There seems to be a trend in the internet realm that is hellbent on portraying male submissives as weak or pathetic. This stereotype seems to end up being affirmed by many male submissives themselves who seem to think thatās what is wanted by those they seek dominance from.
I think that it this phenomenon is an interesting side effect of the porn industry and aggressive gender stereotypes. Society can- barely, but still can- accept that a woman can be strong and still submit to a man. However, a man submitting- to anyone- is pushing the limits of socially acceptable roles too far. Males cannot be fathomed to submit unless they are less than. Which is unfair to the extreme, because male submissives should be considered to be quite akin to female ones on most counts.
Pornography and erotica- videos, images, and writing- rarely, if ever, show a submissive man receiving with the same tenderness a woman can be shown to receive. The men are most often degraded immensely, stepped on- literally, urinated on, made to do humiliating things, made to endure intense pain. There is plenty of erotic content out there that shows women in the same position, but there is a growing amount that shows women being loved tenderly in their submission.
Iād find it rather hard to believe someone who tried to tell me that male and female submissives are all that different, that there is no parallel between D/s relationships with male versus female subs. Itās frustrating to see, and I certainly hope that time will allow this to be remedied. And I certainly hope it happens sooner rather than later, for everyoneās sake.
