Alicia nodded her head in agreement. She knew this was true, but she also had a feeling Catalina was very capable of a great deal. She knew her hand was cold but still she reached out lightly placing her hand over top of the brunettes. “I don’t doubt that, but you’ve got it in you.” She managed a weak smile, but it was at the very least sincere. 

The way Alicia comforted Catalina reminded her vaguely of her older sister. It had been a while since Catalina had seen her - in fact, had she not been able to shift into her sister’s image, she might have forgotten her face by now - but the gesture from Alicia made her feel happier rather than sad. “Thank you. Now, you rest up for Alma, okay?”

“Definitely not. If anybody tried that, they better expect to get hit back. And, uh, that depends on the vibe, I guess. I’ll go wherever the night takes me.”

Snow made a turn back toward her and after being offered devised a way of expressing his sudden need. There were decals stuck on the window. Listing parts of the menu in a cheesy (no pun intended) manner. PIZZA HOT DOGS HAMBURGERS SODA ICE CREAM SHAKES. Snow reared up on his hind legs and reached for the last word. Shakes. Between a rumbly purr the cat meowed again. Anxious to see what she might do, Snow found himself having more than a little fun with this.

Alicia found comfort in the gesture, and it was nice, she had felt very isolated for some time now. She shook her head slowly as she looked at Catalina. “Don’t wish for that,” Alicia was strong, and somewhere inside herself she knew she would make it past this. “I’m glad you are well, it means you can help those who are not.” 

It means you can help those who are not. Catalina had never heard something like that before. Maybe in another life, she would have grown up with a mother who whispered inspiring and courageous thoughts to her as she was tucked in - but in this life, she was never taught or expected to be kind for no reason. “I will try,” she nodded. “Though that is easier said than done.”

What does it mean to be good? 

Snow sensed some hesitation about a half block down, though it was some odd miracle the woman had followed the cat up to this point anyway. He turned his head and a meow range out from between fangs, tongue, and lips. Keeping the same pace, Snow reached the left display window of the pizza joint. Once a fidgety couple had swung through the door with their to-go boxes in hand he found the frame and rubbed up against it while purring.

A place to eat. Snow already missed the local fair and wondered if the cat’s preferences would be enough to keep the reaper content in the meantime. It didn’t require nourishment of any kind, but after experiencing taste the sensations were hard to forget or replace. Such was the monster’s curse. Snow stood up just enough to bend back for a stretch. Tail hung high, he walked down the street. Nearest joint would be Paranormal, a rather safe bet for any foodie.

Alicia looked at Catalina, she was happy, she had made friends here, and it was clear that Catalina was someone she could depend on. She heard the woman speak in her native tongue and it was incredibly comforting. “Gracias,” she whispered, her voice was dry and weak, speaking above that was difficult. “I’m glad you look well.” 

Catalina squeezed Alicia’s hand for a moment before she pulled away, hoping her gesture would help her find some comfort. At the comment of her well-being, the shapeshifter shrugged with a small smile. “I’ve been lucky enough to stay healthy through all of this - I only wish we could trade spots in that sense.”
