It's all about how We Are intertwines romantic, platonic and familial love to form these friend groups and these brothers and just... all of it. The whole story. About being loved and loving and trusting and growing and they all play their roles in that, all of them.
We see friends support each other and joke around and we see friends push hard truthers and harder choices and we see parents that don't understand what they did wrong and parents who love their child with all their heart and support him fully and siblings who love each other but barely know how half the time and are just doing their best. And we see lovers who settle directly into their dynamic and others who struggle and people who grow with love.
We get to see Fang enter more and more into both his relationship with Tan and into his friendships with the others as well as growing into being Phum's older brother and starting to see and accept the cracks in his family and find love anyway, love he can trust, love that lets him rest and ask for what he wants, love that lets him not feel like a burden or like he has to fix something just to be loved.
We've gotten to see Q and Toey go from insecure and unsure to so absolutely certain that nothing can bother them, both of them open about their love and unafraid because the worst thing that happened already happened, already passed, and now they have each other. And we've seen how loving each other only makes their friendships stronger, only lets them smile more and gives them new confidence and joy.
We've watched Chain pine for Pun and Pun pine for Chain and the desperate way they love each other but want to stay friends more than than dare to risk on their romantic wishes, the smiles and the softness and the brilliant eyes and it makes sense, to see their friendship so strong and their fears of what love might do, asking for cupid to show them a sign and both of them too far gone on the other to realize what's right in front of them because their platonic friendship is just as important as their romantic feelings.
We've watched Phum grow into himself with his friends and his love for Peem, watched him realize that he can be loved and he can be comforted and he can matter and he does matter and deserves to be love and deserved to be important and deserves to smile and all the while we've watched Peem wrestle with his own tendencies towards putting other people before himself but also learning that he can love and comfort people and bring them joy and having all his friends ready to defend him and ready to cheer him up but also trusting him, his friends knowing that he can find his own way in the world.
It's about all of them, all their loves, all their joys, all their ups and down, this whole little group of idiots and geniuses and love, love, love.
