I guess you forgot that Dean almost died in Faith. And he came close to dying in In My Time of Dying.

Remember what Tessa said?

Fifteen (actually it’s seventeen) years later, and Dean just ran out of time. 

Dean vaguely remembers ‘normal’ life with his mom and dad. He barely kept it together when he was with Lisa and her bastard son.

This is a man missing his soulmate BEST FRIEND every minute of every day. A man thinking that maybe THIS MORNING IS THE DAY I WAKE UP AND REALIZE IT WAS ALL JUST A BAD DREAM AND SAM IS ALIVE. 

Dean only knows hunting and if he had walked out that barn with nothing more than a few scratches and bruises, he and Sam would have continued the Family Business. 

Sam knew normal. He lived it when he left for Stanford. We won’t talk about the OOC shack up with the veterinarian who should have had her license revoked a long time ago. But we saw that his ‘normal’ after Dean’s death was completely different. 

Would I have liked Dean to live a little longer into the episode? Of course.

But the episode was only an hour long, with commercials, so Dean had to die early so that we would appreciate their reunion in Heaven. 

This new version that was bought back lacks the balls to be anything but Cass.
