Another dumb fucking meeting as usual, yet, just as I ran out to reach my sister, WHAM, I get thrown into a fucking wall by stupid fucking Mud.
"Hunter." Jasper said cautiously. "Don't."
"Fine." I got up and walked in.
The place did look nice. We headed into the meeting room, where every other Mafia leader in the universe was gathered. I recognized Ellasyn, Finn, and Linx easily. Elle was Cass's partner, Linx was the parental figure of their whole group, and Finn being the casual troublemaker. Along the wall I saw Melancholy Hill and Breadhead talking to Serial Designation J, and in the far corner was Jeremy. He caught my eye and nodded respectfully. Before I could go over, however, Cass immediately started the meeting.
"Hello, you all, I am Cassidy, the leader of The Violet Skull. We're discussing the rottling gangs across the Gaslight Distritct, they've been murdering many. However, we still don't know who've been murdered or who's murderous hands show. Does anyone know at least one thing?"
"Straight to the point," I muttered thoughtfully, causing Jasper to snort.
"Do we at least know where the bodies are being found?" Mud and Austen say in sync. They looked at each other, shocked, then just looked away. "Nothing has been found," Ellasyn whispered. I barely heard her, too.
"That'll at least help us cover some things, right?" Austen responded, and Mud nodded in agreement. How odd.
"We don't know where the bodies are, just the general massacre area."
"Okay. where?" I questioned.
"Look it up!" Finn blurted out. Jasper stifled a laugh, and I glared at him.
"We can't just -" Father starts.
"They're kidding, Rovanavo." Linx said with a sigh.
"Whatever. We don't have time to joke. We have work."
"Hunter Lyle Pent -" My father started.
I interrupt before he can even say my full name."Good."
"What if someone in the mafia was causing this?" A low voice from the corner erupted. We all turned to the voice, finding Serial Designation N staring right back. I found it shocking that he had came, due to the loss of Uzi Doorman a few months ago....and whatever had happened with Cass's family so many years before. Cass forced a smile.
"What makes you say that, N?" it asked, its voice strained.
"Something similar has been happening on Copper Nine, my dear. In the same time frame of the ones here, too." My dear?
When the fuck was N polite like this to Cassidy? And especially her at that! I could see Austen and Ellasyn had felt Cass's rage towards the disassembly drone. Jasper swallowed hard and watched with wide eyes, his fists clenched. Even my own father sensed something was wrong between the drone and the humanoid.
"I see," Cass muttered. "And why do you think someone in the mafia would kill the very thing we've sworn to protect?"
"That's their reasoning, Cassandra," N replied slyly. "Not mine."
The whole room held their breath as we waited for Cass to respond. No one had ever dared call Cass by its real name, especially in the face of the other leaders. Instead of something violent, Cass smiled sickly.
"How many sentinels have you been sending out, then, N?" His optics flickered red for a brief moment, and I could hear a low growl forming in his throat.
"You think it's me, Cassidy?" he asked with barely contained anger. "I was nearly killed by one of those ambushers myself."
"Explains a lot on why you hadn't shown your face recently-"
"Meeting dismissed!" Jeremy snapped, slamming his hand onto the table.
Everyone looked shocked for a moment; no one ever saw Jeremy get angry. Not even his own sister. We all filed out immediately, but I could see Cass and N being pulled aside by Jeremy. The dude looked furious with the both of them, and that was a scary new look for him.Now I was really concerned about the situation. Jasper shoved me out. "Cmon, we need to go."
