About the Region
The Casona Region is based on California, and is home to 101 brand-new pokemon! Each of these pokemon is based on a California native plant or animal (with a heavy focus on endangered species), or a piece of classic California culture.
Similarly, the main cities and other named areas are based off of California's many national and state parks, with a few famous tourist locations mixed in.
In Pokemon Land and Sea, trainers will begin their journey in Southern Casona in coastal Santiego Town, journeying all the way North to battle the Elite Four near Eurbolt City. Along the way, trainers will pass through nature preserves, region parks, and see all kinds of iconic landmarks, all of which are home to unique pokemon that roam free in these protected areas.
Plot
Having just moved to Casona with their mom, player Kit is the newest recruit of the famous Casona Trainer Rangers. The Trainer Rangers program allows young people from Casona to work alongside Pokemon Rangers: scientists, researchers, conservationists, breeders, and more, all people who work to protect the endangered flora and fauna of the region.
As a Trainer Ranger, Kit carries a Rotoradio- a walkie talkie possessed by a Rotom-, as well as a field research notebook which acts as the player's pokedex on their journey. The Trainer Ranger program is headed by Professor Redwood, the top pokemon researcher in the region, as well as her assistant Francesca, the current Champion of Casona.
Along the way, Kit encounters new friends, as well as the nefarious Team Cash, a group who will do anything for the right price. But who is funding their current scheme to destroy the protected lands and steal the pokemon that live there? None other than the head of the land development firm The August Corporation, Rush August. It's up to Kit and the Trainer Rangers to stop him from destroying the region altogether, while completing the gym challenge and striving to become champion along the way.
Characters
Kit: The player character. Kit has just moved to Casona all the way from Alola so their mom can begin her new job as a researcher under Professor Redwood. Kit has just signed up as a new recruit to the Trainer Rangers.
Sacra: The other new recruit to the Trainer Rangers. Sacra has a very competitive nature and challenges Kit to a race in completing the gym challenge and to become an official Pokemon Ranger. He dreams of becoming a pokemon breeder in the name of conservation and sustainability.
Angel: After Kit's first encounter with Team Cash, as the grunts run away, Angel is left behind. Having only joined Team Cash for the money to care for his sick pokemon, Angel decides to follow Kit around and help out with their pokemon journey and do some good instead. He's still a bit of delinquent, though, and it's probably best not to ask where he's getting all the items he likes to give as gifts.
Diego: Kind-hearted but dim-witted Diego has been a Trainer Ranger for a few months. He joined because of his love of the outdoors, and his favorite hobbies are surfing and hiking. Kit meets Diego when he gets lost, as he often does, and needs help getting back to the Professor's lab.
Rosa: Diego's best friend and another established member of the Trainer Rangers. In contrast to her friend, Rosa is quick-witted, but her sarcastic attitude makes it difficult to make friends. She is a staunch activist against pollution, poaching, and other destructive acts against nature, and works very hard as a Trainer Ranger to keep Casona clean and safe.
Francesca: Fracesca was the first person to join and graduate the Trainer Ranger program. She is the champion of Casona and works as the assistant to Professor Redwood. She often has a very blank expression, but loves telling jokes, though they often fall flat.
Professor Redwood: A very tall, gentle, and intelligent woman who cares deeply for the lives of all pokemon. Perhaps even too much, as she has a tendency to burst into tears just from looking at them. She often relies on her assistant Francesca to do all the serious things in the job because she gets emotional too easily. She is very interested in sustainability and often makes her own clothes. She likes to give gifts to others of homemade clothing items as well.
Rush August: The head of the August Corporation, a land development firm. He likes to collect rare and endangered species, keeping them in cages or mounted on his wall, and dreams of a version of Casona that has been razed to the ground and he is the sole owner of the remaining pokemon. His dream is to capture the legendary pokemon of the region for his very own.
