Hi, We are casting a film called ‘Postcards from London’ which is a low budget feature being developed by the BFI. We are currently looking for our main character Jim (aged 18-20) and will be holding some castings in Manchester. I have included some information about the project and role below. Many thanks Summary It tells the story of a beautiful teenager called JIM who arrives in Soho form the English countryside.  There he befriends a coterie of male escorts known as "The Raconteurs" whose unique selling point of their encyclopedic knowledge of the arts.  The film follows Jim's giddy ascent from novice to sought-after escort and artist's muse - a journey complicated by a rare psychosomatic condition called "Stendhal Syndrome", which renders Jim painfully oversensitive to art.  Jim's encounter's with paintings  from such artists as Caravaggio cause panic attacks and eventually hallucinations.  While this condition opens up new opportunities,it also, when Jim encounters the seedy world of art forgery, threatens to bring about his downfall. Postcards From London takes place in a Soho of dreams, a Soho of imagination.  The film is a mediation on the idea of the 'muse'  (in this case a boy from the "wrong side of the tracks") and the relationship between art - both classic and modern - and the male body that inspires it. Sexy, comic and playful, Postcards form London uses humour and cutting edge visuals to explore artists as diverse as Caravaggio, Francis Bacon and Andy Warhol, all of whom, in radically different ways, investigated and celebrated the idea of the male form.  The Writer and Director is Steve McLean whose first feature film was nominated in the US at the Independent Spirit Awards and Sundance Film Festival.  This will be his 2nd Feature. The Producer is Gavin Emerson who has previously been nominated for 3 BAFTA awards. JIM (Male) HE IS THE LEAD. A working class boy, new to London.  He must be beautiful and sexy ( without being aware of just how attractive he is).   A rough diamond.  A combination of vulnerability and confidence, of naivety and bravado.  At the beginning, at least, there is an innocence, an awkwardness and self awareness.  However, like all teenage boys, he's a bundle of contradiction, so even when we first meet him, there are flashes of intelligence, of wit, of self confidence.  We have to believe that Jim has 'something special' that artists would want to capture, would want to paint and photograph him, whether it be in contemporary London or in renaissance Rome. He should have an edge to him, a sexiness and a charisma.  Someone we can imagine the great artists falling in love but someone who is contemporary, who is believable as a modern character.  He should have a roughness but also a teenage vulnerability and a sensitivity which goes beyond his  "condition". In some ways he's old beyond his years. References might be a very young Dexter Fletcher in "Jarman's "Caravaggio" or River Phoenix in "My Own Private Idaho" or a more recent example might be Joseph Gordon Levitt in "Mysterious Skin" Playing age 18 - 20 Height Any Agreements tbc (low budget)

The makers of ‘One Born Every Minute’ and ‘The Hotel’, Dragonfly Film and Television, are working on a new TV series about raising kids, from tots to teenagers.

  We’re searching for fun- loving families who would like to take part in this groundbreaking series about the ups and downs of being a parent. We want to show what family life is really like – that it’s chaotic, exhausting and frustrating, as well as joyous, hilarious and fun. We hope the series will be heart-warming, engaging and entertaining. Our aim is to give an honest portrayal of what it’s like to bring up children of any age, across the country.

Through REP Foundry - our artist development programme - we are aiming to forge a generation of theatre-makers who will take us in to our next 100 years, creating and generating new work for a new era, a newly developed building, new stages and new spaces.

This free, year-long programme will provide six writers, six directors and six theatre-makers from the local area with access to the expertise, resources and infrastructure of The REP; the opportunity to collaborate with other practitioners and companies; monthly masterclasses, one-on-one professional mentoring to develop a new piece of theatre and an opportunity to try out new work at monthly scratch nights.

Chris Lane Productions and Zero Facility Films require a male actor and one young female actor for the purpose of simulated family photographs for short film ‘Radio Silence’. The images taken will be used in the production design of the film and will be taken alongside our lead actor Tracey Sheals.

  We are aiming to create natural looking photographs, straying away from posed studio shots. We will likely head to a location that might represent a family holiday and shoot informal, fun and natural photos.

  The aim is to show that once Elaine Barrett, Tracey’s character, had a family that was happy and full of love, because in our story we join her once she is the only surviving family member.

  A couple of costume changes would be required for the shoot and we’d hope to shoot between now and the 15th of August, possibly on the weekend of the 10th/11th.

  Months fall off the calendar and coping with her isolation and the loss of her family steadily takes its toll. We are shooting a low budget horror movie in Manchester from the 6th-9th August and this would mean arriving the evening of the 5th and leaving the morning of the 10th.  Travel expenses will be covered, as well as food and accommodation.  With regards to accommodation, we are staying in a lodge on the site as it joins on to the woodland where we are filming.  The site also has running water, showers, electricity etc... with good security.  I am looking for 3 roles to be filled; these are 2 male and 1 female, all in their early 20's.  The female character is weak and scared, yet by the end of the film her personality changes to being very calm and dominant.  For one of the male roles, he is quite cocky, humurous and does not take things very seriously, and may need to use a small and light handheld camera for large parts.  The other male role is rather cautious and sensible.  The roles will be unpaid but will be great experience for everyone involved. Realistically I need to cast these roles quickly so if people are able to get back in touch with me as soon as possible that would be fantastic.  The actors will receive a copy of the DVD as well as the film being entered in to a number of film festivals.  Just to explain a little about myself, I have recently graduated from University with a 2:1 in Film and Television and have had television experience working on a documentary for Channel 4 and a national tv commercial for Coors beer as a runner.  I have written the script and I am very passionate about this project being a success.

Production company in Manchester are looking to film a really cool music video for a singer called Random Impulse in Manchester Wednesday 18th July. The part is a psycho / bully girlfriend with supernatural powers - this girlfriend is trying to annoy her boyfriend like we all do, but she has supernatural powers to help! She's got to be early twenties to get a really freeing uninhibited performance.  Acting experience is essential. She's got to be quite something.  She's got to be like a spunky fashionista mixed with a bit of girl-next-door cuteness.  Full of raw attitude and crazy energy.  She's also got to have something other-worldly about her - whether it's slightly bigger eyes or a dark edge to her look.  Something about her physical features that's totally unique that could suggest her genes are supernatural.

Chris Lane Productions and Zero Facility Films require a female lead to play the role of a widowed mother in

a short drama.

Directed by Mat Johns and produced by Chris Lane, ‘Radio Silence’ is a zombie film with barely any

zombies in it. It is a sad profile of what an isolated person might go through at the end of the world.

The screenplay is written by Dean Lines and Ray Bogdanovich. Dean and Ray have had work screened

at two of the UK’s leading short film events, namely The Portobello Film Festival and Brief Encounters

International Short Film Festival in Bristol, and in 2009 were finalists in the Virgin Media Shorts competition

with their film, ‘Three Little Words’.

Mat’s latest film ‘Kiss’ is currently on the festival circuit and was recently selected for the prestigious London

Short Film Festival.

Filming will take place in August 2012.

Role is unpaid but travel expenses will be paid upon receipt of bus/train/tram tickets as proof of purchase.

Food and drink will also be provided.

This short will be entered into several major short film festivals.

CASTING CALL

‘Goldfish’ by Lisa Whiteside

Performances to take place 20-27th July, as part of the 24:7 Theatre Festival.

Directed by Darren R L Gordon.

This play is set against the backdrop of a rough Manchester council estate.  It is a gritty, emotional tale with humorous elements.

All actors will need to be able to perform in ensemble scenes involving some elements of physical theatre and choral work.  Northern accents required, Oldham accent preferable but not necessary.

  ·     Cody- Mixed race aged 18-26, attractive northern male to play a boy of 12 years old.  Cody is a young boy that is popular with the girls on his local estate.  He soon realises that in order to survive like the other kids he needs to change his ways and not be the good, well behaved boy people are used to.  

Manchester based rehearsals to take place on a part time basis: evenings, weekends, some full days.  Full availability required for the festival week 20-27th July.  Payment is on a profit share basis.

  ·     Nick-White male, playing age 25-35.  Preferably tall, medium build, northern.  Policeman who has recently been appointed on a very rough estate.  He is keen to make his mark and let his presence be known, however often a little naïve in his approach, easily makes mistakes that often have disastrous consequences.

  ·     Sam-Female, playing age mid-late twenties, Northern.  The local youth worker on the estate, adored by all the kids due to her fun, down to earth nature. A young mum, that is engaged but not to the right man. She seeks solace in her role at the local youth centre and prides herself on the work she does with the kids and enjoys being the ‘popular one’ amongst the kids. A little rough around the edges in her appearance.  Northern accent required.
