I HAVE A VISION FOR THE NEXT FIC IN LINE. TELEPHONE.YOU. MARKETPLACE. REENACT THAT SCENE FROM ALLADIN. U KNOW THE ONE.
The fact that I understood this completely means that I need to take a break from all media consumption😭 Also, how do we feel about the new Journessy movie coming out? I mean the one with Tom Holland, not the animated one (WE are ALL hyped for that).
Pairing: Telemachusxfem!reader
Summary: You just want to get a stupid apple for a starving kid. But... You're broke. So, you get desperate.
Warnings: erm. Stealing ig???
Notes: Asklepieia is a type of ancient Greek hospital. It was not just for the wounded, but for spiritual cleansing and mental healing as well. Think of it as a mental hospital, hospital, and church put into one informal building. Also, I spelt Ithaka with it's Greek spelling.
"What's a girl gotta do to get one SINGULAR apple around here?!"
"Nothing, you just have to be in possession of some currency lady."
It's been ten minutes. You've been nagging some vendor because you felt bad for the little frail boy that was clearly starved next to the cart.
"Look, can't you see this kid is dying?"
"Yes. I can also see that he doesn't have five drachma. So get. Away. From my. STALL."
"Is that what you base your morals on? Money? That's a really low bar."
"Just say that you are broke."
This bickering continues for another five minutes.
While you're in the middle of explaining where you're going to shove your foot, a hand snakes around your waste.
Your first thought is that someone really wants to die today. But then a sly voice whisper in your ear. "You want that apple? Play. Along."
You don't know why this guy feels like publicly humiliating himself, but if it'll get you that stupid piece of fruit, you'd be up to pulling a stunt.
"Sir, I am so, SO sorry. This is my wi-"
You kick his shin. "Wiioww-my erm, my sister, and we're uh...."
This idiot really has rocks for brains. "We were just getting back from Asklepieia!"
"Yes! She needed some...mental care if you know what I mean."
The vendor looks like he wants to keel over and take a nap.
"She's a little bit crazy!" He mock whispers behind his hand.
Your eye twitches. "Do ya want to test just how crazy I am?"
He gasps. "See!? I must take her back! Clearly the healers did not do their jobs!"
He grabs your hand and drags you away from the cart. "What in Zeus' name was that?!"
"I thought you wanted an apple. Or three."
He pulls open his cloak. Somehow, he fit three crisp apples perfectly next to his hip.
You roll your eyes. "Thanks. But now I have to circle back and give that kid one."
His brown eyes light up. "Can I come?"
As soon as you make it into the alley way that would spit you right back next to the boy, a shout pierces through the usual buzz of the market.
"HEY! MY APPLES! GET THEM!!"
The pounding clamour of armored guards inch closer to you.
I'll be fine. They probably don't even know this alley exists.
The cloaked guy suddenly pulls you behind a barrel.
You try to speak, but he puts a hand over your mouth. "Shh. Guards."
His hood has fallen back, revealing his entire face. Your eyes widen. You're stuck in a fricking alley with the prince.
The footsteps fade into nothing. When he takes his hand away, you have questions. A lot of questions.
"Yes, I know you must be shocked, but it's really not what you think! I just needed a break from the suitors and... I'm really sorry if I messed things up."
"You literally made my plan work a hundred times better than I thought it would."
Even in the darkness, you can see his face turning a suspicious shade of pink. "Um, let's uh, give that kid some food now?"
You realize for the first time how this may look if you're found. Prince Telemachus of Ithaka sitting so close to another girl that their breaths mingle.
He squeezes out first, offering you a hand.
Once you finally find the boy again, you crouch down next to him. "Hey buddy. I have something for ya."
You look up towards Telemachus, sticking a hand out.
He hands you one of the three apples. You watch the child demolish it in less than a minute. "Do you want another?"
The boy nods quickly. You end up giving him all three.
You notice the look on Telemachus' face when you reach up for the last apple. He looks.... dazed. His eyes are glassy, a lazy smile on his face.
Walking back through the market, your stomach growls. Telemachus quietly takes your hand and leads you to another stall. You insist on paying, but he shrugs it off. "Consider this a date."
Your brain shorts circuits.
As you eat, you work up some courage. "You know, next time we pull a scam like that, I wouldn't mind being your wife."
