E20 | Meilingās Reaction to Sakura & Tomoyo
This is the first time we see Syaoranās apartment, but itās got a major error. Theyāre being kicked out into a hallway, but all other times we see Syaoranās apartment, the front door lead directly outside to a balcony. And you know theyāre being kicked out the front door because there is a name plate there. Itās a rare continuity slip up in a show that otherwise is pretty on top of that kind of thing.
Big with Spanish Speakers
This isn't about the show, it's just something I've noticed that surprises me. On Facebook I'm part of a fan group, and half the responses on a lot of posts are in Spanish. And on youtube where I'm posting videos, the recommended links lead to a lot of videos either hosted by Spanish Speakers, or Spanish dubs of the anime or manga. And very occasionally on ebay I run into Central American or south American users with insanely rare imports. Seems like CCS has a larger than average Spanish speaking demographic. Large enough to notice anyway.
Single Parent Homes
None of the main cast have two parents homes. Kinomoto: Mother deceased Daidouji: Father absent Li: Father absent or maybe dead? And whole families aren't common among the extended cast Yukito: Dad (Clow) is deceased Yuki: Dad deceased Akane: Parents divorced Sasaki: Father is absent enough for Rika to have emotional transfer to Terada I think broken families are fairly common in clamp works.
The Cards seem weak compared to Eriol
One can assume that with more practice and training, Sakura could display similar levels of magic to Eriol. But only in the manga with that Deck. Because the anime deck is incredibly limited in scope. In his time in the series Eriol displayed greater magic than any of the cards on several occasions.
-He has the power to animate objects (the piano, the stuffed bear, flying penguin statues), which no card has the power to do. He can also physically control peopleās bodies. -Heās able to control the weather for long stretches, and the elements (at least water and fire) -Heās able to generate an entire microverse inside a book. Exactly how durable the reality is isnāt explored but still, tiny universe. No card can do anything like that. -in addition he can warp space in the real world (when he moved all the rooms in the school) -He can spy through magic voyeurism -itās implied he uses magic either to take a younger form or heās halted his aging
This point was dropped in the anime but in the Manga one of the things Eriol wanted was for Sakura to become more powerful than he was so that she could split his magic. But really? Transforming a few cards was enough to make her more powerful? Sakuraās magic is entirely dependant on the Cards while Eriol can do all this and more through his own magic, no tools required but his staff. And like I said this is more apparent in the Manga where he displayed all the same abilities and Sakura had fewer cards to compare to.

Sonomi on Tomoyo's hobbies
I am sure that Sonomi doesn't inhibit Tomoyo's creativity and probably encourages her. But does Sonomi ever wonder what Tomoyo does with all these outfits she makes? And surely she asks what Tomoyo does at those late nights, or are the bodyguards sworn to secrecy? But still I'm left wondering just how involved Sonomi makes herself in Tomoyo's life.
Female adults?
This is more something I observed in the Manga. The anime seemed to balance this out.
For a manga aimed at girls, thereās surprisingly little in the line of adult women/female role models in CCS. Aside from Mizuki there are no other regular female adult cast members. You meet Sonomi twice, then sheās gone. She has teachers but Iām not sure they even have names. Most of the regular adult cast are male.
The anime as I said seems to balance this out, giving Sonomi a couple more appearances, introducing Maki. Teaching staff is still fairly under represented though.
Thereās kind of not a lot of adults in general though? Fujitaka and Terada, Yue, Clow⦠I canāt really think of any others that are major at all, as I wouldnāt count Touya and Yukito as adults. I havenāt read the manga in a little bit (I always end up rewatching the anime but reread the manga less) so I could be forgetting some people, but itās a pretty kid-centric cast.
It is a kid centric cast and yes I do count Touya and Yukito. I realize now I didn't count Nakuru with the women in the series at the time. And though Nakuru isn't human she is definitively a female character. So that 2 women to like 5 men who are regularly occuring. And Mizuki is only there for part of the Manga and Nakuru is only there for half the series so together they're like 1 character worth of time.
Lack of Chinese with the Li's
I get that it's casting thing and it's way too much effort to get a translator in there to feed some lines to the actors, but I just find it a missed opportunity that Syaoran and Meiling don't speak Chinese (probably cantonese) to each other. Especially early on, it would seem like the language barrier would be something Meiling would abuse to plot against Sakura, or use as a point against her in proving compatibility.
Yukito's food budget?
Exactly where does Yukito get the money for the ridiculous amount of food he eats. I understand this series is in Japan and the value of the yes is something I'm not THAT familiar with. But I know what 1000 yen bought me back in 2009 and even double that amount is not even half what was implied Yukito was eating per meal during the Sakura arc. I think I screen grabbed a shot of his lunch once so I might try a quick estimate.
Yukito/Touya difficulties?
Here me out here shippers and yaoi fans.
Nakuru explains sheās not human and doesnāt have a physical gender. And you can see from the way sheās designed she does indeed lack the physical assets.
Yukito is basically the same set up as Nakuru right? So does that mean he also lacks any male characteristics? Has he ever been to the doctor? A school physical? Hell itās Japan, has he ever had an uncomfortable visit to an onsen and realized something is literally āoffā?

Sorry Sorry T.T
Sorry this hasnāt been updated recently. Been really busy. I did finish rewatching the series and Itās been a chore finding time to go back with my notes and screen cap what I need. Will start again soon.
Tomoeda School Budget
Does anyone ever stop to think what kind of insane uniform budget Tomoeda has? Because not only do they have 2 seasonal uniforms (3 in the manga), but they also have:
-Outdoor camping gear -swim suits -2 seasonal PT outfits (that one isnāt so strange) -Cool weather gear (ice skating) -pink and blue ski suits
I understand itās actually a brilliant animation shortcut to make all the kids wear the same uniforms for literally everything, which cuts down on time creating different outfits for every kid, but in universe, who pays for all those clothes?
Tomoedaās Park Cliffs
In Tomoeda there are cliffs that characters fall off of multiple times (Illusion, Mirror, Ep 34)
Does Tomoeda not believe in signs? I mean the place in the Illusion Episode shows that there are guard rails but theyāre broken and no one seems to be making a priority of repairing them. Even a simple āsudden dropsā sign would be welcome in the forests in Tomoeda.
Episode 27: Touya/Kaho
Based on Fujitakaās expressions, it seems heās well aware of the relationship between Touya and Kaho. So, Iāve gotta wonder how that father/son discussion went.

Episode 17: Loop
Iāve watched this episode a bunch and I still donāt understand how only Sakuraās group got caught in the loop. Like, if they were at the end of the marathon and the Loop activated it would make sense but how did they get caught at the front of the marathon, but no one else involved got caught?
The more I watch the series and look for things to āfridge thoughtā the more I feel like Iām doing an āAnime Sinsā in the vein of Cinema Sins from Youtube. Iām trying not to be hyper critical but I guess thatās just what modern reviewer culture has done to me ><
