Is this like my first au where it actually follows the canon... sort of? Probably.

Only Leo can see him when he first pops up. Always at the corners of his vision. Every time he turns his head, all he sees is an empty space, with nothing in sight. Nothing but the cold and lonely embrace of the Dojo.

He was too pushy.

His brothers were worried for him. He's spending more time than usual in the dojo. His body has become much more sluggish, much more clumsy. His eyes are now have bags; he's skipping his meals, his favorite meals; he's avoiding his brothers... they needed to talk to him.

He's too distant.

It wasn't until Raph had enough and broke into the Dojo to drag him out for dinner that they finally got him to rest from whatever he was doing. It seemed to hit him as he picked up Murakami's patented pizza gyoza. Seeing the delicious treat once again, remembering when they first ventured up, that tears started to fall.

He was too scared.

April came over the next day.

She had finished enough of her studies to come down to the sewers, Donnie's rants and worries on the phone rubbing off on her enough to visit much earlier than before. Leo was acting off. He was too silent.

But she couldn't focus on Leo.

Because there was a small turtle on his shoulder.

He was too late.
