a magical amulet that can curse her for doing bad deeds and wasn't stuck being small like Sofia either! 😅

If there's anything we haven't seen at Charmswell yet, it's an enchanted garden like the one Vivian has at her new castle! I mean, if enchanted gardening can be a class at this school, I don't see why they couldn't have an enchanted garden along with it! ✨🌷🪻✨
I'm also very excited to see Charmswell's music room too because I'm sure it has that too! And not JUST a music room, but a MAGICAL music room! ✨🎶
"Dads and Daughters Day" (Abridged)
Yeaaaaah, Sofia would've had a 100% fun time on the dads and daughters field trip to the Enchanted Animal Park from beginning to end HAD HILDY KEPT HER MOUTH SHUT 😑
Hildy's comments about Sofia and Roland's father-daughter relationship are pretty much stuck in Sofia's head for the majority of the episode- that's literally the last thing Sofia deserved 😢
Meanwhile, I LOVE AMBER in this episode. She is SUCH a great sister, and she made Sofia feel included with her and Roland, AND called out Hildy TWICE 👏😄

I wonder if we'll get Mother's Day, Father's Day, or other holiday themed episodes in RM- either way, I'm very excited for any stories we can get no matter what the themes are! 🤩
Hybrid animals like puppercorns or dracokitties that we'll probably see regularly at Charmswell are really great to see when you consider hybrid animals are also heavily featured in this episode! It's awesome that Sofia the First has always had them around! 😍😍😍
I'm very curious if Charmswell will have any fun field trips like the one the kings and princesses took in this episode! Getting out in the field, so to speak, to practice magic would be great for the young royals to really master what they'll learn in class! 👀

So is Tom Kane technically the first Onward VA to pass away? 😢
One of his very last projects as a VA before he retired was narrating some of the trailers and tv spots for Onward- and...I'd be lying if I said his delightful narration didn't add to my growing excitement towards seeing this fantastical adventure film that little did I know would become my favorite film in the whole entire world and the reason I made this blog... ❤️🔥✨
But even before that, I will never forget Tom Kane as the voice of the talking dog, HIM, and most especially Professor Utonium in the original Powerpuff Girls- an animated series that has been in my life for as long as I can remember... 🩵🩷💚
In fact, the very first episode of Powerpuff Girls I remember watching on VHS when I was little was "Boogie Frights" and that's the one where the Professor gives his three girls a very touching lesson on bravery...
I always loved Tom Kane's delivery in this scene, and it's a scene I feel has always struck a chord with me for no reason other than it hits deep and it's a perfect example of positive fatherhood representation in animation. And Professor Utonium is definitely one of my favorite fathers in animation, without a doubt! 🥲
Magically transporting yourself into a painting- now THAT is what I call a very cool concept! 🖌️✨
It’s definitely one of those things I would LOVE to do if we were able to do it in our own world! I definitely love visiting a good ol’ art museum, but wouldn’t an art museum be even more exciting if we could magically jump into its paintings, too?
(*first-watch memory*) And to think, I thought at first based on the title that this episode was going to be about Royal Prep picture day or something- where instead of having their photos taken, every student has their portrait painted, and that’s their “school picture”
But yeah, that would’ve been going in an “every show does this kind of episode” direction had they gone that route! There are definitely a good number of shows that have a picture day episode! 📸
Still, that doesn’t mean that isn’t how schools in the EverRealm do picture day! I mean, it’s not like cameras are really a thing in the EverRealm, am I right? (*end of first-watch memory*)
But yay! We’re in art class again! Always my personal favorite subject when I was in school! 🎨
And we’re pretty much in it for the whole episode! Even better!
AND it’s an episode starring Sofia and Hildegard!
In terms of rewatching “the first” show from the beginning- YES, this is Hildy’s first major episode of the series!
She has appeared in other episodes, but this is her biggest role yet!
Hildy isn’t my favorite princess at Royal Prep, but one of my favorite things about her is when she gets vulnerable, and this episode has her be truly vulnerable for the first time! 🙌
So as I said, we begin this episode in art class, in which we have our two pink vs. blue fairies introducing enchanted painting to their students!
Yeah, what makes Flora and Merryweather going at it with each other so unique this time is that it’s not what should be pink or blue, but a matter of who gets to say what and when to their students, plus trying to best each other in their additions to their enchanted painting example 😆
You know, a part of me is really going to miss having the three fairies be Sofia’s teachers. I mean, yes, this show ended back in 2018, but still, we are heading to a new school and idk yet how pink vs. blue could be depicted there!
Maybe Sofia and her new friends being in Castle Merryweather will contribute to it somehow…we’ll have to see! 👀
I take it there’s no doubt enchanted painting will also be featured in RM! And perhaps featured in a more recurring way if we’re talking magic! 🪄✨
“Oh, Sofia, you don’t know?” Gee, I wonder whoever mockingly said that to Hildy before...
That’s the tragic thing about the concept of bullies- when someone is mean to someone else, that someone else can go down the path of becoming mean to protect themselves
That’s how I know Hildy is not an all around bad person, but it is sucky when she behaves like that 🙁
Because as Sofia will explain to Hildy later on in this episode, the way to be a bigger and better person is to be nice
I don’t suppose Hildy knew Sofia had met mermaids before, had she? I’m gonna go with no since know it all Hildy pretty much refused to give Sofia any room to say or do anything else while they made their enchanted painting of a mermaid cove 😑
Amber and James being partners in this episode is definitely a lot of fun since we get more of their classic twin bickering from it! 😂
I can’t remember, but is this episode the closest we ever get to technically visiting the kingdom of Galdiz? Because Galdiz is definitely mentioned here and there in the show, but I don’t think we ever go there for an episode except for in Amber and James’ enchanted painting!
It’s too bad we were never shown what Zandar and Lakshmi painted- it would’ve been interesting to cut to them inside their painting!
Also, Lakshmi is very underrated- sadly, I feel like we never really got to know her 😔
So does enchanted painting compared to regular painting make you paint things faster? I would think so since it’s magic ✨
But I’m telling you, the painter characters in this show are soooooo talented just because they’re able to paint things really accurately, really fast! 😲
Ha ha, how clever and sneaky of James to add last minute warthogs after Amber transported into the painting 😉
Okay, Hildy taking Sofia’s paintbrush away from her I thought was very pushy of her to do to Sofia since Hildy already had her own- I know it drives the plot, obviously, but still 😑
And yeah, as much as Hildy claimed she knew everything, she is clearly not the best student in sorcery class unlike Sofia, who would normally know the spells to get in and out of the paintings had Hildy given her the chance to listen for them
Huh, I wonder if that’s part of the reason Hildy was so snitchy towards Sofia and the others in "Scrambled Pets”- because she’s not the best at sorcery and doesn’t want anyone other than herself to know that 🤔
Btw after rewatching that disaster of an episode again, Hildy is much better to tolerate in this episode- especially in the third act 😅
On the bright side, Sofia and Hildy were never caught not listening to Flora’s instructions AND not being in their painting in the classroom- lucky them!
Somehow I misremembered that the dog already belonged to the old man and ran away from him- the man never had the dog, but wanted to have the dog 😵
But I guess it makes sense that the dog didn’t already belong to the old man since how would that dog have gotten all the way over to the painting it was in without an enchanted paintbrush?
I suppose the only way would’ve been if some students in the past had also accidentally magicked themselves into the paintings out in the hall and the dog had taken one of their enchanted paintbrushes
I hope any future enchanted painting classes at Royal Prep had the other students go into the hall paintings! Lots of paintings to choose from and it would really give those paintings the attention they deserve! 🤩
Also, the different art styles in this episode? *chef’s kiss*
Yeah, if there’s any episode in Sofia the First that really experiments with its animation and artstyle- it’s this one! And I love it!! I LOVE mixed media in animation!!! 😍
And seeing how truly AWESOME the animation in RM looks so far (honestly some of the best animation ever made in all of Sofia!), I’m very curious about if it will also take a mixed media approach sometime! Whether we go into enchanted paintings again or in some other context! 👀
Even though that old man does send Sofia and Hildy through a bunch of paintings to get the dog so that the two princesses can get the exit spell from him, there is something kindhearted about the fact that the old man never tried to steal either Sofia or Hildy’s magic paintbrushes when they first meet him or by the end once they do bring the dog back to him
I bet there’s a person or an animal in an enchanted painting somewhere (not necessarily at Royal Prep) that would give anything to have someone jump into their painting just so that they can take the paint jumper’s paintbrush and leave the painting themselves and end up causing all sorts of havoc! 😂
Just saying, since the old man knew the exit spell by heart, that could’ve been his intention, or even the bull’s later on, but thankfully it wasn’t! 😅
It’s fun and lucky that Sofia and Hildy got to learn additional enchanted painting tips from the old man that the other students didn’t get from paying attention to Flora 😄
Would it be wrong to say James and Amber end up having a bunch of Pumbaas as tea party guests in their painting? LOL the way Amber pours tea from the teapot into one of its mouths is a very funny image! 😂
Might just be the hairstyle, but doesn’t Sofia’s flying horse rider (or rather, Sofia’s passenger since Sofia took reins! Go Sof!) in the flying derby painting look a lot like an older Hugo?
Man, if Hildy knew all about flying derby races, she would’ve tried riding a flying horse by now, wouldn’t she? 🤨
I have to say though, all of Hildy’s fan tricks in this episode- since she certainly is talented at using it! -definitely makes up for her not doing fan fluttering during the fake princess test! 🪭
LOL cutting to Fauna out in the hall as Sofia and Hildy travel through the paintings is definitely a highlight in this episode! Those moments where she thinks she’s seeing things were funny- what did she think she was seeing anyway?
Like I said (I believe during the first time we were in art class at Royal Prep in “The Shy Princess”), I always found it amusing that Fauna wears glasses in this show! 😂
Sofia’s biological father, Birk, taught her how to sail, right? I can’t remember if that’s a genuine fact or a headcanon- but since he was a sailor, that would make sense!
Still, it’s nice to see Sofia at least try to make conversation and connection with Miss I-Know-Everything Hildy when they each compared what ages they were when they started sailing ⛵️
I think Hildy just liked to be at the wheel, I mean, who doesn’t?
LOL those leaves from landing in the next painting’s bush were a nice addition to Sofia’s tiara 🍃👑
I also don’t blame Sofia for being annoyed at Hildy for Hildy’s actually knowing nothing getting them both in danger
Plus, I mean, it was very hard NOT to be annoyed at Hildy in “Scrambled Pets” either
And bull or not, you should be quiet around any threatening animal that is sleeping- of all the things Hildy didn't actually know, it is beyond me how she doesn't know that...
So good on Sofia for standing her ground and calling Hildy out for her actions! Seriously, Sofia had every right to be angry at Hildy 👏
I’m very impressed Amber knew just what warthogs ate without having to consult a book on them, cuz at the top of my head, I have no idea what warthogs eat at all! 🤷🏻♀️
Oh, and her poise and confidence in getting them to behave? 👌
“Because princesses are supposed to know everything if they want anyone to like them.” So……did Hildy just not like Sofia when Sofia first came to Royal Prep? 🤨
Because Sofia didn’t know anything about being a princess when she became one and was down on herself on that here and there throughout the first season- but did that stop her from making friends and being herself? Heck no! 🙌
But Hildegard’s intentions make sense. No one likes to be humiliated. Reputations mean a lot to people when they’re in school. We all just want to be liked 🥺
I had always assumed from Hildy’s flashback of her first day at Royal Prep that it’s a K-5 school just because she and other princesses look like they’re 5-6 years old in that flashback
And from that, I wanna say she, Sofia, Amber, and everyone else in their class are in like 4th grade at this point in the series? 🤔
Although young Hildy humiliates herself by falling down, I always loved that Hildy’s older sister included her and didn’t tell her to go away 💕
Oh, and that both Sofia and Hildy ended up getting humiliated at recess on each of their first days at Royal Prep- it’s not common to find someone else who has that in common with you! 💗
Anyone would consider themselves lucky to have a friend like Sofia in their lives, just saying 💜
Hildy’s distraction for the bull was definitely brilliant- she got to show off in a noble way, do something she was genuinely good at, and since the bull had her paintbrush, it might as well have been Hildy to get it back, right? 👏
And how fun that Sofia got to teach Hildy to sail while the dog got to enjoy the ride! He really seemed to love being in a boat! 😄
Yeah, because Sofia had been to a mermaid cove before, and goes to that same mermaid cove with her family every summer, I don’t think she and Hildy missed out on much from accidentally jumping into the enchanted paintings done by the previous students instead 🧜♀️
I can already imagine Amber and James’ warthog tea party painting on the wall giving a future student a good laugh if they’re having a bad day at school 😆
“I’m glad we were partners today, Hildegard.” “I’m glad that we’re friends, Sofia.” AWWWWWWWW 🥰
Also Hildy being the one to initiate their hug is really sweet too! 🥹
Hopefully Hildy and Amber had more hugs between each other going forward since Amber likes them too and they’ve been besties for like ever (if they ever did hug sometime after this episode, I’m not remembering right now…)
Oh and that Fauna realized eventually that she wasn’t just seeing things and doesn’t need new glasses or no glasses at all like she does outside of this show lol 😂
So…I wonder what that man named his new dog friend? Certainly a new friend, and a dog especially, needs a name! 🐶
