Design Leadership

I know it’s pretty much required for all courses but being able to receive feedback from my peers and see how my classmates interpreted an assignment was really helpful and inspiring. Reading any comments left on my posts were really helpful and encouraging with taking the next steps in this project. I think it was a fairly good semester and I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned and the people I’ve worked with/learned from!

This course really opened my mind up to a different way to approach the design process. As a design leader, there a lot of things to consider when leading and designing. This project has helped me tap into a new level of my creativity and has really helped me grow my confidence in pitching my ideas more. I’m not quite at the point where I feel I can completely lead a whole design project but I’m confident I am on the right path and will be able to soon. I have never really noticed how much research can go into a design project (maybe I just didn’t realize because I wasn’t the one doing it) but now it’s clear how important and necessary it is. I may not actually see my problem for this project to be solved in the real world but the things I have learned from metaphorically solving it will be applied else where and help me solve an actual one.

I think pill bottles can be both a wicked design and amazing solution. It can be an amazing solution because they are designed to be hard to open so that small children can’t get to the pills which could potentially hand them. Though this is great, the pill bottle being hard to open may not only be stopping children. They could also be stopping those who have arthritis or and other ailment that may cause them to not be able to perform the action of pushing down and twisting to open. That could prevent them from taking the meds they need to help them.

Yahoo’s homepage I would say is an example of wicked design. It seems very busy and not easy to navigate for users. It appears a bit outdated and cluttered and could use a real revamp. Perhaps take some notes for Google.

This company Tropic uses balloon packaging that allows for every drop of their product to be used. A lot of skincare products I use I’m constantly having to take off the top or even cut the container open to get the last bit of product, which usually is still a good amount but unable to get out the mirando due to the shape of the container. Tropic’s choice to use balloon was a great example of responsibility in design leadership because they want their customers to get what they’re paying for.

I think the brand Nutrafol has done a great job practicing responsibility in design leadership. Nutrafol provides a hair growth supplements and their packaging is quite sustainable. When you first order you’ll receive your vitamins in a hard reusable container and then every order after that, in order to reduce waste, Nutrafol just sends your monthly refills in a bag that you can fill the original bottle up with.

I recently designed a logo for my cooking/business. I’ve used it for social media, stickers for the box the food goes in and I’m even thinking about selling magnets or some other merch to go with it.

I have designed and crocheted this mini dinosaur to give to my goddaughter. I just recently got into crocheting so my work isn’t quite up there yet but I feel like the effort and thought is what matters most.

Collaging I believe can be a great tool because combining all images or ideas together and seeing all your thoughts visualized helps bring them to life. Professions like fashion designers often collage together prints or colors or images of different articles of clothing to help bring their design to life.

Social Media also can be useful because you can bounce your ideas off of different audiences and get different kinds of feedback. Or even practice presenting an idea to people.

Telehealth was designed during Covid when in person doctor visits weren’t possible. Nowadays telehealth is still used for people who may not be able to make it into the office due to being elderly, sick, just have a quick question, or any reason really. This design is very inclusive because it allows everyone to be be able to access some level of care without even having to leave the comfort of their own home. Telehealth has been a very great addition to the healthcare realm and has been able to help so many no matter the race, gender, age, class, etc.

The second item is a tool that helps with opening jars. This product is especially helpful with those who may have health issues, such as arthritis, that affect their ability to grip things. This tools helps give back some independence to those who may have trouble opening jars by allowing them to get a better grip.

The second design of the parking meter is also an example I chose because of the card reader. As a person who enjoys having long nails, there’s been many times (more than I’d like to admit) where I’ve stuck my card in and couldn’t get it back out because of my nails and had to ask a stranger walking by to help me.
