I made a Cas POV rec list about two months ago!

In general, aeli_kindara writes excellent Cas POV which is one of the reasons she is one of my fav authors! a few of the fics below are written by her.

A man named Cas wakes up in 2003 with no memories, but he’s able to piece together a few things:

1. Supernatural creatures exist, and most of them will hurt innocent civilians if he doesn’t stop them; 2. He has abilities that no human hunter should have, but he knows enough about human hunters to keep that to himself, and finally; 3. He keeps running into another hunter named Dean Winchester, who seems to be about as lonely as he is if he’s willing to put up with those former facts long enough to help Cas unravel the mystery of who (or what) he really is.

For his part, Dean’s still (not) dealing with Sam’s departure to Stanford, and figures distracting himself with a bit of mystery and intrigue is as harmless as it gets, right? Right.

so this has, HBO spn, pre season dean and pilot sam, a handful of lovable characters we missed, finale fix it while also fixing stuff from older seasons, and its a time travel fix it. So, yeah

my notes:

one thing I hated about season 15 is how little they adressed the empty issue. Like there was so much potential ( would’ve prefared if the empty was the main villan ), this fic tackles it in such an awesome way.

Dean should be scared. The being in front of him was terrifying by all means and yet for some reason, as he stared into the creature’s eyes, Dean felt a warm sense of comfort wash over him. Because those dazzling, glowing blue eyes were so familiar, the pain in its eyes mirrored with Dean’s. Which is why, when it reached out one long, dripping black hand out to him, Dean reached out, too.

Dean didn’t know if it could talk. It didn’t need to, anyway. Dean knew what it was asking, and he answered the silent request without a second thought.

“Yes.”

Faced with death, Dean makes one last ditch effort; praying to an Angel he knows wont hear him. Deans prayers are answered when a vessel-less Castiel forces himself out from the Empty, taking possession of Dean’s body in order to heal him. Castiel’s grace is running finite however, charged down after saving Dean’s life. Now Castiel resides within Dean’s mind, too weak to survive a transfer to another vessel, leading them to a desperate search for a way to rebuild his body. Time is of the essence, with Castiel’s grace burning out with every passing day…

this was a dream i had the other night

castiel is aromantic.

"it'll be different when you meet the right person," they used to say, always the second thing when cas told someone. never the first thing. that was reserved by variations of "there's no such thing." but the second? that didn't change. the same words, in the same voice, accompanied by the same sympathetic look in their eyes. he hadn't wanted their sympathy — he wasn't broken.

at least in the beginning, he wasn't.

("things will change." they promised, still. "you won't always feel this way; you just haven't met the right one for you yet.")

and as ridiculous as it had been to tell a queer, afraid teen they were wrong about themselves, there had been some truth in their promises after all.

it was different now.

with dean, everything was different than it ever had been.

when cas had paused their the good place marathon mid-episode — dean's hand still deep in the popcorn bowl on his lap and now a confused, lightly concerned wrinkle between his eyebrows — because he was too scared of holding it in any longer, getting too attached only to lose someone all over again, and had then spilled a confession: a rushed "i'm aromantic" at the beginning, and a sad, if inevitable "if you want to stop...this, what we're doing, i understand," at the end, dean hadn't gotten up and walked out.

instead, he'd finished shoving the handful of popcorn in his mouth, wiped the salt off on his jeans, and proceeded to pull cas into a hug.

things did change, because instead of being yelled at, and called a freak of nature, a robot, or the relatively more understandable heartless, he got dean whispering, "i'm not leaving you for anything, buddy," close into his ear while his hand stroked down cas's spine and threatened to coax out the tears that were already pricking his eyes.

and they'd been right. cas did feel different now, too.

no longer alone, because dean stayed. no longer misunderstood, because dean googled articles when he thought cas wasn't looking, and fell asleep with his face pressed against a google answers about being an aromantic identifying person's partner, on his work table at eleven pm on weekdays, and cas loved him so much for it. and no longer afraid, because dean promised he wouldn't let go.

and that was a promise he believed — even if it took them some time getting there. and then he believed it for good.

because, you see, it is different once you meet the right person.
