okay you know I have to go back to my first three comments- I don't want to be that person, but I really really owe it to the first people ever who commented - like I viscerally remember writing in headcanons in stories i thought they'd appreciate for them. (max @cassie-thorne i hope you're doing well my dearest friend!)

okay some birthday headcanons just because:

Nora's 33 this year which is a scary time because well, she's growing old and like it isn't even one of those iconic birthday ages - y'know the sweet sixteen, the big 2-0, or even turning 30 and calling yourself 29 instead. One of those reverse birthdays.

So she makes a day out of it, y'know? Her birthday is like a guarded secret, she doesn't like making a fuss about it she isn't twelve-turning-thirteen but she will make a fuss about it internally.

But of course everyone remembers it. Nora also knows everyone remembers it because she gets an old Facebook alert for it and she is fucked on all fronts.

So she ends up going to a burger place and getting her friends food because one, it's a nice thing to do for your friends on your birthday and two, reverse Jedi mind tricks, baby. She's outplaying them in the "birthday surprise" field.

Except thank God for no birthday surprise because everyone's like "Yes, sure, your birthday, fine, but we need to get to work..?"

I'm just kidding, they have a small celebration. Trystan brings out a small cake for all of them to share. He is aware Nora isn't fond of big birthday celebrations. He is also aware she's like 33, which means she's probably the most boring person to be alive on planet earth right now, but either way it's fine.

The cake is just every inside joke packed into one edible form, which makes Nora use her detective prowess to point out the references before eating them. The burgers are a hit. Everyone raises their juice cups and sodas in her honour because there's not a single bad time for burgers.

Work day ends on half a day, considering it is a Sunday and they're only called for either filing new cases and answer the phone (or) emergency situations. Mafalda gives them the rest of the day off by 11. Luke erupts into huge cheers. They pretty much spend until all evening, drinking, swapping stories and laughing.

And that's it! Everything's happy-- except Nora has a seisimic-sized headache the next day and it is NOT because of the drinking.

I'm sorry it's two days late, but it's been a crazy week! :) I posted some shoutouts on Thursday, but there are many other talented artists in our fandom that deserve appreciation, and y'all know I wasn't following that "4" rule anyway. 😊

I'm really happy that CFWC added art to our blog this year because it exposed me to many other artists who are in Choices fandoms that I'm not as involved in, and I'm really grateful for that.

@oh-so-youre-a-nerd - WOW! That's all I can say... WOW! You have been such a force in the fandom - between the in-fucking-credible art you create (your TALENT!) and the positivity you bring - you've blown me away this year! I'm so glad you're a part of our crazy corner.

Fantasy isn't usually my genre, but some of the artists here have convinced me to read Blades. That's how powerful and beautiful their art is. To @erixafleur (who has one of the most beautiful MCs I've ever seen!), @artbyalz (I love your work and the advent calendar! That was amazing!) @baldwinboy5ive (your talent and creativity boggle my mind! I'm in awe) and @cashweasel (the most recent Tyril... holy crap! I stared at that for longer than I care to admit. Wow!) All of you make this a far more beautiful place. Thank you!

This year, I had such a great time reading Crimes of Passion 2, and we were lucky enough to have artists that made the experience even better. Among them, @cassie-thorne (Cassie is just badass, and your Trystan! This piece blew me away, and from that point on, every time I saw your post, I was giddy!) @nukritus I simply loved your renditions of Trystan, you had such a creative style that just brought something new to him. Thank you for sharing with us! @fairymatchmaker the way you can see the love for your creations in your work! Seriously, it just shines through each and every time. I'm always excited to see something new!

One more shout-out, and I'm sure they will probably say they don't deserve it because they're just starting out, but this is about what brought us joy in 2023, so I have to mention @inlocusmads. I know how much you love Nora through your words, and now I get to see your vision through your art, and I can't tell you how cool this is! I love what you've created so far, and I'm so proud of you for doing this!

There are so many talented artists in this fandom. I could never pick only four. I am seriously in awe of all of you and your talents. You truly make this fandom a more beautiful place. We are lucky to have you all.

it's new year's eve, so here's an art vs artist to end the year~

i wanted to thank you all for the support and kindness you've given me this year. truly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you 🥹💛 2023 has been such an awful year for me, from losing my grandmother, to the car accident, to all the various other bullshittery that has happened... i was not doing well at all and my mental health was really at an all-time low,,

but despite me not being too active and even disappearing/being radio silent for several months during the second half of the year, you never stopped showing me love and reaching out to make sure i was okay, sending me nice and encouraging messages and for that i am so so grateful!! i go back and reread all of them now when i'm feeling down or to get a motivation boost 💛

ahhhh i wish i was more eloquent so i can really express how grateful i am but just know that you all mean so much to me!!! truly!!╰(*´︶`*)╯

i can't promise i'll be more active in the coming year but i will do my best to make art that makes us all happy!

@cassie-thorne: Max's art is literally the best and I love her work so much! She puts out bangers after bangers and I absolutely loved watching her style evolve and grow this year and I'm looking forward to seeing it next year too! I especially absolutely love how Max tackles lighting and backgrounds in her work, like it's so unique and each piece tells its own story too. @fairymatchmaker : Joy's art is actually a masterpiece, like this is not just your everyday artist sorcery-shenaniganing, this is like the chad version. I absolutely love love love how they draw outfits and poses, like their attention to the small things is just insane. Thank you for sharing your wonderful art and being around in the fandom! @mydemonsdrivealimo: MJ's stuff exhuberates this 'cool' energy, like my guy, you could actually design those energy drink logos or comic book covers because each piece is just SO FUN, okay? I'm def looking forward to how it'll be in 2024. (tattoo-shop au when??) Some of my favs: Jensen in weird lil tees, THE PIRATE AU, jenseeennnnn and virtually everything (I'm especially a fan of MJ's little doodles like this and the cutest thing ever)

@hydn-jpg: I love Hayden's work partially because each piece of art has its own fanbase (as it should). Last year I got a giveaway piece from them and it is still something I look back frequently because it's just so goddamn beautiful. Some of my favourites from them: just follow my lead, this adorable pick-up line, literally everything they'd created for the expression-memes this year, long time no see partner and okay, technically this is cheating but this is a piece from 2022, but this portrait of artura is just i'mma cry okay?

@oh-so-youre-a-nerd: Thia's work is nothing short of frightening (affectionate) witchcraft and I mean this in the most sincere way possible lmaoo. I still have a lot of their stuff to explore, stalk and fan over, but their Raine artwork is just S-tier for me, like look at THESE THINGS: The villain arc, head empty still thinking about this, Trystan in a flowy lil dress and ofc their entire Raine x Aerin stuff because that's either the most depressing, poetic thing ever or a massive serotonin boost. I hope to see more of your stuff on my dash next year <33

@erixafleur: I came across Erica's work after lurking in the Blades side of the fandom and I loved their MC Raya's redesign so much! Plus I loved the art style too because it gives me Disney animation vibes. I hope to explore your work even more next year! Some of my favs include: This vanity fair-themed art and oh my god their eyes, it def gives 'i'm so judging you' and I'm here for it XD , the cutest owlbear sketch EVER and this piece of Raya & Tyril

@rosefuckinggenius: Rose's been a consistent force in the Choices fandom and I absolutely live for their work, okay? And I'm not just saying because I received this UNIT of an art piece from them for Trys and Nora - like I'm still in just awe. I'm also such a fan of the fact that their work is just really soft (if I can describe it that way) to look at - like I'm a sucker for soft colour palettes, okay? My favs include: this Beelzebub piece (not Choices but yknow what how about i put it in here anyway?) and this piece for @jerzwriter featuring Eli's family .

i was planning on drawing shreya and verena but when you mentioned here that trystan and haelyn would dedicate the holidays to learning each other's culture, i thought it was really sweet and adorable so i had to draw it!! so here's them baking belladi, which is the only canonically drakovian dessert that i know of (there may have been other dishes mentioned in-game but this is the only one i remember and i haven't finished reading book 2 yet ,, lol)

i also think your mc's backstories are super cool!! it's so fascinating to read how your mcs came to be, down to all the intricate details, and the connections to other mcs from different books?? omg!!
