op81updates oscar in a recent interview revealing that his french is actually quite good because charles' mum cuts his hair and doesn't speak english so they communicate in french 😭 #CanadianGP
Interviewer: "Last time we spoke, your French was a work in progress. How's it coming along?"
Oscar: laughs "I think my French is actually quite good now! Well, better than it was."
Interviewer: "Have you been practicing?"
Oscar: "Yeah, I've had some help and I've been putting it to use."
Interviewer: "Oh? How so?"
Oscar: "Well, I get my haircuts from Charles' mum, and she doesn't speak a single word of English."
Interviewer: surprised "And she understands you?"
Oscar: smiles "She does now! Took a bit at first."
Interviewer: "The Leclerc family must really like you."
Oscar: "I hope so."

AN:This is my first ever writing thing, I apologize for any misspelling or bad editing(there was non). Please give me feed back if you can!
Boyfriend Patrick Jane who can read your mood the second you walk into a room. Skipped breakfast? He’ll know. case affecting you more then your letting on? He knows. Hurt your shoulder taking down a suspect? He defiantly knows. He knows how you work. You’ll tell him when your ready, but when you find a half a sandwich and a coffee on your desk while he’s half asleep on his favoured couch, you know he knows. When you ask how, he just smiles.
Boyfriend Patrick Jane whom with nicknames are consistent at work, always “Y/L/N” or “agent”. At home? Never, always your name, “My sunshine” “sweetheart” “darling” (or “trouble” if he wants to get you riled).
Boyfriend Patrick Jane When on cases You’re one of the only people who can actually call him out at work, or make him make good decisions( or at least let you in on the bad ones)
Boyfriend Patrick Jane Who has the habit of putting himself in dangerous situations with no back up, but since starting to date you, he lets you pull him back.
“Patrick-“
“Yes?”
“Absolutely not.”
Boyfriend Patrick Jane who is protective, and while he knows you can absolutely fight your own battles, sometimes he takes over before you can. Someone raised their voice at you? “Don’t talk to her like that.” Sometimes when he’s already riled and someone verbally insults you, he’ll yell. He doesn’t like to, but no one hurts you and gets away like it’s nothing.
Boyfriend Patrick Jane And your house. Neither of you are exactly the most tidy, your house (after moving into a new place, not the same house in which Patrick lost his family) is homey. Lived in but not messy. Books and journals scattered. Shelves full. But you’re happy with it.
Boyfriend Patrick Jane Who admits always that You’re his happy place. Simple as that. Your nights at home consist of cooking, tea, old movies, you reading on the couch, him pretending to read while in reality he’s just staring at you. “Jane, you’re staring” you’ll say without looking up from your book. “Yeah I am.” He says with that signature smile.
Boyfriend Patrick Jane who is a do now, deal with later person. But, now you’re his voice of reason. Even if you’re not there you’re on his mind, he has someone to think about again. Now he starts to think before he acts. He still has slip ups, but he apologizes and promises he’s working on it.
Boyfriend Patrick Jane who has no shame about his love for you. He loves not loud, but passionately. He is like a love sick puppy with you. While PDA is on the down low at work, at home? He can’t keep his hands off you. Not nessarcily sexual, but just that he needs to have some kind of contact with you.
Boyfriend Patrick Jane who would never admit it but you getting mad at him kinda turns him on. He’s out of line, he put himself in the middle of something he shouldn’t have, his perfect girl is there to yell at him. And he is Smiling the entire time, cause he is exactly where he wants to be
Summary: you had been working with Patrick Jane for awhile at the CBI one night you stay late to talk about the case. One thing leads to another... The next morning your gone
Content: Patrick Jane x female reader / suggestive content/ making out in public/ hurt/comfort / kidnapping/ reader gets punched and stabbed:( / confessing fellings / if I forgot something please let me know
An : I am so excited to post this! This is my first time writing for Patrick Jane I just started watching The mentalist about a month ago I'm almost finished season 2 and this man has been on my mind non-stop. If you have any requests regarding this character please let me know but !!!!no spoilers please!!!
You sat on that leather couch with your feet on Jane's lap. The rest of the team had gone home. And Cho had just finished his paperwork. He told you both to get some sleep. Before he left the office.
Most of the lights were off. It was so quiet. You normally never stayed behind, but something about this case was different. You had something on the tip of your tongue but you couldn't quite get there yet you didn't have enough evidence.
“You feel guilty.” you lift your head from the arm rest. Jane's eyes are closed. Like they've been for the last half hour.
“What?” He always does this. You don't know why you humour him every time. Maybe because you're soft on him. Many people think he's a pain in the ass when he somehow manages to read your mind and share it with everyone around. But you never minded it. You were a pretty open book anyways.
“You feel guilty because you need more evidence. You feel guilty because you want more. And the only way to get more is for another girl to die. You don't want that but you need it, hence guilty.” He says with his eyes still closed.
You rolled your eyes and let your head fall back. Right again
“You're right” you hear Jane hum. You sit up “I do feel guilty. We need more evidence. Obviously this guy's a cereal we just need him to…”
“Make a mistake.” he finally opened his eyes
“Right. I just wish we knew where he was meeting them.”
“Well my guess is a bar, but which bar is too soon to tell. Both victims frequented at least 20.”
“We don't have enough manpower to cover every bar in Sacramento.
“So we wait.” he says as he closes his eyes again.
You kick your feet off his lap. Janes’ startled in the process. “I refuse to believe that's all we can do, isn't there another angle something else we can look for.”
He bends over to the table to grab his tea. You wondered if he wanted it earlier but didn't move because he didn't want to disturb you lying in his lap.
“No, all we have is two body's, two girls that look similar.” He looked over at you, then back to his tea. “But is to soon to see if its coincidence”
“You don't believe in those.”
“This is true but.” he let it hang in the air. “Nothing nevermind.” he sets his tea down.l
“No you can't do that.” You moved over to sit next to him. “You can't just keep your theories to yourself.” he raised his eyebrows. “Okay i know thats what you do but come on cut me some slack. I stayed late because I.” I wanted to spend time with you "I wanted to talk more about the case. I know you have something in that head of yours.”
He's looking at you listening to you talk.
“It's just us,” you move in closer. It's like you're trying to get him to tell you a secret that requires a hush tone, even in an empty room. “You can tell me.”
He turns to meet your gaze, shifting in his seat. He lets out a sigh.
“With the two girls looking the same there is absolutely a pattern, a type but what i dont get is the way he kills them. First one was suffocated, next one was shot, it's like he's trying to figure out what he wants to do with them. The fact that he always keeps them for a few days to do god knows what. Proves that he's a psychopath. I just.”
silence
“Just what?” you whispered
You didn't realise how close you two had gotten on the couch till now. You could smell the chamomile in his breath.
You stared at him. He was always looking at faces, always trying to read peoples thoughts and he was damn good at it. You didn't know if he knew what you were thinking. You didn't know if you wanted him to know, if you were being honest.
The real question is not if he knew. He knew what you were thinking, it was if he was going to let you.
You leaned in and he didn't back away. His eyes darted between your eyes and swiftly to your lips. He's not pulling away.
You move closer. Noses almost touching. His eyes are hooded and he hasn't pulled away. You take that as your sign.
You tilt your head slightly and close the distance. Your lips move against his.
His are still. You feel his exhale brush the top of your lip. You pull back slightly. Letting him make the next move. Your eyes were closed. You didn't feel the couch move beneath you so you know he hasn't pulled away.
You opened your eyes to find him staring at your lips. You're scared to move and don't want to scare him away.
“Jane.” You couldn't help but call his name. “I-”
He leaned in this time his lips were moving against yours. It was quick and sloppy like he hadn't kissed in years.
His left arm raised to hold your face. He was dominating the kiss and you welcomed it. You met his lips with just as much passion he put in.
He leans in and lays you down on the sofa, holding himself over you, never breaking the kiss. You reach up and grab his face, sliding your fingers through his hair. He lets out a sigh. And his kiss falters a bit but he quickly regained his composure.
He moves his knee between your legs. Enough to feel the heat but not enough to get any serious pleasure from.
He takes his free hand and moves it along your body. Till it reaches your waist. The kiss had become steady and passionate now.
Your shirt must have untucked from your skirt because you feel his soft fingers sliding underneath. You pull on his hair again.
His whole hand is under your shirt now. His warm hands barely touch you. Like he didn't know if you were really there.
“Patrick” you moaned.
His hand stills and his lips stop.
Fuck
He pulls himself off of you and quickly stands up. Like you were a fire he was trying to get away from
“I cant i,-” he's looking at you, the floor, his eyes are darting all around.
“Jane.” you quickly go to stand up and take a step towards him. He takes a step back lol
“Im sorry i,” he turned and left. Not looking back, not grabbing his suit jacket.
Leaving you alone. In the empty office.
…
The next morning was surprisingly crisp. Jane drove to work in silence. He felt awful for leaving you like that. He just didn't know what to do. It had been so long and he hadn't been with anyone since…
Once he pulled into the station he just sat in his car. Not moving. He didn't know what he wanted to say to you. He liked you, god did he like you. He just didn't know how to react. He wanted to kiss you, to touch you god knows he's thought about it before, but once you called his name it felt… He didn't know how he felt. He leaned forward and rested his head on the wheel.
Bang
He looked up. It was Lisbon. He could tell by her face something was wrong.
Lisbon and Jane made their way inside and the rest of the group was sitting there all except … you
Van Pelt was the first to speak. “I went to pick her up this morning. And when she didn't pick up the phone I assumed she was asleep. I went into her apartment to wake her up. She always sleeps in so she gave me a key, she wasn't there. She never made it home.
Rigsby chimed in. “How could you tell?”
She always leaves her gun in the same spot. When she wasn't in bed it was the first thing I checked.
“Alright, who was the last one here?” Lisbon asked in a calm and cool tone, she was worried but she had to be solid, for her team.
This can't be happening. Jane thought he couldn't believe he left you alone last night. In his haste he forgot he would have been your drive home. In the entire 3 times you've left after Grace he drove you back. All except-
“Jane?”
“Yes?” Everyone noticed he was lost in thought.
“Cho mentioned when he left around 10:30 you two were still here.” Lisbon said.
Everyone was looking at him for answers waiting for him to speak. To say something that would solve this.
“You left your jacket here last night, did you two leave in a hurry?” Rigsby mentioned.
“No we didn't, I did. I uh, left before her.” Everyone looked at his flustered state.
“Okay. We need to know what time she left, Rigsby, go check the cameras to see when she ended up leaving.” Lisbon ordered
“Yes boss.”
Shit
“I'll go too”. Jane followed behind as Rigsby left to go check.
Jane needed to figure out a lie or an excuse to ask Rigsby if he could check the cameras by himself. As soon as he got to the room Jane put his hand on Rigsby's chest.
“I need a favor.”
…
You wake up and open your eyes but it's so dark. You'd think you were dreaming if you didn't have a splitting headache. You go to grab your head but your hands are stuck at your sides.
“What the-” you go to look down, your eyes trying to adjust to the darkness.
You're sitting on a chair. A pretty busted up one that is. You went to move but the rope was too strong. Once your eyes finally adjust you realise. The way the rope is tired is in the same pattern as the victims.
“Shit.”
“Quite the problem I'd say.” you look up and squint. There had been someone in the room this whole time. Just sitting and waiting in the corner.
“You know I'm a cop, they're going to be looking for me.”
“Yeah,” he sits up, coming closer to you. “And im santa clause.” he walks over finally coming into sight. He's younger than you thought he would be. “If you're a cop. Where is your badge or” he leans in and places his hand on your hip. “Or gun”
Shit
“I’m with the CBI I’ve been working on your case. Your first victim was Kelly Stuart,”
“Shut up”
“She was suffocated. You kept her for-“
“I said shut up” he took a step back, turning around realizing his mistake. You kept talking.
“- two days before you finally put her out of her misery” you were cut off but a swift punch to the face.
Your head whipped to the side and you yelled in pain.
It took a second before you spoke again.
“They’re going to find you.”
…
“Why do you need to watch this alone?” Rigsby asked, genuinely confused.
Jane moved in closer. “She, well we,”
breath
“She got a phone call from her mom that her childhood cat died and she got all upset and was crying and oh gosh it was a mess. But after she told me not to tell anyone.” he moved in closer. “She didn't want to look weak.”
Rigsby paused…“Okay sure.” Jane flashed his trademark smile and went into the room by himself.
It didn't take him long to find what camera and the best angle to see when she left. He watched as they talked on the couch. He watched as you kissed him. He can't believe he left you like that. And to think that might be the last time you saw him, a coward. When he looked up it was him leaving in a rush to get as far away from his feelings as he could. He watched as you sat back down on the couch. With your head in your hands. You were crying.
He doesn't know how he's ever going to make it up to you. He has to find you.
After he fast forwarded the tape and saw that after about ten minutes you left without taking your badge or gun with you.
He left you to walk home alone at night without any protection. He knew you were the killer type, everyone did, they just didn't say anything. And his selfishness caused her to get taken.
“So?” Van Pelt asked.
“She left about 11:30.” Jane stared, and he walked over to her desk, pulling her gun still in its hulster. “Without her badge or gun.”
“Why would she do that? She was the killer type. I never go anywhere without my gun.” Cho said.
“Her cat died.” Rigsby announced.
“So the killer doesn't know she's a cop?” Van Pelt added
“Hey this may be a good thing,if he thinks she is just another girl he should stick to his original time line. She's a strong girl, she knows we're coming.” Lisbon paused. “Hey i thought her ca-”
“She doesn't live that far, only a few blocks. Grace? do you know the way she walks home?” Jane cut her off before Lisbon could finish.
“Yeah-”
“Then we could walk the same way and see if any bars along the way match up with the disappearances of the other victims.”
…
You were starving. You knew only having a bagel for lunch yesterday was a bad idea. Your brain was foggy and your face was so sore. you can't tell how long you've been here or if it was day or night. All you knew was that the man who took you was gone. You heard him drive off. You knew if you had anytime to escape it would be now.
You desperately tried to free your hands but it was no use. You didn't know how long he would be gone for so you had to think quickly. The chair felt wooden and your legs weren't tied up. You knew if you knocked the chair hard enough against the wall it would break. It would hurt but it was the only thing you could think of.
It took a moment but you managed to stand up. You didn't know the best way to do it so you did what first popped into your mind. You stepped away from the wall. And took a deep breath. You ran towards the wall and at the last moment turned your back.
Craaaaack
You hit the floor and curse out. You went to move your arms but it was no use. One of the chair legs broke off but the arms and the rest of the chair was unfortunately still intact.
Leaving you on the cold floor. Laying on your side. You kept struggling but it was no use.
Your looming fate crossed your mind and you started to cry.
…
“We've been to about 10 bars in like an hour.” Rigsby said, sounding defeated.
“No, we've been to nine bars, this one's ten.” Cho retorted.
As soon as they walked in the bar. A kid caught their eye. And he started running to the kitchen.
“HEY!” Rigsby shouted. And started to follow.
“I'll go round back.” Cho said, running out the front to the back of the bar.
Rigsby chased him out to the back where his partner waited, flanking him.
The young man turned around to see he had been caught so he gave up and put up his hands.
Lisbon and Jane watched Cho and Rigsby grill the suspect from the next room.
“I mean how old is this guy, he barely looks 21.” Lisbon asked.
“You're right he's too young to pull this off. But look at him, he's hiding something.” Jane says with his arms crossed. Not taking his eyes off the suspect
“Maybe a partner, someone older like a mentor?”
“Yeah maybe.”
Lisbon pulled out her phone. “Van Pelt, see if the kids got any one older in his life that has a record of violence we think maybe he has a partner.” She hangs up.
They both listen in on the interrogation for a while.
Lisbon turns to Jane.
“hey, I know that that ugly cat of hers died 8 months ago and she was glad it was gone, So what actually happened last night and so help me god if you lie to me.”
He didn't know what to say. What happened last night? He was a coward, he left her by herself after she showed him what it was like to feel something again.
As soon as he opened his mouth to say something Van Pelt came through the door.
“Boss, we've got something.”
As soon as they got out of the room, Jane stopped them. “I'm gonna stay here and see if I can get anything out of him.”
Lisbon nodded and walked down the hall with everyone. He opened the interrogation room door and watched as the kid looked at him.
“Where are your other friends?"
“Busy. finding where your partner is." Jane watched as the kids’ faces faltered. Bingo he pulls the chair right next to him.
“Now, you're going to tell me where she is.”
Getting the kid to spill about his brother and the place he keeps them was easy. He knew the others would figure it out soon and follow suit. He wanted to get there as quickly as he could. He couldn't let you die. He couldn't let it happen. Not again.
…
After you eventually pulled yourself together. You thought about your friends, about Jane.
About how he pushed off of you last night. You didn't know what you did wrong. You can't believe you did that to him. You hope you can see him again to apologise. That is you don't die in this disgusting basement first.
You hear a car pull into the driveway and you mentally curse. You hope whoever took you didn't get mad you tried to escape and broke his chair. You thought your chances were slim.
You did all that you could do and thought about the things that made you happy. Trying to stay strong. You know they'll find out who did it. You try not to imagine everyone looking down at your body.
You heard footsteps. Slow and careful. It was taunting you.
When you fell and broke the chair you managed to fall facing away from the stairs so you couldn't see them coming.
You heard the door open and you closed your eyes and tensed. Your whole body goes stiff as you prepare for the inevitable.
You feel a hand on your shoulder. You don't open your eyes; That you didn't realize were full of tears.
“Hey, hey , it's me, your okay.”
“Jane.” You opened your eyes and saw him on his knees above you.
He puts his hand on your face. You winse in pain.
“You should see the other guy.” You say trying to make him not pity you.
“Are you hurt?” He starts to look over your body for any wounds.
“No I'm okay. Just hurry please.”
He starts to work on the rope of one of your arms.
“Where is everybody, I only heard one car pull up.”
“Yeah about that. I might have gone ahead.” He keeps trying but the knot is really tight.
“Tell me you brought a knife or something.” He stops and looks at you with a face saying the idea never crossed his mind.
“There's probably a knife somewhere in the house I'll be right back.” He gets up and runs upstairs.
“Jane!” You call out as he leaves you downstairs. And just like that your alone again. At least you know help is coming.
Just then you hear another car pull up. But it's just one, and no sirens.
“Shit, come on.” You struggle against your restraints but no use.
Jane comes running down the stairs
“Got it!” He shouts
“Shh” you hush “just hurry up someones coming."
He made quick work with the knife and was able to free one hand then the next. He held out his hand and pulled you up.
When he saw the rope burn on your arms he held them in rubbing he's thumb over it.
“Oh come on, it's not that bad.” There was a silence.
“I thought I'd lost you. I-”
the sound of footsteps cought both your attention.
“Come on” you point to the wall beside the stairs. “Stay here don't move.” You whispered.
…
Its moments like this were when Jane wished he could help. He always felt so useless when he had to stay out of the action like this.
He knew it was for the best. He watched you stalk forward knife in hand. And all the sudden you jump out of sight and he hears the sounds of fighting.
Your out of his line of sight. He can't see you. What if you need his help.
He slowly walked towards the end of the wall and peaked out to see the man on top of you and was holding the knife. You were strong but this man had at least 60 pounds on you.
He looked for something to grab. And found the leg of the chair that broke off. As soon as he grabbed it. The sound of your scream jolted him.
He looked over and the man had stuck the knife in your shoulder.
He ran up behind him and cracked that chair leg as hard as he could against the man's head.
Causing him to fall on his back. Jane looked for a moment to make sure he wasn't going to get back up.
“Is he” you groan out.
“No, We're safe now your safe now.” He's looking to see the wound. You had your hand over it to try and stop the bleeding.
He quickly takes his jacket off and uses it to apply pressure to your shoulder. You wince out in pain.
“I know I'm sorry. They'll be here soon, don't worry.” as if right on que he heard the sirens. “Hear that? They'll be here before you know it.
“Jane i-”
“It's okay, don't talk, just listen to my voice.” his voice was smooth like honey. The voice he normally reserved for putting people in a trance.
“Jane, I'm sorry.” your losing a lot of blood. you're starting to feel cold.
“for what?”
“For the other night, i-” you're fighting to keep your eyes open. “ I shouldn't have done that to you. I'm sorry. I don't know what i was thinking i-”
He kisses you. one hand still steady on your bleeding wound the other gripping your face. He pulls back when he feels you stop moving. He pulls you into his lap.
“Hey, come on, wake up.” he takes the hand from your face to below your jaw to check your palse.
Still beating but slow.
The first voice he hears is Lisbons
“Down here we need a medic.” he shouts out
She gets down stairs. He tells her to cuff the kid.
The EMTs are next through the door and they tell jane to get up so they can help. He stands back. He looks down and sees the blood all over his hands. Your blood.
…
You wake up and open your eyes but the room is light, almost too bright. You let your eye adjust for a moment. You try to remember how you got there but it’s blank.
“There she is.” You turn to your left and see a beautiful blonde man with a gorgeous smile and striking blue eyes.
You go to sit up but feel a sharp pain in your shoulder.
“Hey carful.” He jumps forward and holds lightly holding your shoulder helping you to a comfortable position.
“What happened anyways” your mind was foggy all you can remember was fighting the guy with a knife.
"it doesn't matter, what matters is that your back, in" he looks at your arm. "In mostly one piece."
You looked up at his eyes, he wasn't meeting your gaze, after all this time of knowing him you could tell when he was just putting on a face. This was one of those times.
"you were worried about me," you said slowly. "Really worried." He finally looks back at you and he has tears in his eyes.
"Im so sorry, I-" he takes a deep breath and re centers himself. "I feel horrible. The other night when we.-" another pause. "I just panicked. I hadn't felt like that since. I haven't... So when you said my name. It made it feel so real. I was scared to lose you too." Hes taken your hand and has been gently but fermly squeezing it. " And then the next morning when you were gone. I thought it was happening again. Im so sorry for leaving you like that."
You say and listen to him pour his heart out. You started to tear up as well.
"Patrick," you squeeze his hand. "I thought I was going to die last night. I don't want to die with any regrets-"
Before you could open your mouth you were silenced by his lips on yours. Slow and deliberate. He's cheeks were wet with tears but so we're yours.
The words were to scarry to be spoken out loud but the kiss said all that needed to be said.

Rigsby was a good friend of yours, you joined the team a long while ago and the two of you just hit things off. He had a similar humor to you and a similar way of going about things which made it easy for the two of you to become friends. Of course there was nothing more to it though because you and the Rigsby also had similar problems.
Rigsby is in love with Van Pelt, it wasn’t really a secret crush by any means but he liked to think so. Your problem though was hopefully much more sudle. You were in love with Patrick Jane. That stupid consultant somehow had you falling for him and it was of course: just as one sided as Rigsby’s crush. Maybe there was some way to fix that, or realize the crushes aren’t as one sided as the two of you thought.
It was about to hit hour one into the stake out you and Rigsby had gotten put on. Though both of you hated it it was apparently your turn once again. Rigsby had eaten through all of the snacks like a bookworm in a library so now it was really all about waiting. Maybe you should try Cho’s method of bringing a book.
“So hows it going with Van Pelt?” You chirp up suddenly making Rigsby turn his head away from the house you were watching. You heard him sigh a little. Somehow whenever the two of you did stake-outs you talked about this at some point.
“Terrible man.” Rigsby shakes his head, “It’s like every time I think she’s feeling me something happen and we take another step back.” You nodded your head along with Rigsby’s complaints. “It’s whatever though, maybe she just doesn’t like me and that’s that.” The agent says.
Before you can say anything Rigsby speaks up again, “Hows it going with Jane,” the agent chuckles to himself after he asks his question. Rigsby always found your crush on Patrick to be funny, well just because it was Jane! You smack him in the shoulder before you answer him.
“Same as you I guess.” You answer with a heavy sigh. “He acts like hes into me but I can never tell if he’s being genuine or that’s just how he is you know?” You explain and Rigsby nods his head along in agreement. It’s silent in the car for a bit before your friend speaks up.
“Do you wanna go on a date y/l/n?” Rigsby asks, “Like you and me.” The look of confusion on your face must be clear because he continues to explain. “I’m just thinking neither of us have gone on a date in a while it might be nice, as friend of course.”
You think for a minute and then nod your head, “You know what? Yeah sure. Maybe if we’re lucky it could make Vanpelt and Patrick a little jealous.” You say with a shrug of your shoulders.
“What do we say to them though? Theres no dating within the team.” You ask and Rigsby thinks it over for a minute.
“Just say we're hanging out, like don’t specifically call it a date.” Rigsby says and it kinda sounds dumb yes but it could still work. “And don’t let Lisbon know.” That part is smart though.
Before you can answer a moving figure enters your vision. You point towards the house you have been guarding and the two of you see a person making their way out of the building. The two of you get out of the car in sync and when the man sees you he goes running. This makes both you and Rigsby run after him in different directions, Rigsby right after him and you where you thought he might pop out.
Time skip to after you catch da bad guy
You had had to tackle the suspect and damn did it hurt when you landed on concrete wrong. You and Rigsby were standing around waiting for the rest of your team to show up when you spoke up.
“Were you serious?” You ask him a little out a breath and a hand holding your back where you landed. “I mean about the date.” You finish, Rigsby shrugs his shoulders.
“I mean you might be right about the whole jealousy thing,” The agent responds and as he’s talking a car carrying Lisbon, Patrick, and Cho pulls up next to you. “After the case is wrapped up?” Rigsby asks and you just nod while your teammates get out of the car.
Time skip again
The rest of the case took about a week to get wrapped up and at the end you and Rigsby had your ‘date’ planned. The date was more like a hang out if anything. You were just going to get some drinks and then some dinner, nothing you hadn’t basically done before.
You and Rigsby had decided to go right after work on Friday and well this is it. You wrapped up the last of your paper work and handed them off to Lisbon who thanked you for you'rehard work. When you got back to your desk you started packing up all of your things. Patrick and his couch resided right behind you desk which was a good and bad thing depending on the situation.
Right now though he seemed to be sleeping but peeked open an eye when he heard you moving around. “Heading out y/l/n?” Patrick asks without moving.
“Yup.” You says simply and then decide its time to light the fire you and Rigsby had been cooking up. “I have some plans tonight I gotta get to.” You exclaim.
“Oh?” Patrick inquires still keeping his eyes closed and body un-moving. You smile before you speak.
“Yeah, Wayne and I have plans.” You say all smug and you can tell the exact moment it clicks in Patrick’s mind what’s going on. His eyes open and he pushes himself up to be in a sitting position.
“You and Rigsby?” The conultant asks looking at you with a look on his face that says ‘really? him?’. You hold back a chuckle while rumedging through your purse to ensure you had everything you needed for the night. To keep up the facade though you shrug your shoulders.
“Yeah, why what’s wrong with that?” You ask as innocently as you can. Patrick is now fully sitting up and looking at you in disbelief. A look you don’t normally see on the not-psychic’s face.
“Oh nothing is wrong,” Is all Patrick says with a little sigh as he shakes out his suit jacket so he can lay back down comfortably. “Nothing is wrong at all. Have a good night.” Patrick waves you goodbye. It’s your turn to be shocked beacuse is that really all Patrick is going to give you? You attempt to find any sort of emotion in his voice that is what you wanted him to be feeling but theres nothing. He really can be an ass sometimes.
“Yeah you too.” You bite out with the same amount of annoyance you felt. This is when Rigsby walks over from his desk, finally finished with all of his work aswell.
“You ready to go?” The agent asks and you can see him glance between you and Patrick curiously and it almost pisses you off more. Instead you force a smile and nod your head happily. Behind Rigsby sits a certain red headed agent that seems quite intereested in the whole situation.
You watch as Van pelt eyes you and Rigsby and you know foor sure she heard your conversation with Patrick. When you and your fellow agent turn to leave Van Pelt offers a warm smile that doesn’t seem too genuine and despite yourself a real smile reaches your face as you say your goodbyes.
Rigsby is a little giddy and when you’re fully out of ear shot he starts excitedly talking in a whisper. “Did you see that?” The agent asks you. “She was so pissed we’re going out!” It’s almosy funny the way he’s so excited about this. “You’re plan was genius she’s totally jealous.“
Theres a new sort of puff in Rigsby’s chest as you make your way to the elevator. As if remebering there was another part to the plan your friend looks over at you. “What about Jane?” Rigsby asks you curiously.
“Couldn’t care less it seems.” You grit your teeth together at the memory of his nonchalantness over something you hoped you get at least a little rise out of him. Befor Rigsby could answer you fellow agent Cho gets out of the elevator you were about to get into. The man looks between the two of you with the same look he always had on his face.
“What’re you guys doing?” Cho asks but it seems like he already knew the answer.
“What does it look like we're doing?” Your date answers and you realize now he’s not the best liar when it comes to situations like this. “We're going on a date.” Even you dont believe him when he says it but you smile at Cho either way. You watch the gears turn in the agents head as he thinks for a minute then answers.
“Is it a fake date?” Cho asks but it seems rhetorical. “To make Jane and Vanpelt jealous?” Your jaw is slack when he finishes telling you his theory because it is spot on.
“What dude how’d you know?” Rigsby looks around as if you were caught doing something illegal and it makes you chuckle a bit.
“How’d they take the news?” Cho asks and it makes you smile that he just completely ignored Rigsby.
“Patrick doesn’t really care.” you answer your friend and try to make it seem like it doesnt bother you but Cho’s a good detective. “Van Pelt on the other hand was pissy.” You whisper as if its a secret and you can see a small smirk reach Cho's lips.
Rigsby puffs his chest out and holds himself like his ego has been inflated 20 sizes too big. “Yeah she’s definetly Jealous.” The man tries to act all tough and nonchalant and a look shared between you and Cho says everything.
“Well have fun.” Cho says and you and the other agents do your goodbyes before you walking into the elevator for your “date”.
Time skip again my b
Its the next work day you had and you kinda feel like shit. Maybe it’s because of Patrick maybe its because of a million other things but you know it’s because of Patrick. The fake date was great and refreshing but the whole weekend you couldnt shake the way Patrick had reacted. Choosing to not let it bother you to the best of your abilities you walked into the office and found your desk.
The elevator ride up to your office was just spent lost in thought, mostly about that stupid consultant who wouldn’t leave your mind. When the folding doors open you walk through mindlessly till you catch sight of Patrick. You had planned to avoid the man as best you could that morning till you had a case to distract you with. Of course it’d be difficult you and Patrick are quite close but you hadn’t expected to meet him the second you walked through the elevator.
Being as curtious as possible you plaster a smile on your face and go to greet him but Patrick’s walking towards you and suddenly - without stopping - whisks you off with him. Of course you’re confused but Patrick doesn’t say anything and any reltaliation is shushed by the man.
It doesn’t take long foryou to get to an empty office room that does'n’t get used unless it’s an important meeting. Patrick closes the door behind the two of you and then turns around so he’s facing you.
“What the hell Jane? What’s going on?” You ask the consultant, your voice is simultaniously accusatory but hushed because of the situation the two of you were in. You didn’t want anyone coming in an assuming something. Patrick though looked almost hurt at your words.
With his face scrunched Patrick waves his hand in the air. “No no don’t call me that,” he says and you furrow your brow at him in confusion. “You always call me Patrick don’t stop now just because you’re mad at me.” At his words you striaghten out your back and calm down your face.
“Mad?” You ask, feigning innocence. “I’m not mad at you.” Patrick gives you a look that tells you to cut the shit but you keep up the facade.
“Oh come on you’re lying? To me?" Patrick points to himself in disbelif as he takes a step closer to you. “It’s practically spelled out for me. How you were talking to me last night, you’re all tense and it’s very clear in the way your eye brow twitches that you’re irritated.”
Patrick lists out every reason he has to back up his claim and damn do you hate being on the other side of his profiling. “Yeah so what?” You ask trying to sound sure of yourself, the way Patrick sounds.
“I don’t want you to be mad at me just because I didn’t react the way you wanted me to about a fake date.” Patrick has a little outburst but mainly keeps him calm and you’re a bit shocked to hear his reasoning.
See you could say something along the lines of ‘fake? It wasnt fake innocence dont know what you're saying Patrick!‘ But you you decided not to waste your breathe on asking stupid questions.
“How’d you know?” You ask and maybe thats a stupid question too but whatever. The distance between you and Patrick gets smaller when he closes the gap with a step towards you.
“Of course I knew the date was fake,” Patrick says with an almost bashful expression. “Rigsby’s in love with Vanpelt,” Patrick hesitates taking another step closer to you so that he’s so close you’re almost touching with every intake of air. “And you have feelings for me.”
Your breath hitches and suddenly Patrick is too close because you’re now exposed and he’s right there. There's no use in trying to act nonchalant and deny anything because if Patrick knows that then he’ll obviously know you’re lying too.
“I don't- How-” Everything you mean to say dies on the tip of you’re tongue because it’s Patrick and he knows and he is still right there. You don’t get a coherent word in before Patrick is shushing you.
“I haven’t said or done anything about it because there was a chance we wouldn’t be able to continue working together and,” Patrick hesitates for a minute. Taking his eyes off you to in turn look down at his fidgeting hands. “And I couldn’t risk that but we - I can’t keep just waiting around.” It’s all so much to take in and the confessing man doesn’t give you much time to think.
“Patrick I-” You try to speak but there he is shushing you again and honestly you weren't sure what to say in the first place. After all this time Patrick was laying it all out for you and it honestly didn't feel real. If it was for how close Patrick was, how your breathing was starting to sync, how to look in his eyes was a burning flame, you would've thought you were still dreaming.
“Y/n you have made my life better, you’ve changed me and even though I knew the “date” was fake I didnt like to think I could lose you to stupid rules. I mean really when have I ever let rules stop me before?” Patrick jokes but he seems to almost be getting choked up and you arent any better the way you're breath is taken away.
Patrick doesn’t say anything else and you are speechless just soaking everything in. The room is quiet and all your senses are just filled Patrick it’s almost overwhelming.
“Well Patrick,” you start and the man is looking at you with that passionate fire in his eyes that continues to burn bright. “I feel the same way about you. But you know that obviously.” You mumble over your words but Patrick is looking at you as if you hold the sun and moon in your hands so you keep going. “I’m scared about loosing you too but I want this.”
With the final word you reach your hands out and take his in yours. Patrick looks down at where your hands meet and then back to your eyes with an adoration that melts your heart. Patrick’s mouth is agap like he had something to say but he’s said enough for the morning, it was your turn to take action.
One hand leaves his and reaches up to his cheek, your thumb rubs the soft stubble there. Yours and Patrick eyes are locked on eachother as you lean into him slightly getting on your tip toes so you can reach his lips. Your eyes flutter shut the closer you get to him and Patricks leaning in to meet you half way.
The kiss is gentle but passionate, Patrick practically melts into you. His hands find your waist to pull you impossibly closer as he deepens the kiss. It’s as if his lips leave a fiery trail behind them. Your arms wrap themselves up on his shoulders and around his head, fingers running through his soft golden locks. When you finally have to pull away for lack of air Patricks chases your lips untill he absolutely has to reluctantly pull away.
The two of you stay holding eachother, breathing heavy with your eyes downcast. No words are said but the look you're sharing says everything you couldnt find the words to say. Everything is flooded with Patrick and its as overwhelming as it is completely amazing. It just feels 5right5 to be this way with him.
The sound of people moving around outside the office you currently resided in reminded you of where you were and what you were doing. Instinctively you push away from Patrick but a firm grip on your waist keeps you close. You swat at his chest a little.
“We gotta get to work.” You say trying to be stern but even you dont believe what you're saying. Patrick leans in giving you a peck on the lips that catches you off gaurd and you're inclined to deepen the kiss because this is all you’ve been wanting but you force yourself to push away. “No Patrick we have to get to the office or god forbid people will come looking for us.”
A pout lands on Patricks face and you smile at him amused and laughing. “If we must.” The consultant says and gives you a peck on the forehead that warms your heart and sends a flurry to your heart. Patrick pulls away from you and straightens out his suit jacket. “You should leave first since you're the actual agent and all that.”
You chuckle and straighten yourself out as well trying to make it look like you werent doing what you were just doing. You feel almost overwhelmed with all of what has happened but it also feels overwhelmingly right. Once you're completely done getting yourself presentable you make a move to the door.
“Sorry about the fake date stuff.” You say suddenly a bit embarrassed but Patrick waves you off.
“Don’t worry, I knew it was fake from the start.” Patrick tells you.
You frown. “So you weren’t even a little jealous?” You make a small pinch sign with your hand and Patrick shrugs his shoulder.
“Only a little.” The man smiles and leans towards you to which you roll your eyes and lean in to give him a little kiss.
“We can talk later yeah?” You ask because obviously there is so much more you had to say and so much more to figure out for what your relationship ment. Patrick gives you a sincere look.
“Of course.” He says and suddenly it feels like everything really will be okay.
You say your goodbyes even though youll see him in only a few moments. When you walk out the office it feels like everyone knows what has happened in that room but you keep your head up and do your best to act as if nothing has happened. On your short walk to your office area a door ahead of you in the hallway opens and a barely put together Agent Rigsby walks out.
The man isnt very subtle the way he quickly darts his head around the hallway as he straightens himself out. Rigsbys eyes land on you as the both of you freeze untill you figure out what just happened. With a smirk on your face you keep walking and Rigsby joins you while he tightens his loose tie.
“Vanpelt?” You ask and you dont need to be looking at Rigsby to see the smug grin plastered on his face. Your friend nods his head and you can almost see the new aura of confidence that surrounds him.
“Jane?” The agent asks in response. You get a matching proud grin on your face and nod your head the same way Rigsby did. As you reach the open office room where your team resides Rigsby puts out a closed hand to which you give a sneaky fist bump too before you split and go to your seperate desks.
“Where have all of you been? Lisbon been looking for you-” Your disgruntled coworker Cho bunbards you and Rigsby with questions on your whereabouts but stops himself. Mainly taking in Rigsbys not so subtle current condition Cho just sighs.
“You're all gross.” Cho just shakes his head and gets back to the work he was doing before he got distracted by you and Rigsby. “When Lisbon fires you all I want to be there.” That makes you laugh but Rigsby looks a little sheepish, maybe because of the lipstick that didnt get all the way wiped off. Who knows.
You do know that this is probably the best possible outcome you or Rigsby couldve planned. When you see a red headed agent and a blond consultant make their way to the office area conveniently together you have to stop yourself from laughing. Patrick gives you a warm smile though that you match immediately.
The man walks behind you and plops down on his couch with a content sigh. The tightness in your chest coming from all the uncertainty you have about what your relationship with Patrick involves flows away when you see him.
“Hello Y/n,” Patrick's voice is smooth and you can’t help but relax. Because it was going to be ok, like Patrick said. Stupid rules have never stopped him before.
Summary: When the CBI team starts teasing Patrick Jane and Y/N L/N about their undeniable chemistry, Patrick finds himself spending more time making her laugh than solving cases. From playful arguments over tea and stolen fries to a disastrous charity gala and a cozy power outage at the office, their friendship slowly blossoms into something more. Filled with witty banter, quiet moments, and Patrick's trademark charm, this fluffy romance follows two people who discover that the happiest days are often the simplest ones—especially when they're spent together. 💘
If there was one thing the California Bureau of Investigation could agree on, it was this:
Patrick Jane was impossible.
He stole people's lunches. He wandered off in the middle of briefings. He ignored protocol with almost artistic dedication. And somehow... Y/N L/N was the only person who could keep up with him. Nobody knew how. Least of all, Patrick.
"You've got exactly four seconds." Patrick looked up from the couch in Lisbon's office without moving an inch. "Four seconds until what?"
Y/N stood over him, arms folded, looking thoroughly unimpressed. "Until I drink your tea." Patrick sat upright so fast he nearly dropped his porcelain cup. "You wouldn't." "I absolutely would."
"It has honey in it." "I know." "You hate honey." "I hate waiting." Patrick narrowed his eyes. "You bluff."
Without another word, Y/N reached for the cup. Patrick yelped. Actually yelped. "Fine!" He scrambled off the couch. "I'm coming."
Lisbon watched him practically jog out of the office. She blinked. Then looked at Cho. "...Did she just make Patrick Jane hurry?"
Cho nodded once. "Yes." "I've been trying for five years." The secret wasn't complicated. Y/N had simply learned Patrick's language.
If she ordered him to do something... He'd ignore her. If she gave him a logical explanation... He'd find a loophole. If she threatened paperwork... He'd disappear. But threaten his tea? Immediate compliance.
The team found it endlessly entertaining.

"How'd you figure him out?" Rigsby asked one afternoon. Y/N shrugged. "I watched him." "That's it?" "He acts like a giant cat." Everyone stared.
"You can't force a cat to do anything." Cho nodded thoughtfully. "Accurate." "You redirect it."
Patrick walked into the bullpen just in time to hear the last sentence. "I'd like everyone to know I resent being compared to a cat." Y/N smiled innocently. "So you're saying you don't knock things off desks because you're curious?"
"..." "You don't disappear whenever someone says 'paperwork?'" "..." "You don't insist on sleeping in sunny spots?" Patrick looked around hopefully. "Can someone help me?" Nobody did.

Two weeks later... The CBI attended a charity gala. Naturally, Patrick hated every second of getting ready.
"Ties are tiny prisons." "They're fabric." "They're symbolic."
Y/N sighed as Patrick attempted—for the fourth time—to tie his tie into what resembled an elaborate knot sailors might use. "You've somehow made it worse." "I disagree." "You've created a new geometric shape." "It has character."
She laughed. "Come here." Patrick obediently stepped closer. "You always smell like tea." "It's my natural scent." "No."
She reached up and untangled the disaster he'd created.
"You spill tea on yourself at least twice a day." "It's part of my charm." "That's one word for it." Patrick watched her fingers expertly fix his tie. She was standing close enough that he could count the tiny flecks of colour in her eyes.
Close enough to notice the way she bit the inside of her cheek whenever she concentrated. Close enough to... "...You're staring." He blinked. "I am."
"You usually hide it better." "I got distracted." She smiled softly. "I'm aware."

When they arrived at the gala, Lisbon immediately regretted bringing Patrick.
Within ten minutes...He had convinced a wealthy businessman he'd accidentally switched watches with another guest.
Started an argument between two politicians over poker. Won three hundred dollars in a charity auction without actually bidding. And somehow acquired a chocolate fountain skewer.
Lisbon pinched the bridge of her nose. "Y/N." "Yes?" "Your boyfriend." "He isn't my—" "Go get him."
Patrick was standing by the dessert table explaining probability to an utterly confused socialite. Y/N walked over. "You've been unleashed for exactly twenty-two minutes." "I've been delightful." "You've started two minor incidents." "They'll become funny stories."
"You stole strawberries." "They were abandoned." "They were on someone's plate." "They looked lonely." She couldn't help laughing. Patrick grinned triumphantly. "There it is." "What?" "The laugh." "You caused it." "I know."
"It's dangerous that you're proud of that." "Oh, I'm exceptionally proud." As the evening continued, the ballroom orchestra began playing slower music.
Couples drifted toward the dance floor. Patrick watched them quietly. "You dance?" Y/N looked surprised. "A little." "Hm." "What does that mean?" "It means..." He offered his hand. "I'd like to see." She looked at his hand. Then at him. "You?" "I do know how."
"I've never seen evidence." "I contain multitudes." "You also tripped over a rug yesterday." "It attacked me." "The rug attacked you." "It came out of nowhere." She laughed again before placing her hand in his. "One dance." "Excellent."
Patrick Jane was, annoyingly... An incredible dancer. Of course he was. "You've done this before." "A few times." "A few?" "I may have attended events far fancier than this." "You continue to surprise me." "I try."
He guided her effortlessly across the floor. No tricks. No jokes. No pretending. Just...Patrick. "You know..." He said quietly. "I like this version of you."
She tilted her head. "What version?" "The one that laughs." "I laugh all the time." "Not like this." He smiled. "Not where it's completely genuine."
Her expression softened. "You notice that?" "I notice everything."
Across the room...Rigsby elbowed Cho. "They're dancing." "I can see." "They're definitely dating." "They're definitely not." "You sure?" Cho watched Patrick smile in a way he rarely smiled around anyone else. "...No."

After the gala, the team stopped for late-night burgers. Patrick declared fries tasted better if stolen from someone else's plate. Y/N slapped his hand away before he could steal hers. "No." "Sharing is caring." "This is theft." "Borrowing." "You never return them." "They're digested."
Cho looked up from his food. "That's worse." When everyone finished eating, Lisbon went to pay. Only... The cashier smiled. "Oh." "The gentleman already covered everyone."
Lisbon frowned. "What gentleman?" The cashier pointed. Patrick was already halfway outside. Hands in his pockets. Whistling innocently. "You paid?" Patrick shrugged. "We had a successful case."
"You didn't have to." "I wanted to." "You paid for six people." "I can count." Y/N smiled. "You really are impossible." "I've heard that." "You know..." She bumped his shoulder. "...thank you."
Patrick looked sideways at her. "I like taking care of people." "You don't always let people take care of you." His smile became smaller. "...I'm learning."

A few days later... Rain poured over Sacramento. The power flickered throughout the CBI building before disappearing entirely. The bullpen erupted into groans. "No computers?" "No lights?" "No coffee?"
Patrick looked positively delighted. "This is marvellous." Lisbon glared. "No." "It forces everyone to socialize." "I don't want to socialize."
Someone found an old deck of cards. Another agent produced board games from a forgotten cabinet.
Within minutes...The entire office had become strangely cozy. Rain tapped against the windows. Flashlights lit the room.
Patrick sat cross-legged on the floor teaching Y/N an obscure card game he'd learned decades ago. "You cheated." "I adapted." "You hid three cards." "I preserved options." She laughed.
"You are unbelievable." "I've been practicing."

Hours passed. The rain never stopped. People drifted home one by one. Eventually... Only Patrick and Y/N remained. The emergency lights cast everything in soft amber. Quiet. Comfortable.
"You know..." Patrick said. "I don't actually mind power outages." "No?" "They remind people to slow down." She nodded. "I suppose they do."
"You spend your whole life rushing toward tomorrow." He looked out at the rain. "But sometimes..." He smiled softly. "...today's enough." Y/N studied him. Most people saw Patrick Jane as loud. Chaotic. Unpredictable.
She saw...The quiet moments. The thoughtful ones. The man who noticed lonely strangers. Who secretly paid restaurant bills. Who always remembered birthdays but pretended he forgot. Who smiled brightest when everyone around him was happy.
She reached over and nudged his shoulder. "You've gone all philosophical." "It happens occasionally." "I'm writing this down." "Please don't." "I'm framing it." "That's emotional blackmail."
The lights suddenly flickered back on. The office buzzed to life. Computers beeped. Phones rang. Everything became noisy again. Patrick sighed dramatically. "I liked the dark." "You only liked it because nobody could make you work." "That is a vicious accusation." "It's an accurate one."
He smiled. "Walk you to your car?" "You don't even have a car." "I'll walk back." "In the rain?" "I enjoy dramatic exits." "You really don't." "No." "I hate getting wet." She laughed. "I know."
🫖🫖🫖🫖
The rain had slowed to a gentle drizzle. Streetlights reflected across the pavement. Neither of them hurried. "You know..." Patrick said after a comfortable silence. "I've had a wonderful day." "We worked." "Yes." "We questioned suspects." "Mhm." "You nearly got us thrown out of a gala."
"A minor misunderstanding." "You stole fries." "They were excellent." "And sat in the dark for three hours." Patrick smiled. "Exactly." She looked at him curiously. "That was a wonderful day?" "It was with you."
The words slipped out so naturally that neither of them realized what he'd said until the silence settled. Y/N looked up at him. Patrick blinked. "...Well." "Well?" "I appear to have accidentally confessed something."
She smiled so brightly it made his heart skip. "I was wondering how long that would take." "You knew?" "You once brought me coffee." "I've brought you coffee lots of times." "You remembered the exact way I liked it after I'd only mentioned it once." "...Oh."
"You also pretend not to like hugs." "I don't." "You absolutely do." "I tolerate specific hugs." "You leaned into the last one." "I was... off balance." She laughed. "There it is again." "What?" "My favourite sound."
The rain continued to fall softly around them. Patrick looked at her with that familiar warmth that always seemed to chase away the worst parts of the day. "So..." He asked. "Dinner tomorrow?" "We have work." "After work."
"We'll probably have another case." "After the case." "You really don't give up." "I've found it's generally a poor strategy."
She pretended to think about it for a moment before slipping her hand into his. "I suppose I can make time." Patrick looked down at their joined hands. Then back at her. His grin was so genuine, so boyish, that it made him look years younger.
For once, the great Patrick Jane had no clever observation, no trick, no witty comeback. Just quiet happiness. And somehow...

Patrick Jane has been your co-worker for five months now. You were fully smitten by him just one week in—meaning that the past four months and seven days were torture.
Having a crush was one thing, but having a crush that happened to be working at the same place as you was another. His presence invaded your space everywhere.
A crime scene? Jane was there. Your desk? Jane was there. The kitchenette? Jane was there. The rooftop? Jane was there. A randomly selected food truck outside? Jane was there.
It didn't take long for you to decide that things needed to change. This either meant that you would have to move your ass back and work somewhere else, or you ignored your feelings, or you acted on them.
Everyone that knew you would've assumed you'd pick the first or second option, but you felt bold. Maybe it was the energy of the full moon or whatever cocktail you had downed 40 minutes before making this decision, it didn't matter. You had chosen to approach Jane with a goal in mind the next time you'd see him. If you managed to flirt with him, your goal was reached, and if a dinner, relationship and marriage followed, you wouldn't complain.
The only problem was that you didn't factor in the possibility of your attraction being one sided, because apparently it was.
You had managed to step out of your comfort zone and compliment Jane. It was only something small, nothing actually worth pointing out, but you had done it anyway. If you didn't show interest in him, you could wave your dinner plans goodbye.
Over the next few days, flattering Jane became your only purpose.
His “fluffy” hair, his “crisp” suit, his “pretty” smile, his “comforting” scent.
Reactions were something you rarely received. On occasion, he chuckled or even shot something back that made you smile, but it was never a lot.
Jane's appearance remained the same throughout the time, but that didn't keep you from finding new things to swoon about. After all, you were an artist and he was your painting.
Your harmless compliments turned into something more when you became aware of how your intention didn't pass through with this method. So, you changed it up and started flirting with him. Not directly, but surely enough for Jane to notice and play along.
A scene that was vividly stuck in your memory was what you liked to call “the poker incident”:
It had been a rather slow day at work. You had been bored, just like Jane. Instead of growing the word count of your report, you had decided to pass your time differently. To be fair, it wasn't your idea. Jane had followed you when you got up to walk a bit and suggested poker.
“I can't play poker.”
“Don't worry. I'll teach you.”
“What’s on the table?”
“Anything you want.”
“Well, you won't need a chair then.”
Your own words still haunted you. What the fuck were you even thinking? Oh right, the prize was anything you wanted, so your smart ass took things too literally and said he'd need to be on the table.
Jane had still ended up teaching you the rules, which had left your head before you even started the first round. What you do remember from that afternoon is how you were smiling and blushing like a teenager in love. Considering you left that phase about a decade ago made you question your mental age. Personal reminder for you to tap in on some quiz sites.
Recalling this memory made you cringe, but sadly you knew it didn't stop there.
You had been showering Patrick Jane with affection, whether that was through talking, touching or gifting; you managed to put your full attention on him. Obviously, you didn't overdo it, just enough to stick out and hopefully get him to notice you in that way.
Keeping up this method that went against your whole personality was hard, but not getting your desired response made it even worse. While it seemed to amuse Jane whenever you made a move on him, he never reciprocated, which is why you had decided to stop trying. Clearly, he didn't like you the way you liked him, and all your desperate attempts of building something unreachable made you look like a fool.
Moving on felt weirdly freeing. Your mind wasn't so dead set on this one option anymore and allowed your view to expand. The timing was perfect as well, because you had found yourself talking to a good-looking stranger just a few days later.
Alex was polite, sweet and undeniably into you. You had immediately clicked. No wonder it didn't take long for him to ask you out for a date. After one success, followed two more, and you'd come to call Alex your boyfriend.
The fourth date was knocking on your door by now.
Going to the movies hadn't been his idea, it was a compromise. He had enthusiastically told you about this live venue downtown you couldn't attend to due to work. There was an ongoing case that needed your full attention, but you still wanted to do something right after you left.
You could've just gotten takeout, but after looking at bloodied up bodies all day, you didn't feel that hungry. Cinemas were still airing their night screenings, and since you were keen on watching the new movie “Shutter Island”, you were happy about this opportunity.
When you had told Alex about the change of plans, he had encouraged you to take your time and that everything was fine. He’d matched your excitement about the movie and announced that he would pick you up at eight.
The moment the clock hit 7:55, you turned off your computer and threw your jacket around yourself. A quiet goodnight to the few souls, who still stayed, was all you mumbled before you left the bullpen.
You quickly made your way over to the elevator that would soon reveal Alex. A content smile decorated your face, as you tapped your shoes to a non-existent beat. You were quietly humming a tune, when you could hear footsteps coming up behind you.
“Are you leaving?” Jane asked, making you turn around to face him.
“Yeah, I am,” you replied and nodded. “You should probably do the same, it's getting late.”
Jane looked down at the watch around his wrist and frowned. “You're right. I didn't notice how much time had passed already.” He clapped his hands once and grinned at you. “Let's get something to eat.”
“Uh, actually I can't,” you admitted and shot him a sheepish smile.
Before Jane could ask why you didn't have time, the elevator chimed and Alex stepped out.
“Oh, hi,” he greeted and hugged you. “Thought I'd have to drag you away from your desk.”
You jokingly glared at him. “Real funny.”
Moving out of Alex’s arms allowed you to take in Jane's expression. You had never seen him like this before—not like he looked sad, but maybe a little disappointed? You had turned fast enough to catch how his eyebrows lifted for a second, but he covered it when his eyes met yours.
“Jane, this is Alex. Alex, Jane,” you introduced them to each other, moving your hand left to right and right to left.
Alex instantly offered his hand, which Jane reluctantly accepted. “Nice to meet you,” Alex said.
“Mhm,” Jane hummed, carefully taking his hand back and forcing on a smile. “So you're-”
“We are,” you cut him off, slowly growing annoyed by this situation. “Good night, Jane.” You grabbed your boyfriend’s arm and pulled him towards the elevator, not gracing Jane with one more glance. You stepped into the elevator and prayed that the doors would close fast. You had to get out of here.

Piña Colada, Margarita, Paloma.
That was the order you gave the bartender a few minutes ago. Now, you were balancing those cocktails back to the booth you were sitting at, praying you wouldn't stumble over nothing again. It was a rare occasion for Grace, Teresa and you to have drinks together, which is why you had to ensure their safety over your own.
Usually, your girls’ night out took place at a café, restaurant or one of your homes. Bars were reserved for extremely urgent times, just like today.
When you emerged from the mass and were almost in reach, Teresa spotted you and got up to help. “Here, let me get those,” she offered, taking her and Grace's drink from your hands, leaving you with your Piña Colada.
You set it down on the table and slid into the booth after your boss, sighing as you hit the cushion.
“A toast?” Grace inquired almost nervously. The reason you were out for drinks wasn't due to an event that needed celebration—quite the opposite actually.
“Sure. To us, for keeping the team alive,” you dead panned and clinked your glass with the other women.
The taste of cold and creamy pineapple wrapped around your tongue, followed by a smooth tinge of alcohol. You weren't much of a drinker, but to your recurring surprise, it always helped to calm you down. Paired with the ice cubes, it really worked a charm to cool you down.
You set down your glass, only to be met with two pairs of curious eyes. While you were hoping that they wouldn't ask, you knew it was unlikely they'd just drop it. You might’ve not been the one to suggest this little trip, but you had definitely been the reason.
“You know, I really don't wanna push, but why did you break up with Alex?” Grace asked, voice soft but accompanied with a hint of nosiness.
“It just wasn't meant to be.”
“Clearly,” she muttered under her breath, which earned her a slap on the arm.
Teresa chuckled at your behavior. “You know, if he did anything concerning, we can always arrest him,” she joked.
You couldn't help but smile at her attempt to lighten up your mood. Apparently, she succeeded.
“Alright,” you groaned. “But first of all, I didn't break up with him and neither did he. We just decided that this wouldn't work.”
“Because?” Teresa encouraged you to go on.
“We realized we weren't each other's type. He discovered something about himself while we were dating and it didn't pair well with me being a woman.”
Both of your friends remained quiet, and you didn't dare to look up. If you did, you would only see how hard they were trying to hold in their laughs.
“You're telling me you started dating again after a year and it happened to be a closeted gay man?” Grace checked to see if she heard right. The humongous grin matched her amused voice, and when you turned to Teresa, she wore the exact same expression.
“He looked straight to me!” You defended yourself, waving your hands to emphasize your statement.
Your helpless state was what finally triggered the other two to laugh. While they tried to show some courtesy by covering their mouths, the volume was at a peak you've never witnessed before.
“I'm sorry,” Teresa giggled, “but I'm not even surprised.”
“Hey, what's that supposed to mean?”
Grace seemed to know the answer. “It's just that you attract people that… you know?” You shook your head. “People that are unavailable.”
“A one-time thing won't make this a norm,” you protested.
“Sure, but it wasn't,” Teresa countered, ready to recall all your situationships. “A different sexual orientation might be new, but you remember that weirdo who ended up cheating on you with your cousin, don't you? And the undercover stripper?”
“Not to forget about Jane,” Grace chimed in, making you turn your head instantly.
“What about him?”
“Come on, you've been making googly eyes at him ever since you started here,” she explained, rolling her eyes at how obvious it was.
“No, I haven't!” You felt your cheeks beginning to redden.
“Uh, yes you have,” Grace said like it was the most evident thing ever.
You looked to your left, giving Teresa your best puppy eyes in hopes of her help. The redhead did the same as you, which left your boss in an unfortunate situation. Both of you wanted her support, but only one would get it.
“I never paid attention to that,” she finally stated, dodging a real answer and therefore taking a side.
“Boss-” Grace started and cut herself off. She must've noticed how desperately convincing she tried to become. “When we were investigating that baseball case, Jane got hit. He was unconscious and you,” she recalled and turned to face you, “were by his side the whole time after. Making sure he's fine and all.”
“It could've been serious! These balls hit hard. What if no one checked and he ended up getting amnesia or something?”
Grace turned back to look at Teresa. Her inner eyebrows were raised and her mouth was open. Her facial expression was almost exaggerated, but it made sure that everyone knew how horrified she was that her opinion wasn't getting its recognition.
“Teresa, please.”
“Teresa, don't listen to her. She's literally just pulling something out of thin air.”
“I don't know,” the brunette admitted, rubbing her forehead. “It's pretty vague.”
You smirked, enjoying your little triumph, but clearly Grace wasn't about to let go.
“Okay, wait, I have more,” she said, tilting her head and holding eye contact with you. She almost looked dangerous like this. Apparently proving her theory right seemed to be very important to her.
“When Jane was in prison because of Bosco’s files, one person always tried their hardest to visit and call.”
“I visited him just as much as Cho,” you looked over at Teresa, “and you.”
“Maybe, but no one besides you actually wanted to see him. We all thought he got what he deserved,” Grace continued.
She propped her arms on the table and folded her hands. Her expression didn't change, it only appeared smugger. She knew she was debunking all your arguments.
“So what? I thought he went too far as well, but that's no reason for letting him rot in prison.”
Something moved to your left and you knew it was Teresa’s time to talk now.
“You knew he wouldn't be in there long though. I actually do remember that you explicitly sought out contact. I was impressed by how you handled your anger then, because I was fuming.” She laughed as she thought back to this.
You buried your face in your hands to prevent them from seeing your tomato-like head. A muffled groan could be heard, getting chuckles in response. Finally, you decided to drop the act. They knew anyway.
You came out of your makeshift shield, crossing your arms over your chest to protect the remainder of your dignity.
“Whatever.”
“Whatever what?” Grace teased.
“I had a crush on Jane, okay? I might’ve been too dedicated to it, but I moved on. As you can see, we're here because of my ex.”
“What if you lied to us and you actually broke up with Alex because he wasn't a blonde, middle aged man with mind reading abilities?” Teresa theorised, nudging your elbow jokingly.
“Ha, ha,” you bit back.
“Are you seriously done with him? I always thought you'd make a cute couple.” Grace's silly expression was replaced by curiosity.
“I… want to be, at least,” you replied, mood dropping a little. “I don't think he likes me. Not in that way, I mean.”
No one said anything, which made your head turn up, just in time to catch them exchanging looks.
“What?” you cluelessly asked.
“Sweetie, for an agent you're kind of oblivious,” Teresa whispered, squeezing your hand while suppressing her laugh.
You furrowed your brows and switched your gaze from her to Grace, trying to figure out what they were getting at.
“I'm like almost fully sure that me and him won't be happening.”
“Yeah, if you don't make it happen,” Grace said, a smile still evident on her face.
“I tried to.”
“Oh yeah, we noticed, don't worry,” she replied.
“Then why are you saying I have to keep going? It's been months.”
“He never would've made the first move. At least not until something came in the way, like a boyfriend for example. I can imagine that he'll shoot his shot now that he knows you're not as available anymore,” Grace explained.
“There's no reason for him to “shoot his shot” if he's not interested in me anyway,” you grunted, not understanding why they kept on going.
“He's been acting different the past weeks,” Teresa noted. “Sometimes he looked up like he expected something to happen. I'm pretty sure he's gotten used to whatever you always said to him. He's so bored now,” she complained.
“I think he's been missing your attention,” Grace said, agreeing with Teresa’s previous statement.
“Missing my attention doesn't exactly equal loving me,” you argued.
“Might be a sign though,” Teresa countered and shrugged.
“I think something’s gonna happen,” Grace said earnestly. “It's easy to tell you're his favourite and-”
“Explain how,” you interrupted. What were they seeing that you weren't?
“He never lies to you.”
You paused and thought for a moment. She was right, he never did. Usually, Jane was throwing out sweet little lies every other hour, but they never targeted you. One of his flaws was being a liar, so making an exception for you has to mean something, right?
“Look, we're gonna be back at work on Monday. I think he'll approach you about your ex. You can tell him that you broke up and boom—date with Jane! I'm betting on it,” Grace told you enthusiastically.
“Seriously?”
“Yeah! Ten dollars say that he's gonna ask you out.”
“I'm in too,” Teresa said, her calm voice a stark contrast to Grace's.
“So twenty for me as compensation if my hopes get destroyed once again?”
“Basically.”
“Alright, let's do it.”
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
The first day of the week was almost over at this point. Your eight hours of work had been completed, which meant you could finally go home and relax.
As you had expected, Jane never made a move. You weren't disappointed since you had already counted on getting that bag, but the last bit of hope you had was crushed. The promised 20 dollars would help to get your mood up again, but you were playing fair and therefore waited until tomorrow. Grace's bet applied for all 24 hours of the day, not just the first 19.
You made no rush of packing your stuff and turning everything that flickered off. Nobody was waiting for you, so there was no reason to hurry up.
You threw on your brown leather jacket and let your hair down, ready for the chilly fall air. The matching bag was lying on the floor. You remembered discarding it when you needed space for your paperwork. You bent down to pick it up and slung it over your shoulder.
Everybody else had already left and being the last one came with duty. You walked over to the exit and turned off the lights after checking if all windows were closed. A slight breeze wouldn't hurt the room, but leaving the windows open basically called for burglaries. Being a cop—and someone with life experience in general—taught you as much.
When your check through was completed, you strolled to the elevator and pressed the button. It didn't take long for it to chime and signalize you to get in, but just as you were about to leave, someone called your name.
You were hit with a feeling of Déjà vu when you saw that Patrick Jane was the person who made you turn around. Is your new boyfriend gonna step out of the elevator now?
“Jane? I was about to leave.”
You crossed your arms over your chest and raised your eyebrows, waiting to hear the reason for this.
“Yeah, I saw that,” he replied and smirked, finally making a stop a few feet in front of you.
“Mhm. Making sure I get home safe then?” You asked, copying that grin of his.
“If you want me to,” he offered. “But I actually came to catch up with you. We haven't exactly been talking a lot these past days.”
“We usually never do on weekends.”
“The weekdays have been quiet as well,” he countered.
You raised an eyebrow and tilted your head a little. The grin had left your face and was replaced by a serious look.
“Jane. You seriously wanna know what I've been up to? I can tell you it's pretty boring.”
“I like boring.”
You didn't make a move of telling him anything, so he prompted it himself.
“Didn't you go out with Grace and Lisbon?”
You shot him a confused look. While he basically knew everything, you still wondered how he gathered that information. As if he could read your mind, he answered your question.
“Oh, I heard Rigsby talk about it,” he explained and shrugged it off. “Did you enjoy it?”
Weirdly enough, Jane's interest felt real. You didn't remember him ever asking you about your days, but apparently, there's a first for everything.
“Yeah, I did. We went to a bar and talked about catching up with each other, you know?”
“You don't usually go to bars.”
It wasn't a question or an assumption—he was making a statement.
“That's right. We prefer quiet nights. There's usually enough going on at work.”
“I'm assuming bars are reserved for special occasions then.”
You nodded, resulting in him looking at you expectantly.
“What was the reason?”
“Don't you already know that?”
“You broke up with your boyfriend.”
“Yup.”
“Sorry.”
You locked your eyes on his to see if he was being honest. A few seconds were enough to see that he wasn't, which surprised you. Why would he lie about that?
“No, you're not.”
Jane looked down at his shoes and smiled sheepishly. When his gaze fell back on your face, he nodded.
“You're right. I'm not.”
“Oh. How come?” you asked, moving closer to him.
“I missed our interaction. You stepped away a month ago and now it feels different.”
“You miss my awful attempts at trying to build a connection?” you questioned.
Jane chuckled and gave you a nod, followed by a soft “I do.”
“Well, that's unexpected. They made me feel like a fool, especially ‘cause I wasn't achieving anything with them,” you confessed, suddenly growing shy.
“I thought it was cute,” he admitted, smiling at you before adding “but unnecessary.”
Your head shot up, allowing Jane to take in your extremely furrowed brows. You were either not following the conversation correctly, or Jane just revealed that your crush had been mutual after all.
“Do you want to get dinner?”
His voice was soft and his expression serious.
“I don't understand,” you breathed, confusion growing larger.
“I don't want to appear insensitive—I am sorry that you broke up with Alex, but I can't wait any longer,” Jane began, taking your hands in his.
“I enjoyed your attention because it showed me that you felt the same. I didn't have to guess and you didn't play pretend, but I still managed to miss my chance. I'm sorry for making you wait that long, and I'm sorry for the timing. I just can't risk losing this opportunity again.”
His eyes never left yours and his hands gently held yours, sharing his warmth. There was a hint of regret written on his face, accompanied by a hopeful glint in his ocean colored iris.
He left you speechless.
As you had told your friends, you were actively forcing yourself to be over Jane, just for him to explain his feelings for you sometime later. You were irritated and didn't fully understand his reasoning behind this, but you were incredibly happy.
After a few more seconds of staring at his unfairly handsome visage, you finally found access to talking again.
“It only took me getting a boyfriend for you to confess this?”
The blonde man laughed and dropped his head. The sound was addicting and contagious, causing you to smile.
“I'd love to get dinner with you,” you giggled, squeezing his hands once.
“You would?”
His eyes widened and a bright smile appeared on his face.
“Yeah.”
As the two of you left the building, you made a mental note to start saving money the coming days. After all, you owed your friends 20 dollars now.

And Cho's part talks about the act of sex, Grace's part talks or maybe just hints at - I can't tell - about feederism. And maybe a little bit of sub/dom feel with Grace. Also there might be typos. Patrick Jane
Oh, Jane thinks women of all sizes are stunning. He adores women and thinks any woman carries some sort of beauty within her.
But a woman that's a little bigger and is all plush and warmth? Now that's something he secretly drools over late at night.
He's never really dated a plus size woman, because back when he was a fake psychic, he wasn't really a good person...
He was prejudiced, snobby, and just not really as kind as he made himself appear. So, you're his first plus size woman, which means... that he's quite eager to try things...
Mainly he wonders about how it feels to have you on top of him, squeezing him with your body and putting that satisfying feeling of pressure on his own body.
And Jane is Jane, which means that if he's curious about something, he'll explore it. So, rather soon into your relationship, he'll be trying to get you to sit on top of him.
And regardless of whether or not you refuse out of fear of crushing him, he'll have you straddling him, your plush thighs squeezing around his waist, your warm core pressed against his clothed length, in about a week - he'd make you agree much sooner if he wanted to, but he likes a little thrill and chase, a little... edging, if you will.
And let me tell you, he could get drunk on the feeling of when you plop down on top of him with all your weight.
The pressure of your body pressing against him, and your warm plush almost attempting to merge with his own body, is just so stimulating to his ever-bored brain.
Jane especially loves when your huge thighs are at his sides, caging him in, and he can lean back, look up into your eyes with a lazy smile while his hands rest at the crook of where your upper thighs meet your stomach, right where he can feel the hem of your underwear.
But in that position, he also loves cupping your waist with his warm hands, his fingers digging into your plump skin from the back while his thumbs press and rub into it from the front.
But because Jane is Jane, this intimacy also includes teasing. A thing Jane specifically does when he has you like this is slide one of his hands under your shirt from the back, pressing it into your lower back to make you arch it while he makes direct eye contact and says "Fix your posture, darling. Your back should hurt from other things, not bad posture".
And you should also know that he'll have you sit on top of him at the CBI, in front of the team, absolutely shamelessly.
And if anyone - likely Lisbon - tells him how inappropriate that is, he just gives that smartass, charming smile of his, squeezes you so tight you give a soft yelp, and goes "People casually use weighed plush toys, blankets, and such in public. But when I do it, suddenly it's taboo? What happened to support of emotional support?".
Sometimes Jane has you sit with your back to his chest though, and when that happens, he leans forward, wraps his arms around your midsection and presses his forehead into your shoulder blade - he usually does that when he's had a long day.
But if you end up in this position even despite Jane not feeling drained, he'd rest his chin on your shoulder, or he'd relax with his lips pressed into your shoulder - ideally if you are wearing some tank top or off shoulder shirt that gives him free access to your skin.
But be aware, if your shoulder is revealed, Jane also has the tendency to nip at the skin on that spot, and usually when he nips at your shoulder, he then follows through with a kiss before tracing his lips up your skin til he can give a soft and short suck to your pulse point.
The thing Jane loves the most about you on top of him though, is the fact that you pin him down and he can barely move.
He loves the feeling of being completely trapped under you, unable to wiggle free unless you lift that cute, plump butt - but most of the time, Jane has you sit on him for so long that his lower body ends up going numb, yet, even then, he doesn't want you get off of him.

Teresa Lisbon
Now, Lisbon is the one who has technically had the most experience with plus size women.
One experience was that when she was around 8, she had a chubby female friend who she played house with and even was "married" to.
Another experience was that during high school, Lisbon had a crush on a mid sized girl, but it never really grew into anything more because at that time, Lisbon was focused on getting only the best grades and raising her brothers.
And during college, she shared a night with her plus size classmate - but that was about it.
Yet still, similarly to Jane, she's not properly dated a plus size girl until you came along.
And now that she's gotten with you, a completely brand new guilty pleasure unlocked in her brain - and that is dressing you up.
Now, that doesn't sound dirty, I know, I know, but hold on for a sec and trust me on this.
As the CBI team leader, Lisbon definitely has quite a good pay - she likely makes enough to be able to afford some really good treats for you.
And, her guilty pleasure is picking clothes for you. But it's clothes that you'd most likely not wear in public. I'm talking about quite the risque outfits.
She'd buy you those tight, form fitting outfits that perfectly trace every curve of yours. Or, she'd dress you up in a simple, but see-through dress shirt with a really fancy, lace bra. Or she'd find something that barely covers your intimate parts while the rest of your skin is free and visible.
Her favourite outfits to buy you, though, are definitely those that show off your cute, pudgy belly. Doesn't matter if the outfit is just tight and trails your curves like second skin, or if it's an outfit that is cut in a way to have your belly fully or partly visible. She just loves it and it definitely has her getting some... ideas...
Lisbon buys you things only half of the time though. The other half of the time, she prefers to take you personally to a clothing store and have you try on whatever she picks - and the clothes often don't even get purchased at the end.
And it doesn't need to be anything revealing. To Lisbon, seeing you in something that compliments your figure is arousing enough. Oftentimes, these little shopping trips last only for a little because Lisbon gets so hot and bothered that if she weren't so composed and controlled, she'd take you right in the changing room.
But she knows how to control herself, so, most of the time, she just watches you try walking in the outfit she picked, tells you to turn around for her so that she can see you from all angles and see how the outfit hugs you just so right that each tiny movement you make shows off how your squishy body wiggles a little.
And then, later, when you're standing by the mirror, checking how you look, she approaches and her dominant hand lightly raises to trace your curves before setting her cold palm across your love handle and leaning to your ear, muttering "You look good...".
But that isn't all just yet - because Lisbon also really likes outfits that have some accessories attached to them, and/or have a zipper on the back.
She doesn't know a better feeling than cramming herself into the tiny changing room with you, barely having enough room to move without skin on skin contact with you, and then fixing a tie, a bow or just something on your outfit as an excuse to touch you.
And when she zips ups your tight fitting dress or clips some buttons on the back of your outfit, her hands touch you so lightly that it tickles and it's more of a ghost of a touch rather than a needy grab full of passion even despite how much the closure sets her core on fire.
And you'll definitely be begging her with your eyes to take you right then and there during these moments - and her brain will too. And who knows, maybe the by-the-book Lisbon will cave at some point and give you quite the shopping experience...

Kimball Cho
Cho is an interesting one. He doesn't really care about the size of his woman. He'll love you regardless of how you look, if you're his woman, you're his woman and that's just it.
Don't be misled though, Cho can definitely appreciate a bigger woman. He's the kind of guy to say that being with a big woman is good because you got something to grab.
He's really disciplined and stoic, and focused on his job though, so Cho likely doesn't go around having a fling after fling, hence the closest he's been to a plus size woman would be when he's talked to that cute chubby barista at the cafe downtown that he's frequented at some point.
But like I've said, Cho is the kind of guy to appreciate a pudgy woman because you got something to hold onto - and that's exactly what keeps him going when it comes to you.
To put it simply, Cho is a sucker for holding onto you. While in public he's much more guarded in his affection and need for you, at home he's constantly touching you with his hands in some way.
For example, when you're at your shared flat, sitting on the couch together, Cho pressing the buttons on the TV remote to pick something the two of you could watch, his free hand is rested on your thigh, his fingers pressing and massaging into your skin in a repetitive motion.
His touch tends to be quite firm and strong - Cho hits the gym regularly after all - and the way he touches you, even during something as simple as couching, is enough to get your blood running. But Cho doesn't even blink, fully focused on the TV even if you whine to him.
Or another example would be when he takes you to a private gym session with him under the guise that you can watch him work out, and then he'll either ask you if you wanna join him or he asks you to pass him some sort of equipment.
And then, when you try some exercise or if you try to pass him the thing he asked for, you end up with an incorrect posture, and he immediately jumps in to correct you as an excuse to touch you.
Like, he'll come over to you, grab you by the hips with those big, warm hands of his and try to correct you - but he'll go about it slow, his voice purring into your ear as he instructs you on how the thing is done, and he makes sure to deliver a really hard, intense squeeze of your hips with his hands.
And don't get me started on in-bed intimacy. Because let me tell you - to Cho, gripping onto you while you're getting dirty in the sheets is an absolute must.
He absolutely adores when he gets to be on top of you, his calloused hands gripping so tight onto your plush hips that it sends pain through your body, and he's pounding into you with all his strength, making your cute, soft plush bounce with every delivered thrust of his. He loves how he can so easily make your plump body move.
But gripping onto you while being on top of you isn't his #1 position to pleasure you. His most favourite position is having you in his arms, your legs wrapped around his waist while he props you against the wall, and he gets to dig his fingers into your huge thighs to support your weight as he pounds his length into your wet core - and don't worry, Cho is a pro at heavy lifting, so lifting you up isn't something that would frighten him.
A lot of times, after your sex sessions, you'll end up with crescent shaped marks or hand shaped bruises on your body - usually your thighs, hips and waist, and sometimes your ribs.
Post sex, Cho's favourite activity is laying in bed with you with one of his hands being rested on your soft, plush stomach and feeling the pudge under his fingers.
Oftentimes, during such moments, his fingers would be kneading your stomach, occasionally giving the pudge a soft pinch for his own satisfaction.
Most of the time, Cho wouldn't say much when he's resting with you like this, but it would be obvious that Cho is fully content and at peace, his world feeling less rugged and cold.
The most Cho says during these moments is a short and simple "you good?" to check if he wasn't too rough with you. And then he just lays there with you, enjoying the feeling of your weight and warmth pressed into his body.
And if he doesn't need to go to work or somewhere else, he'll stay in bed with you for as long as you want and need.
___
Wayne Rigsby
Rigsby is a sweetheart. He's a man who loves you as you are and for who you are, and things like looks are secondary.
He's a little shy, so his experiences with plus size women - or women altogether - are not that big.
He's likely dated a cute plus size girl during high school and he thought he'd marry her, have kids and spend his life with her - but his father had never been a good man, so he likely criticized and bullied Rigsby's date so much that Rigsby was forced to break up with her.
But now he's an adult and rarely in contact with his father - so, he's free to love whoever he wants.
When it comes to you, Rigsby has a really specific obsession - he absolutely can't get enough of seeing you in his clothes. Doesn't matter if it's a random shirt, a hoodie or the dress shirt he wears to work. He's just obsessed.
But if we're being honest, you putting on his dress shirts that he wears to work is definitely the easiest way - technically a shortcut - to have Rigsby flustered, drooling, and... hard.
There's just something about the way that your pudgy body fills out his clothes - especially the way your belly and breasts do. Some clothes of his might not even properly fit you, but even if you tear his shirt a little, he won't mind, he'll proudly wear it with a tear in it.
And speaking of too small clothes - Rigsby is quite addicted to you putting on a shirt of his that's a little too small for you and is so tight on your body that you can't really move without the risk of completely tearing the shirt apart.
You being restrained and trapped in his clothes scratches something in his brain just right. It's a guilty pleasure.
And if there's anything that'd make this even better, it's definitely you wearing his shirt, dress shirt or a jacket with nothing but your panties underneath - yes, no bra involved.
Rigsby loves how your huge breasts just flop without a bra. He finds the look to be natural and arousing.
And if there's anything that keeps Rigsby going, then it's you walking around your shared flat like this - wearing just his shirt and panties, no bra on. That's his absolute drug.
Rigsby knows nothing better than returning home after a long shift, and finding you just waltzing around the place in his worn shirt and a pair of your cute underwear. He also likes the view because your breasts bounce and sway a little as you walk with no bra on.
Oftentimes, this mere view ends up leading to a whole night of shared passion between the two of you. But sometimes, Rigsby just ends up soothed. If he's had a long and particularly rough shift, seeing you dressed like this puts his mind at ease.
During the nights he returns home after a bad case, all that Rigsby craves is to come to you and take ahold of you, hug you tight and feel your plump body pressed into his. And the best part would be getting in bed with you - but not to do the dirty, but rather to just rest with you in his arms.
On the nights he doesn't feel like getting intimate, Rigsby prefers to lay in bed with you. But, a specific thing he does when these moments come around is that he likes to hook a finger under the hem of your underwear. There's no sexual intent behind this, he's just seeking comfort.
And if his shift was especially bad, Rigsby doesn't just tangle your bodies together and rest his hand on you in a way to have one finger attached to your underwear. He also likes to rest his head on your chest and listen to your heartbeat.
And what adds to the soothing factor is... huge breasts. To Rigsby, there's nothing better than coming home after an ugly shift, getting in bed with you and burying the side of his face into your bust, his ear pressed over the spot where your heart is, your breathing pushing his head up and down like calming tides gently rocking a ship.
Grace Van Pelt
Grace is the youngest one on the list. She's gentle and sweet, but desperately wants to prove that she's the right fit for the job.
Due to this, it'd take quite a while for her to end up dating you, because - especially in the earlier seasons - she wants to focus on her career and be taken seriously without unnecessary drama like workplace affair or a nasty breakup.
And yet, she's such a romantic at heart. And though she's never really thought of dating a woman, the moment she saw you, she knew you were the one.
Don't be fooled though, Van Pelt has quite the kinky streak. She's curious and willing to explore a lot. And having a plus size girlfriend definitely opens up a lot of interesting doors for her.
The one thing Grace discovered a love for would be feederism - sounds basic, and of course, not all plus size people eat a lot, but hear me out.
Grace is a natural provider, she's the kind of girl that'd bake a sponge cake and bring it to work for the team just because.
And the idea that she comes home after a long shift, and she gets to wind down by preparing you and feeding you some easy snack is just so cute, but also low-key kinky.
But, Van Pelt's most favourite feeding time would definitely be when she's cooking or baking, and she has you next to her as her personal taster.
She knows nothing better than taking a tea spoon and dipping it into the pot with some soup or a bowl with dough, scooping a little of the substance up and then bringing it to your lips for you to taste her culinary adventure.
There's just something about how you just so obediently open up your mouth the moment she encourages you with just a little press of the spoon against your cute lips.
And she can't help but praise you every time after you take in all she gives you - and if you don't, she encourages you so gently that your knees are turning to jello just from hearing her speak to you that way.
But, the best part would be when a little bit of whatever substance she had you taste ends up staining or dripping down your lower lip.
Because then she has the excuse to touch your cute pudgy face - she always uses one hand to softly cup your full cheeks and tilt your head, while she uses the thumb on her free hand to carefully wipe off the droplet off your lips.
Oftentimes though, Van Pelt would wait for just a moment to have the substance drip down your chin too, because she's secretly a sucker for caressing the soft pudge under your chin - the "double chin" as someone might call it.
But if you think that's not enough, then I'll let you know that Grace doesn't just like to wipe the smear off your face.
Because some days, she does more than that. Some days she can't help it because you're just too sweet looking, and she straight up ends up kissing the droplet off your lips.
And if that's still not enough: here and there she might let the substance drip down your chin, but she don't use her hand to clean your face - she'll use her tongue.
She'll just go ahead and give a slow and long lick to your face, from your chin up to your lips before planting a hungry kiss to your plump lips.
And oftentimes, a single kiss isn't really where this ends...

you wake up to the sound of leaves falling and birds singing. a deep autumn has been around for about a week. parts of your brain almost feel worried about getting late to work but somewhere, it remembers its saturday.
but you also wake up to the feeling of your needy boyfriend grinding his lenght against your now wet cunt, what a day!
"well look who just woke up" he says, voice trembling in neediness. "hi sweetheart" patrick whispers as he starts kissing your face. the position you're in is quite comfortable. you're laying on your back, bare body, and he's resting his head on your chest, or well, was, now he's giving you sloppy sleepy kisses.
"god i've missed you" he says, caressing your hair again. he is very sweet, that's his nature. but when he wants to feel your cunt wrapping him up he just doesn't stop praising you.
your relationship with patrick is now about 2 years old. you know, with little knowledge of psychology (compared to his) that couples after the honeymoon phase that lasts about 3 months, begin to fight.
but you also know that they begin to stop fucking. and at first, this thought made you quite melancholic, because if even one fraction of the times you make love is gone, you wouldn't know how you'd make it through the day.
but let me tell you that patrick has made sure that none of that happened!
your gummy walls are filled with his cock at least two times a day, flesh pounding in and out of you. deep thrusts hitting your G spot, your greedy pussy pulling him in and followed by a sound of satisfaction was a daily scenario.
as you truly wake up now, you switch positions, you're on your side and he couldn't say he isn't a bit dissapointed that you turned around, he misses the contact of your sweet cunt with his warm head. so he turns to the side too, embracing you, getting closer.
"hi" you tell him, sounding almost shy, its really the fact that you just woke up and the sense of dizziness you get when he caresses the curve of your ass with the throbbing tip of his manhood "missed ya too" you say, with all the effort left in you before you close your eyes again.
patrick watched your eyes get sensitive at the contact with the light that came from the window.
"come on love, please, just do it for me I- I need you right now" patrick says, his lenght, leaking with pre cum, traveling unsteadily from the curve of your ass to your clit, his whole body being against you made your desire to wake up incredibly higher, almost inaudible noises came from your mouth, but jane, committed to his job, catches his eye in the little details.
plus, the fact that your boyfriend, who is usually wearing a boyish smile and cocky attitude, is now confessing that he needs you, almost pathetic if someone else were in this scenario. but not to you. to you, it was a work of art; this kind of moments with patrick were your favourite ones. the ones where he let himself be.
"your greed sickens me" you manage to say, hoping he wouldn't notice your smile.
his head, which is now resting up next to yours tilts to the back and does the frown you adore when he thinks "well actually, many philosophers wouldn't agree with you, doll" his hand goes from caressing your lower stomach to caressing your hair, stroking every strand just like you like it "for example, one of my favourites, Diogenes the Cynic, believed that greed begins the moment you-"
and as long as he looked obnoxiously hot when he got all nerdy, your needs made fog on your mind since he started rubbing himself against your dripping hole. your fingers went to his mouth, precious lips smiling at you before closing to pursue one of jane's greatest habilities.
much could think that patrick's greatest skill was noticing every single thing. others may think he actually is a psychic and he can talk with the dead. but patrick's true, perfected with practice (with you) talent was sucking; whether it was your cunt, breasts, fingers, ice cream, whatever, he was just soo good at it.
strings of saliva laving the limbs of your hand, filthy sounds of his tongue wrapping around your fingers made your brainfog grow. you felt like a filthy whore, maybe you were.
you look up at your hand, at him, amused, stupid sleepy grin of satisfaction appearing on your face. why the fuck did the simple action of patrick sucking your fingers turn you on so much? the answer is loud and clear: because its patrick. everything he did kinda turned you on.
"come on doll, how much time am I going to have to beg you to make love to me? hm?" his low tone of voice and cocky grin made your heart skip a beat. his pleading eyes made you take mercy of him (not really, you wanted to jump his bones almost as much as he did)
"well" you say, getting on top of him, he immediately got the picture and he sat up against the bed frame. you align your entrance with his thick and long greediness as you say "you, patrick jane, are a very very lucky guy".
you feel every inch and vein of him filling you, making you feel complete. he tilts his head back, letting it touch the wall and opens his mouth, both in awe of how beautiful you look bouncing on him and how safe and tight you are.
sweet words coming out of his mouth rentlessly, giving time to adjust yourself at the base of his cock. his hands stroke your hair, not pulling, just caressing it. his eyes never leaving yours
"i know you can- gosh- i know you can do this sweetheart. go on. take your time" his words filled with a mix of love and lust, making your knees weaker.
he let his free hand rest on your lower back. and of course this man has to have his mouth ocuppied on something. wheter is talking or sucking or eating. he started alternating between each one of your tits, nibbling your nipples, tasting them and kissing the bruises he left last night around the area. patrick loved kissing you, obviously. but sometimes he'd resist his needs and give himself an extra award, kissing you just after you finished, like something he has to earn by making you feel good and only gets to receive the prize after he pays for it: making you come.
as you start getting your pace back, deliberating slow and deep thrusts, the wet sounds your intimate embrace made, heavy breathing, the matress sounds answering to your movements and the ocasional moans you two made, your cunt started to wrap tighter around him, your pace getting more uneven and faster than before.
"god- patty- i can't take it" a considerate amount of curses were said as you could feel your high aproaching, and so did he.
"you- you're doing so good f'me love. come with me. please" patrick managed to say between whimpers, the hand that once caressed your hair now playing mindlessly with your clit.
you almost scream as you come to your high, patrick's lips muffling the sound with a sweet, hungry kiss. thick ropes of fluids made your bonding feel somehow stronger (and stickier).
tired and heavy breathing started to calm down as he stayed inside of you, now chest to chest, comforting you and stroking your back.
"my girl. you did soo well" you felt kisses all over your face, red and swollen lips continued kissing him.
"oh patty. ew. ew!" a rush of disgust following by one of laughter impacted you as you moved away a liiiittle bit and the fluids you've built up and stored inside of you now re appear on parts of patrick's stomach.
patrick didn't even notice since he was to busy pecking and licking your breasts. "oh no! too bad! now we've got to shower together love!"
"lame. such a laaame excuse ah!"
patrick wastes no time on picking you up, carrying you like a princess (aren't you one in his eyes?) to take a long, heartwarming bath with him. which, if you're not thaaat tired, it will be a commemoration of the events that happened earlier that night.
a/n: wow another written in an evening frenzy unedited patrick jane x reader fic has hit the me blog. inspired by that one whump post i reblogged a bit ago and also my unending love of hurt comfort. enjoy y'all ♥️

It's all gone to shit.
That's an understatment.
You peel your eyes open. Shift your weight every so slowly. Your joints scream in protest. Everything aches. You can feel the splinters of wood on your palms from your attempts at escaping. They're needles to your nerves, pinpricks of white hot pain under your skin; a reminder of pain. Of sensation. Of being alive.
There's that, at least.
Oh, and the gunshot wound in your shoulder that's still bleeding.
You try not to think about if you'll be alive for much longer.
Your head is pounding. Trying to remember the Before of when you were in this room is difficult. Every pathway to any kind of memory slips through your fingers like grains of sand. You have fragments. Laughter. Kind blue-grey eyes. Fiery orange hair. Some kind of mission. They blur, meld together like some kind of dream, of a life before this dark room and the cold air of the night. It's so hard to remember when all you have right now is the rustling of the leaves and the moon.
You shift your weight again. You have no restraints, but the weight of exhaustion are chains enough. The moon's light shines translucent through the curtains. If you could just move them and get your bearings...
You move to get up, face the window - big mistake - you put too much weight on your shoulder and barely manage to stop yourself from falling face-first into the floor. Your world explodes - it's a kaleidoscope of pain that lances up your shoulder and turns every thought in your mind into fog.
You're still reeling until a voice cuts through that haze.
"Hey. If you get in trouble, comm me."
"When am I ever in trouble, Jane?"
Jane. His face flashes behind your closed eyelids. Kind, downturned, blue-grey eyes. Curly blonde hair. Crumpled suit. Warm smile. A gentle touch on your shoulder before you pocketed your walkie-talkie.
You open your eyes - your walkie talkie. He doesn't know where I am.
That lights a small, flickering fire in your chest. You crawl, closer and closer to the window. You raise your hand and grip the bottom of a curtain, wrinkling the floral pattern. Just a bit of -
The curtains part, just slightly. The moon's silvery light - it almost blinds you - peeks through the gap in the curtains and slices through the dusty air. It clears a path, spilling onto cardboard boxes and plastic-covered furniture, leading you right to your walkie-talkie. Something releases in your chest, stokes the flames of hope.
Thrown across the room in a scuffle. You must have sent a message, some kind of cry for help, but you're so alone that you're not sure.
"Oh, never," Jane says. His smile flickers. Serious. "But unexpected occurrences, and all that. You're going in there on your own. Never hurts to be too prepared."
"If there is such a thing." You remember smiling back. "You worried about me, Jane?"
"Eh," he drawls, waves his hand. But stops to look at you - really look at you. "You know that already."
You didn't. You don't think you realized.
The walkie-talkie is so, so slippery in your hands. Fingers trembling, you manage to press down on the button to talk - but your mind is unravelling, the air so cold, only one name manages to tumble out of your shivering lips.
"P-Patrick."
Patrick. Not Jane. Patrick. Like calling him by his name will bring him to you like magic. You're desperate enough to believe it.
You let go of the button - nothing. The sound of the static blends into the faint sound of leaves rustling somewhere outside. The rushing, crackling, silence.
You try again. Fingers slick with blood, you try again. "Patrick," you croak, hoping and hoping that it's him on the other end, that he can hear you at all. Who knows where his walkie talkie even is. It might be tucked at the bottom of a drawer at the CBI, spouting pleas to an empty room as the rest of the team goes looking for you.
They must be looking for you. They have to be. Especially him.
Because the alternative is that they've given up and that can't be true because Patrick Jane would never abandon you.
"Please," you whisper into the reciever. You're not sure if it even picks up. "Patrick-"
There's a breath of your name. Soft, and then louder as it crackles through the speaker of the walkie-talkie.
"...there? Please tell me you're there."
Jane's doesn't often call you by your name, but that doesn't mean he hasn't tried. It doesn't make the way his voice wraps around the syllable of your name sound any less heavenly.
"Say something," he says, his voice low and more serious than you've ever heard before. This is rare, for Jane. "Say something so I know you're alive. I need-"
"I'm here," you groan. You slump onto the floor. There are still needles under your skin and blood pouring out of your shoulder and you feel so fucking cold but you can hear Jane; somehow it all fades into the background. It's just you and him. When you speak again, your voice is thin. "I don't know where I am."
"I know, and I'm coming to get you," Jane replies, without any hesitation. I'm coming to get you. Not we. "Just stay with me."
You lean your head against the wall. Try to breathe. Watch the dust dance in the one beam of moonlight you have. "Okay. I'll try."
"You called me Patrick," Jane says. He's trying to keep his voice light, you can tell. "I'm always trying to get you to call me Patrick. If you wanted to get my attention you didn't have to go and get kidnapped, you know."
"Desperate times... desperate measures," you mumble. The pain really has taken a backseat, the fog rolling in instead. "You called me by my name."
"Desperate times," Jane - no, Patrick - mirrors. His voice is shaking. You want so badly to reach out, to hold him, but he's so far away. Everything is. "Talk to me. Whatever you remember."
It isn't much. "Got shot," you say dully, dimly nothing how the trickle of blood from your shoulder has stopped feeling warm. "Threw me. Hit my head maybe. Hurts. You helped me with that one time."
You can hear the smile in Patrick's voice. "I did. You put your head in my lap."
Impossibly, you manage a chuckle. "Made me do it. Coercion."
"Coercion with good results," he hums.
It's easy to pretend you're back there, on his couch at the CBI, your head in his lap, one of his hands in your hair and the other in yours. Falling asleep looking up at him with his sad, searching blue eyes, that seem to go as deep as the ocean does. Currents carrying you away into deeper and deeper waters. Away from here, and into the deep of his arms instead.
Another call of your name. Sharper this time. Like a plea.
"Talk to me," you hear Jane say. Already so distant, still at the shore. "Don't leave. I'm almost there, don't let go - listen to me, okay? Listen to me."
You're miles away. But Patrick's voice still carries, somehow, over the waves, over the swell of the water that threatens to pull you under.
"I want you to stay with me," he says, his breath quick, voice trembling like you've never heard it before. "Not just awake, but here. With me."
Always, you want to tell him, before you drown under the weight of all your pain.
The distant sound of a car pulling into a driveway. Raised voices. You're sinking.
Until someone drags you out of the water and into the cold night air. Dark hair and green eyes and a soft voice fill your vision, press two fingers to your neck. Lisbon. Her eyes are blown wide, mouth murmuring apologies as she holds you and props you up against the wall.
"In here!" she calls, and you're glad it's her, but where -
Patrick appears from behind her. Falls to his knees beside you. He's shaking and you want to hold him and he's right there - but you can't move. You're still bouyant, floating just on the surface. All you can do is breathe. Ignore the chill creeping onto your skin and seeping into your bones.
"Paramedics are minutes away," Lisbon says, putting a hand on Patrick's shoulder. He's frozen staring at you. "She's going to be okay if you can keep her awake until they get here."
That's when he blinks, as if he's waking up. He creeps closer to you, and suddenly scoops you into his arms. You're getting blood onto his suit. He doesn't seem to care as he wraps his arms around you, letting you lay against his shoulder.
"Hi," Patrick says cooly. Smiles down at you, radiant. As if nothing is wrong. Just like that night in the station. "I missed you."
"Since when?" you croak, and he chuckles, hangs his head low. When he lifts it to look at you, his eyes are brimming with tears.
Patrick doesn't answer the question. Instead he brushes his lips against your forehead as the sirens get closer and closer. "I told you to stay, right?" he whispers, rests his head against your forehead. "I - care about you. I want to keep caring about you. Those good enough reasons to stay?"
It's as good a reason as any, you think, because you care about him too.
(Patrick doesn't let you go until the paramedics arrive, and even when you're allowed to finally sink under and rest, he refuses to let go of your hand. And when you wake, the world blurry still, the first thing you see clearly is his smile.)
Sumary: It was supposed to be a boring desk job, but between Jane’s cryptic tests and his paper-folding habits, she’s starting to realize that "babysitting" is just a fancy word for joining the circus.
Word Count: 1.9 k
Warnings: None, just fluff, fluff, and more fluff... and really, really bad jokes. Based on that one scene of the Elvis stain. Third person narrator but she doesn't have a name (it could be you, my love). A/N and taglist at the end!
<<<The 'Patrick Jane' Materlist
“Wow. There’s a stain on the ceiling that looks like Elvis, but today it looks more like a... basset hound.”
Patrick Jane had a small, persistent habit of thinking out loud—mostly when he assumed he was alone, or when no one was actually listening. Sometimes, he simply pointed things out because a detail struck him, regardless of whether it was appropriate or even relevant. It was all part of his 'charm.'
He was currently sprawled across the camel-colored leather sofa in the bullpen, a piece of furniture he’d claimed as his sovereign territory since his first day at the CBI. He was, for all intents and purposes, alone—except for the new agent tucked away at a desk she was forced to share with Van Pelt until a proper space opened up.
By default, she had been tasked with 'Jane-duty.' Her job was to ensure he didn’t pull any stunts while the rest of the team was in the field, spring a trap for a prime suspect in their current case.
She let out a long, jagged sigh. It was the third time this week she’d been benched to watch him. And while she didn't exactly hate the man, she wanted to be out there, in the heat of the action, not buried under a mountain of paperwork with a man who, despite her silent prayers, seemingly didn't know how to shut up.
"And?" she asked, not even bothering to look up. Her voice was flat, draped in boredom.
Jane turned to her, looking genuinely offended as he propped himself up on one elbow. "And? What do you mean, 'and'? You can't treat such a delicate matter with a simple 'and'."
She exhaled. Here we go again.
"It’s just a stain, Jane. I don't see the problem."
"The problem is that it isn't just a stain; we’re talking about the King of Rock and Roll here," he said, falling back onto the sofa. He studied the no-longer-Elvis shape with intense concentration before adding, "Besides, it’s not just that he’s gone—it’s about what his departure signifies."
She frowned, finally turning to face him. "I don’t follow."
Patrick offered a satisfied smile, his eyes sparkling now that he’d successfully baited her into the conversation. He watched her from the comfort of his perch on the sofa.
"Well, you see... it’s not just about the change in appearance. It’s a personality test. If you see Elvis, it means you have a messiah complex and a secret addiction to sequins. If you see a basset hound... well, then you’re emotionally constipated."
She tried to make sense of the consultant’s words, finding herself significantly more confused than she had been five seconds ago.
"Let me see if I’ve got this straight," she began. "You’re telling me that because you see a dog today instead of Elvis... it means you’re practically dead inside?"
Patrick’s smile widened, clearly entertained by the agent’s confusion.
"Ah! The rookie is a quick study. But no—it means you are practically dead inside."
She faltered, completely lost. She opened her mouth as if to ask something, then snapped it shut in resignation, realizing her best bet was to avoid falling into the mental traps of the man on the sofa.
Suddenly, Jane sat up, breaking the silence. "Come now, you’re a state agent! You should be paying more attention. You know as well as I do that the devil is in the details."
She let out a scoff. "I’m a state agent, exactly—not a psychic." She glanced up at the ceiling where the supposed Elvis-stain lived—a ketchup smudge that, to this day, remained a bureaucratic mystery—, then back at the sofa where Jane sat. An idea flickered in her mind. "Besides, hasn't it occurred to you that maybe, just maybe, someone might have moved your couch?"
"Moved my couch?!" Patrick exclaimed, looking at her with a horrified expression, as if she’d just grown a third head. "I’ll have you know this couch has been in the exact same spot for two years. In fact, I named her: Betsy."
She fought back a smile. "Well, I think Betsy is cheating on you. Why don’t you move her about three inches to the left? I bet you’ll have your Elvis back before you can even say... 'Presley.'"
She met his gaze with a defiant, confident smirk. Jane arched his brows, suppressing a smile that threatened to break through, secretly impressed by the girl's quick wit.
He wasn't going to say it out loud, of course.
"So, you think you're quite clever, don't you, rookie?" He narrowed his eyes at her. "I hate to disappoint you, but Betsy has been faithful to me all this time. And you doubt her because of... what? Three inches?"
She rolled her eyes. "Just listen to me. I know what I’m talking about."
It was his turn to falter. She looked so certain that he found himself doubting his own argument—and Jane never doubted himself. "And you’re sure this will bring him back?" he asked, purely skeptical.
She propped an elbow on her desk, resting her chin in her hand. "Humor me, will you? Just move Betsy."
Resigned, Patrick stood up and shifted the sofa exactly three inches in the direction she’d pointed out.
"There. Now what?"
She let out a mock scoff. "Now what? Lie down, genius. Elvis has entered the building."
He settled back onto the leather, squinting at his favorite spot on the ceiling once more. "Oh! Well, look at that. The King has returned." The smile suddenly vanished, replaced by a frown as he lifted his head just enough to catch her eye. "Wait. How did you know the sofa needed moving?"
She was already buried back in her paperwork when she answered, "It’s all about perspective. Besides, you said it yourself: the devil is in the details."
Patrick fell silent for a moment, thoughtful. It was rare to meet someone so observant. Not on his level, of course—no one was, in his mind—but someone who noticed things others missed. Like the fact that Betsy needed to move three inches.
He studied the young agent’s face: the way she moved with a slow, heavy exhaustion, the spark in her eyes, and how the midday sun streaming into the bullpen forced her to squint.
"Huh..." he drifted off, turning fully toward her, his gaze never wavering. "But you see, the problem with Elvis is that I’m no longer sure I even like him."
The agent let her head drop onto the desk with a little thud at Jane's indecisiveness, her forehead hitting the cold wood with a guttural groan of irritation.
God, this man's more stubborn than a mule.
"Would you be so kind to remind me again why I’m stuck here with you instead of out there with the team?"
"Because you’re the rookie, and Lisbon operates under the tragic delusion that I require a babysitter." Patrick shrugged nonchalantly. "Personally, I prefer to think of you as my protégée." He sat up abruptly, rising to his feet and drifting toward her desk. He plucked a stray piece of paper from the floor and began to fold it. "Besides, someone has to fetch my tea and marvel at my… eccentricities, after all"
She sighed again, the sound muffled by the wood of the desk. "Great. I went from state agent to babysitter and waitress. Fantastic..." she muttered sarcastically. She was exhausted, and truth be told, she felt pushed aside. She got along with the others, sure, but she was still the 'new girl,' the 'rookie,' the 'beginner.'
She knew integration wouldn't be easy, but it had been two months and she felt like she’d contributed nothing to the cases beyond case rehearsals and analyzing dusty files from the dark ages that even her boss's boss would never bother to read. She knew she could do more—that she’d be more useful out in the field than rotting behind a desk. She was beyond frustrated.
Then, she felt a light tap on her hair.
She lifted her head, finding herself face-to-face with a small, delicately folded origami swan. She took it between her fingers with a tentative touch, as if it were made of glass, tracing the tiny beak with her index finger. A small smile, nearly imperceptible, flickered across her face, cracking the facade of irritation she’d been wearing.
Patrick noticed. Because he never missed a thing. Not a single detail.
He caught that tiny slip of a smile on her weary face. He saw the way her gaze softened at the sight of the little bird. He noted how, somehow, that one small gesture had caused her shoulders to finally drop.
He had to summon every ounce of self-control to keep from pointing out the shift in her posture. He simply smiled, watching as she placed the swan on her desk next to a pipe-cleaner flower—another of his creations from his idle moments between cases.
He’d realized she kept everything he gave her. It started with the first thing: an anonymous beaded bracelet, a chaotic mess of colors and shapes that she’d hung from her backpack zipper like a lucky charm, wearing a smile very much like the one on her face right now.
Since that day, making her smile like that had become his personal mission.
Which brings us back to the paper swan.
"Looks like I managed to make the grump smile," he said with a smirk, looking a bit smug and deeply satisfied with himself for having accomplished his mission for the day.
"I’m not a grump," she protested. "I just detest being the new hire." She let out a long breath before adding under her breath, "I’d be much more useful out there than in here."
A lightbulb seemed to go off in Patrick’s head as he practically jumped to his feet.
"Well then, what are we waiting for?" he exclaimed, his tone far too upbeat and his smile far too wide—and attractive—for her liking. He began striding toward the office exit.
"Wait, what? No!" She stood up so fast she sent her chair toppling over, racing to stand in front of him with her arms stretched and block the door. "No, no, no. We are not going anywhere. The boss told me—"
"Yes, yes, I know, but I don't care. You said it yourself: you’re more useful out there. So, let's go." He sidestepped her, heading straight for the elevator. When he realized she wasn't following, he called back, "Are you coming or what?"
She watched him go, half-incredulous and half-terrified of what the consultant was about to do. Because with him, you never truly knew.
At that moment, she felt she only had two choices:
Option one, call Lisbon to warn her that the devil was off his leash and wash her hands of the whole mess.
Or option two, follow the very charming but very impulsive mentalist to try to minimize the blast radius of the walking nuclear bomb that he is.
I don’t think I need to tell you which one she picked.
"Dammit, Jane..." she muttered to the empty air before anxiously rushing after him. This man is going to get me fired one of these days.
Jane couldn't help the private smile that touched his lips when he heard her hurried footsteps behind him. He knew she was worried; he knew she thought her job was on the line. But he also knew he’d be the one taking the fall later, happily claiming all the blame. He didn't mind. It was worth it.
Anything to keep her happy.
But that’s something the great Patrick Jane would never, ever, admit.
A/N: Damn, I'm on fire, haha. I've noticed there are not a lot of fics for Patrick Jane, so I decided to write one. This is my first time writing any type of comedy (if you can call it that way), so bear with me... please? As always, this was originally written in spanish so I just translated it. Let me know what you think and also if you want to be on the taglist. I hope you enjoyed it.
No sofas were harmed (or cheated on) in the making of this fic.
Peace out, bitches! 8)

synopsis: since moving in with your roommate, there was something about him you couldn't really put your finger on. he was always away in various countries, always secretive and never mentioned his work.
note: roommate!oscar my beloved!! i always have the urge to write roommate stories lol it's such a good trope 🥹 this one is more of a platonic story but i could definitely continue this into romance.

The first few months of living with your new roommate Oscar had been interesting to say the least. Moving countries was something that had stressed you out immensely, and the last thing you needed was an awful roommate to top it off so you were grateful he was a nice guy. He was always willing to help you out with directions or point out nice dinner spots in the city. Despite being a little disorganised, you could tell he also tried his best to keep the communal areas tidy, although you did dread to imagine the horrors that existed beyond his bedroom door. His shelves in the fridge were either packed to the brim with every food imaginable or completely barren with only a solitary ketchup bottle holding the fort - you imagined his room would be similar.
"Y/n," Oscar was in the middle of making himself a questionable sandwich at the kitchen counter. It seemed like he had simply taken everything from the fridge to put between the slices of bread. You were comfortably nested on the couch, in the prime position that gave you the perfect view of the television but also some sun from the large floor to ceiling windows. You tear your eyes away from your phone momentarily, "What's up?" You question, trying to ignore the combination of things he was piling onto the slice of bread. "I just wanted to let you know I'm going away tomorrow," He paused to place the other slice of bread over the fillings and pressed it down harshly, "But I should be back in about 3 weeks."
"Okay, thanks for letting me know..." you stare at the edge of your phone case, peeling away some of the rubber edging that had begun to come off, "Why do you never say what you're doing on all of these trips?" You raised an eyebrow at him, watching him take a stupidly big bite of the sandwich.
"Mmh.." Oscar shrugged, cheeks full like a hamster, chewing his way through what you could only imagine was an assaulting combination of condiments and fillings. "You're doing it again," You can't help but grin, "Every time I ask you this, you change the subject or avoid me."
"Mmm!" He shook his head vigorously, but failed to say anything. You could tell he was struggling through the same bite of sandwich, and that the bread was getting stuck to the roof of his mouth. "You do!" You stand up from your nest and rush over to sit opposite him on the stools at the kitchen island, "Just the other day I asked you what you were up to at the weekend and you managed to spill a full can of Pepsi on yourself and needed to shower immediately!" You were half annoyed and half amused, "I don't even remember seeing you drink any of it! It's like you opened it with the intention of spilling it so you could escape me!"
Oscar's eyes widened at the accusations you were throwing at him, much to your enjoyment. After what looked to be a very painfully thick swallow, Oscar slapped his sandwich down onto the plate, admittedly too hard and opened his mouth to interject. "I was as sad to waste that Pepsi as you were to see it spilled," He shrugged, blinking at you with a blank expression, completely unbothered. "Oscar," you sigh, "It's not about the Pepsi, it's the principle. Say what you like but I can tell you are avoiding the question,"
"Okay, fine. I am avoiding in the ques-" He started but was interrupted by you, "Thank you! I'm not insane!"
"Everything will be explained soon, I promise." He looked at you with sincerity and nodded slightly, you felt it in your gut to believe him. As much as it was annoying to be left in the dark, he seemed to have a good reason for it but was too awkward to communicate that normally.
"Okay, I trust you." You nod back, "But please never make another sandwich in my presence again." You look down at his plate, unable to even fathom what you were looking at.
"Excuse me, the flavour profile of this culinary delight is exquisite. It has so much depth and dimension." He grins, taking another bite.
"I'm tempted not to buy anything ever again so you can't put it in a sandwich," You smile, "Seriously." Your smile drops, and you look at him sternly, causing you both to burst into laughter immediately after.

The few weeks you'd spent alone in the apartment passed fairly easily - you just stuck to your usual activities of studying and going out with your friends. You did have to admit that on an evening you missed sharing the couch with Oscar while something neither of you particularly cared about played in the background on the TV, but you figured he would be back soon since it had been a while.
You were laying in bed, scrolling mindlessly through YouTube on your laptop as you often did, when you heard the familiar jingling of keys against the front door lock and then, the door creaking open. By the time you had dragged yourself from the bed into the living room, Oscar was already wheeling his suitcase inside, looking rather tired and dishevelled.
"Hey," Oscar greeted you weakly, half smiling, "Sorry, the flight really took it out of me this time." You giggled, he genuinely looked like he was asleep standing, "I was starting to think you'd moved countries."
"Yeah, well." He shrugged, slipping his shoes off and going over to flop on the couch, "Duty called."
"Hungary was it?" You questioned, "The time before was Singapore, right?"
"Mhm," Oscar was laying with his head back and eyes closed, trying to conserve energy whilst also participating in the conversation.
"Your company has a ridiculous travel budget. I think they need to review it actually," You smiled at the thought, but it was hard to imagine a company giving out so much money just for flights, why did the employees need to travel to the end of the earth every few months?
"Something like that," Oscar sat up and rubbed his eyes, "I think I'm gonna have to have a nap, definitely need one before I tackle that." He eyed his suitcase in disgust, as if its existence was personally offending him.
"For sure," You nod, shuddering at the thought of unpacking. You were definitely a twenty-pairs-of-underwear-for-five-days-of-holiday kind of girl so unpacking your own luggage was already horrendous, but the fact Oscar had been away for so long meant the contents of his suitcase were probably far worse.
Oscar disappeared into his room, shutting the door behind him without even bothering to turn on any lights in there. You had given up on the notion of watching a YouTube video, you'd already been searching for far too long, but you did want to watch something so the TV was your next victim. Channel surfing was something you were a pro at, being very indecisive, this was basically the only way you could settle on something to watch. You were flicking through the channels before a sports channel caught your attention. The commentator was passionately describing the events unfolding, "...and here's Oscar Piastri climbing out of McLaren after another strong race weekend-"
You froze. Oscar? Your Oscar? You blinked at the screen, waiting for the close up of the man climbing out of his race car with baited breath - it was him alright. The same hair style, the same half smile and the same awkward wave he gave you sometimes. Your Oscar clearly wasn't just some guy whose company had a very flexible budget, he was quite literally The Oscar of F1.
It took you a few minutes before you could even stand up from the couch. Everything was adding up now, and you were beginning to feel really stupid.
The many weekends spent away, the weirdly expensive luggage, the McLaren hoodies you'd seen him in thousands of times around the house and even teased him about. Of course.
"OSCAR!" You marched to his bedroom door and pounded on it, not really caring at this point if you woke him up. The door opened slowly to an Oscar that didn't look like the sleep had particularly benefited him, "Huh?" He blinked at you slowly. Without saying a word, you brought him by the arm to the living room, pointing at the TV, which was now playing his post race interview.
"You." Was everything you managed to say, the whole situation had rendered you speechless and you were hoping Oscar would help you make sense of everything.
"...Me." He was beginning to wake up now, "That's what I do when I'm away."
"You RACE? Like in the fast cars?? And come, I don't know, first place???" Your mind was racing, much like Oscar did, no pun intended, "You're.. actually famous??"
"Yeah. I thought you knew," He looked at you with a puzzled expression, he was genuinely confused how you hadn't figured this out. "You've seen my McLaren merch? My F1 Lego?"
"Oh my god." You groaned, "I just thought you worked in logistics." Oscar began giggling, something that quickly turned into belly laughing, with tears streaming down his face.
"Stop it!" You covered your face to hide the fact it was rapidly turning a shade of beetroot, "I don't know, okay! Loads of people work for McLaren."
"I guess.." He grinned at you, "But I was so sure you would have been the one to find me on social media the day I met you."
"Well then we were both wrong, call it even?" You smiled up at him hopefully, with wide eyes.
"Hmmm... not sure about that one." He stuck his tongue out at you playfully, "Be careful what you ask for. I'm the future world champion, or something like that."
You roll your eyes, "Right. And yet Mr. World Champion relies on me to make him something edible for dinner because he can't do it himself,"
"I can cook!" He defends himself, gasping dramatically.
"Toast doesn't count, by the way." You giggle, "Come on famous boy," You nudge his arm, walking towards the kitchen, "You can chop an onion while you tell me about your millions of followers and international success."
Oscar reluctantly pulled a chopping board out from the cupboard and rummaged around in a drawer to find a sharp enough knife. "You know, I'm glad you didn't know about it," He began peeling the onion, while you cocked an eyebrow at him. "Means you became my friend because of me, not because of that." He smiles, gesturing vaguely at the TV.
"Well, you're a pretty decent roommate and acceptable man." You grin cheekily.

Trying to keep anything a secret from Jane was impossible. But you’ve known him long enough and you wanted a challenge. So when his birthday was around the corner you thought it would be fun to try and throw him a surprise party.
The days leading up to it was what was stressful. Before the stress didn’t show but as the date got closer you felt the nerve of keeping the secret from a man whose whole life is to read people and know their secrets.
You went into the CBI HQ and knew you had to have a reason to be there. It was your week off. So you made a batch of cookies and made him a lunch so you could say you were just dropping in for a surprise.
As soon as you pulled into the building you saw his car park. Damn it, you're hoping he doesn't see you. So you get an excuse to go inside.
Jane was ever the gentleman and would offer to take the cookies up for you.
But just your luck, the observant man that he is, saw you pull in and waited by your parking spot and greeted you when you got out.
“I thought you had the week off.” He asked. He seemed glad to see you. Which was nice. You’d worked at the office for about 6 months. Mostly as an assistant. Taking calls and helping file paperwork and had developed quite a big crush on him. Hence a surprise party.
You can’t blow your cover. Take a breath and be mostly honest.
“You got me,” you looked towards the ground and pushed some hair behind your ear. Trying to sell it. “I wanted to surprise you for your birthday.” You held a nice bag with a bow. “I’m busy on the actual day so I thought I’d come now.”
You watched his normally smug smile turn … flustered?
“Oh well, thank you. He took the bag. You… didn't have to do anything.” He started to blush.
“I know, but I wanted to!”
You both stand there for a moment before you start to walk towards the entrance. He went to question before you quickly retorted.
“Oh. you thought I’m just here for you?” You smiled back at him. And walked to the front door.
You turned your back before you could see the absolutely embarrassed and flustered Patrick Jane.
He quickly followed after he composed himself.
Once you reached the hallway before the bull pen you stopped in front of Lisbon’s office. Jane thanked you and said he was excited to see what you had made him.
Once you caught her eye she nodded to come in. She smiles and stands up.
“What are you doing here? I thought you had the week off?”
“I do, I was just here to drop off some cookies.” You look behind you to make sure Jane wasn't about to jump out from anywhere. Once you knew the coast was clear you began to speak again. “I’m throwing a surprise party for Jane.” Lisbon started to smile. “And I was wondering if I could get the team's help.
Jane sat on his sofa, tea in hand. He took a nice sip. He looked over at you in Lisbon's office. He watched you two smile back and forth and he wondered what you were talking about. Ever curious he looked over at Grace and started to speak
“Hey, do you know what they're going on about in there?”
She keeps typing away. “They're probably trauma bonding over how much of an asshole you are.”
“Well this is the first im hearing such a thing.” he holds his hand to his chest and fakes being shocked.
He knew she was joking but the thought of you and Lisbon having a conversation about you made his heart melt. He'd liked you ever since you started. You always get his tea just right and when the team goes off and leaves him behind you're always there to chat.
He focused his eyes and tried to pay attention to Lisbon's lips. But you were doing most of the talking. He didn't have anything better to do then find out so he grabbed his cup and saucer and walked over. But it was too late. As soon as he started to get close, you opened the door.
“-oh yeah, he sure is.” you giggled. Lisbon had just called Jane a devil. And you couldn't help but agree. Knowing this would be so much easier if he wasn't a crime solving genius but hey thats what makes him charming. That and his deliciously handsome face
You turned to walk down the hall to the kitchen when you walked into something…
You looked up
Jane had luckily seen you coming and held his cup out of the way before you walked right into his chest. His other hand grabbed your waist to hold you from falling backwards.
“Oh my god, I'm so sorry.” you say face heating u
Despite the close proximity his hand doesn't move. In fact it moves from your waist to your lower back.
The way his firm hand felt on you is something you had only thought of when you were all alone at night gripping your sheets and wordlessly screaming his name.
“You should watch your step. Who knows what you'll run into.” His fingers hesitate to let you go but retreat back to his side.
“Yes sir.”
Jane was suddenly very happy he had let you go. He wouldn't have been able to explain the twitch in his pants from hearing you address him so formally
You started to walk again Jane now following
“Who's he?” you hear him ask. You look over at him and see him looking at you from behind his turquoise cup.
“What?” You had no idea what he was talking about.
“You were just talking to Lisbon. You said” he put up air quotes “he sure is” you said if you were agreeing with her on something. So someone you both know well.”
He kept talking.
You set the cookies down and turned to face him.
“Have you really nothing else to do Patrick." You say realizing only after, that it sounded ruder then expected.
He turns around to the somewhat calm bull pen “actually no, I don't.” He walks over to you.
“Well unfortunately I do so I'll see you around Jane.” you quickly walked out of the kitchen and down the hallway.
Normally you would jump at the idea of getting to spend time just talking to Jane by yourself but you know that the longer around you were there the quicker he would find out you were hiding something from him.
Once you got home you let out a huge sigh.
You couldn’t stop thinking of Jane, the way he touched you today. It was flooding your thoughts. You couldn’t think of anything but his hands on you. And how firm his chest felt.
You decided to take a cold shower and try to cleanse the dirty thoughts away.
You undressed and stepped into the shower. The cold water hitting your chest felt uncomfortable but it immediately shocked your system. You stood there for a while letting the water fully soak your body. You still felt the ghosts of his hand on your lower back. You felt like a horny teenager. You did know of a way to get rid of the feeling …
Jane walked around the office trying to get his mind off you. Nobody had been murdered in a couple of days which was good, but bad for his constantly running mind. He had nothing to occupy his brain except the way your body felt on his
He had to admit he had a moment of weakness when he moved his hand from your waist to your lower back but he couldn’t help it.
You were right there and you looked at him with those big eyes
He also couldn’t deny the way his cock twitched when you called him sir.
He was going crazy.
He continued to his little sanctuary upstairs. He was alone and it was private enough. He sat down and tried to clear his thoughts of you.
To no use.
“God, you're like a horny teenager.” He tells himself. He looks behind him and makes sure no one is there.
He hangs his head and prays that this will help get rid of his thoughts.
You slowly drag your hands down your body. And close your eyes picturing his large rough ones.
He palms the growing erection is his trousers
You find the warm spot between your legs and gently place your hand over it
He undoes his belt and finds the result of his dirty thoughts leaking from its tip
You sigh and slip a finger inside and call his name.
He chokes on his breath as he wraps his hand around himself picturing your beautiful fingers
You slowly pump your fingers in and out, curling them to hit that perfect spot
He picks up his pace. Sighing your name under his breath. Picturing you falling apart underneath him.
You take your other hand and start rubbing your clit in tight circles to match the delicious rhythm you set. “Patrick” you call out and feel yourself getting closer to release.
His eyes are tightly shut. He’s moaning your name again and again. Feeling his release grow.
You feel the familiar tightness build in your stomach, you call out his name as you cum around your fingers.
He cums with one final call of your name, spilling into his closed hand.
You take a second to catch your breath. For a moment you feel the dirty thoughts roll off your body and into the drain. But almost as soon as the were gone they were back.
Jane hangs his head. Feeling shameful for what he had just done. He feels as though he violated you.
Before he can tell himself not to he’s getting up and leaving. He has to see you and metaphorically apologize.
Of code he cleans himself up first
Once you got out of the shower you wrapped yourself up in a nice house coat you got from Grace a few months back
You plopped on your couch and stayed there for a long while.
You planned on doing loads today like finishing a book or finally sorting through your pantry but you felt your eyelids grow heavy and you let yourself fall into a very relaxing sleep.
knock knock
You jolted and sat up. Startled by the loud noise. You throw your feet off your couch and check your phone for the time.
5:37
Had it really been that long. You must have needed the sleep.
Another knock got you to your feet.
“Coming.” You tell out. Once you got the the door you opened it. Chain still attached.
“Jane?” He was looking down the hall before he saw you. Once his saw you his eyes widened. You only then remembered the house coat you were wearing.
You look down and thankfully nothing was showing except a little more chest then what you would have liked.
“Hey, uh can I come in." He held a bottle of sparkling wine up.
“Yeah if course one sec.” You close the door, Undo the chain and re open it. Holding it open for him to walk through.
“Make yourself at home just gonna change.” he nodded and walked towards your couch.
As soon as your got to your room you closed the door behind you and silently screamed.
I can't believe you opened the door looking like that. Jesus. You whisper yelled at yourself.
You tried to find the best thing to put on. You landed on a black tank top and a pair of pink lace panties and some jeans. You wanted to look put together. Jane had left his suit jacket in the car. But he still had a habit of out-dressing everyone.
You opened your bedroom door and headed towards your living room.
Jane had absolutely made himself at home. He had already found some cups for your drinks. You always manage to break your matching sets only leaving one behind. So two glasses, one marti and one champagne, sat on your table. When you locked eyes he was in the middle of rolling up his sleeves. A thing you always found attractive.
“So what do I owe the pleasure?” You took a seat. And faced him. The couch was small so your knees were touching.
“Well you know. You said you were busy on my birthday so thought we could celebrate now.” in a very brief moment you tilted your head before you remembered the lie you told.
He had noticed. But choose to say nothing.
“I'm glad you're here.” you smile and take a glass. You look at him and hold out your glass. “Heres to you.” He clinked glasses and you both took a sip. It was delicious.
You both went on catching up and telling stories for the time it took for you to finish your second glass
You went to speak but you ended up both talking at the same time.
You laughed and he told you to go first.
“Can I admit something to you?” you asked with such an innocent look on your face. He shouldn't have but he felt it where he did. He readjusted his position
“What's on your mind?”
“I've kinda always wanted…” you paused, your face got red and you were avoiding eye contact. You were embarrassed to ask. A million things crossed his mind of different questions you would ask him to elicit this kind of reaction from you.
“Yes?” He put down his glass and focused his attention on your body language.
“Don't laugh.” You said with a smile on your face.
Jane held up his hands to signal of no judgement.
You looked at his hands then towards this lap. Eyes not reaching his face but, These were all good signs. You were embarrassed, sure. But it meant you were comfortable around him.
“I've always wanted to be hypnotized.”
Jane stared at you for a moment. Not knowing how to react.
“I knew you would judge me.” You said and started to turn away. He reached out and put his hand on your knee.
“Are you saying you want me to hypnotize you?” He didn't think your cheeks could get any brighter but he was mistaken.
He was shocked. The thought of having complete control over you was intoxicating.
“It just seems so interesting. To be put in a trance I… Kinda wanna know what it feels like.”
“Are you sure?” He was asking to be certain. He wanted to see you like that but he knew that was selfish. He had to make sure you wanted it.
“Yes.” You put your hand over his on your knee.
“Okay.” He got into a more comfortable position. “Close your eyes.” He took your hand and turned it palm facing up. And started stroking your inner wrist. “You feel relaxed listening to my voice, you feel it coming through your ears and filling you with calm.”
He watched as you flickered your eyes closed and felt as your pulse started to slow. He will admit it's much easier to hypnotize someone who wants to be hypnotized.
“You feel all the weight in your body slowly drift away. You're falling into a deep sleep. And when I touch your knee you'll be fully asleep. And once you sleep you'll be filled with the urge to be completely truthful to any questions I ask. ” carefully articulating every word. He watches as your body is slowly swaying. He taps your knee.
“How do you feel right now?” He asks
“I feel.. relaxed.” your voice was so soft.
He was in complete control over you and that thought went straight to his cock.
He was glad he didn't have to hide it right now.
“How have you been this week?” You took a moment to answer.
“Stressed.” He furrowed his eyebrows.
“Why is that?”
“I've been planning a surprise party and it's been really hard to keep a secret.” His heart dropped. He felt horrible for getting you to admit that but he was also proud. He knew something was off about the way you acted at the office today
“And who's this party for?” He had to make sure.
“It's for my friend Patrick.” He smiles. He knows he shouldn't keep prodding this topic but he can't help himself.
“Why are you throwing a party for Patrick?” you paused. And your cheeks got red again.
“I like him.” He stills for a moment. He knows he's taking advantage of you in your trance but technically you did ask for it.
“Why do you like Patrick?”
“He's smart and he always drinks tea. He's handsome.” He feels his cheeks blush. “He's just a really caring guy.” Just before he was about to ask another question you started to speak again.
“He never realizes how sexy everything he does is. The way he walks, the way he dresses, and the way his voice gets soft and deep when he's hypnotizing someone. It makes me so wet.
Jane sits back in absolute disbelief. He knows that hypnotism can only make you do what you want. So deep down you wanted him to know you thought of him like this. He doesn't know how to handle the information he has been given
“If Patrick were here right now what would you have him do? He would do anything you want.” He has gotten enough out of you but he's having way too much fun.
“Anything?” You smiled
“Anything” he assure
“I'd want him to kiss me... Hard and fast. I'd want him to grab hold of me and just have him do what he wants with me.
He's getting harder in his pants. He knows he shouldn't be asking you about your fantasies but he simply can't help it.
“Do you often think of Patrick like that?” He knows he is just stroking his ego but wants to know more.
“Yes, I think of what he would do to me when I'm alone, at night, all the time.” He starts to notice the way you're shifting in your seat and crossing your legs. He also sees your hardened nipples through your shirt
He had his assumptions about your submissive tendencies. He just never thought you'd want him to have total control over you.
He knew if he asked you anything more he wouldn't be able to help himself so he decided to stop.
He found a throw pillow and placed it on his lap.
He taps your knee and he watches as you slowly open your eyes looking like you just woken up.
You see Jane's Perfect smiling face in front of you. You feel so relaxed and at peace
“Wow I should get you to do that more often.” You say.
Jane smiles but looks away from you not looking at your eyes
“What? Did I say anything crazy? Like confess to a murder.” You breathed out a laugh. He looked flustered. But you couldn’t tell why.
Once you fully come back to reality you realize that you have a familiar ache between your legs and your panties are wet.
“Jane… what did I say.” He finally met your gaze and his pupils were blown open.
“Nothing you didn’t want me to know.” He was sitting back with his arm on the back of the sofa. At first glance he looked relaxed. But after looking harder you saw how stiff he was. His hands were clenched and breathing was shallow. He also had a pillow on his lap.
Your mind raced about what you could have said to make him feel that way.
One thing he always told you when you were reading people is to look at their eyes. Pupils expand when looking at something you want. And his where huge. There were almost no green showing.
“Well It seems as though I was honest with you.” You moved a little closer to him. “How about you tell me something you want me to know, you know because I can't hypnotize you to tell me.”
He sits back and holds his position. He looked like a picture. Completely unmoving. He was calculating everything. You could tell.
He was looking at you. He could see the pieces fall into place in your mind. He knew you wanted him. And God did he want you too.
He held out his hand and moved his two fingers signaling come here
Your eyes got dark. And you immediately obeyed. You crawled towards him. your arms grazing past his legs.
You grab the pillow and toss it to the floor.
Your face, close to his, you're on your hands and knees.
He takes his hand and puts it under your chin. His thumb swipes your lower lip. You gently part them and you take his thumb in your mouth. Tongue pressing against it. Keeping your eye on his.
He's in trouble.
You're in deep. There is no turning back now. You swirled your tongue against his thumb and let it go with a kiss.
He moved towards you and cupped your face. You feel the wetness you left behind oh his thumb, oh your jaw.
He leaned in and stopped an inch away from your face. He was testing the waters.
“Please,” you breathe out
He moves towards you, finally planting his lips on yours. It was hard and firm. Just how you imagined it would be. He guided you closer and signaled to sit on his lap.
As soon as you did you felt the hardness he was trying to hide earlier. You grind down onto him. He tilts his head back and breathes out. Giving you perfect access to his neck.
You plant kisses all along his jaw and down his collar.
He takes his hand and finds your waist and holds you firmly.
“You're so worked up already Patrick, I've barely touched you.” You say as you pull away from his neck. You look him in the eyes again.
He breathes deep in response. You feel his hands find your ass and before you know it he's holding you and standing up.
You let out a squeal. And wrap your legs around his waist.
“Bedroom.” He says.
“Down the hall on the left.” He walks with you down the hall before reaching the door. He readjusted you in his arms and used his foot to open it the rest of the way.
You were thankful that you had made your bed that morning.
He walked you to the bed and dropped you down on it. Getting a high pitched sound from you.
You sit back with your legs out and watch
He starts by unbuttoning his vest. And he kicks his shoes off. He gets the vest off and tosses it to the floor. Before he starts with his shirt.
You quickly get to your knees on the bed and place your hands on his chest.
“Can I?” You ask.
Ne nods
You start to trail your hands down his chest and back up again. You get to the top button and slowly undo them. One by one.
This whole time he's just taking you in. Still in disbelief this is happening.
Once you reach the bottom button you slide your hands over the lean muscle of his torso.
“I don't need to be a psychic to read your mind, Dear. It's written all over your face.
You shudder at the pet name.
He gently pushes you back onto the bed.
He shoulders the shirt off and he makes his way towards you. He takes over your space. And crawls towards you. You move back till your head hits the pillow and lay your head down.
Once he reaches your hips he grabs onto your jeans. He looks up at you silently asking for permission.
You nod.
He unbuttons them and pulls down the zipper. He smiles when he sees the colour of your pantie
You raise your hips to help him pull your jeans down
“Pink?” He questioned with that trademark smile of his.
“Shut up.” You blushed. When you put them on you didn't expect he'd be seeing them.
He plants a kiss right where you wanted him most. You held your breath but he moves up your body and was face to face with you.
“Tease.” You say
“You should know me by now.” He said before trapping you in a frivolous kiss.
Your hands found his shoulders and you held him tight
He started to grind his hips down against yours
You moan into the kiss. You take your hands and move them towards his belt and try to undo it without looking. After a moment or two you undid it. You quickly find your hand inside his boxer briefs and grab hold of his erection. It felt heavy in your hand.
He pulled back from the kiss and rested his forehead to yours.
“You're gonna be the death of me.” He says with heavy breath.
“I want you Patrick.” You say looking him in the eyes and giving his cock a playful squeeze. You watch as his eyes scrunched.
“First thing.” He moved his hand from wherever it had been on your body to your mouth. “Open.” He demands. Which you immediately obliged.
He sticks his ring and middle finger inside and watches as you get them wet for him.
After he thought it was enough he brought them down to your panties.
He moves them out of the way and starts circling your already soaked entrance with his fingers. You grab hold of his back. Digging your fingers into his flesh.
“Relax, come on darling, you can relax for me, can you?” He soothes.
You take a deep breath in and once he sees you relaxed he works his finger inside you.
You gasp, his fingers are so much bigger than yours and it feels way better then when you pretend it's him.
“There you go. Come on. Let me hear you.” You breathlessly start to moan out. He's holding eye contact with you. Drinking in your expressions as you come undone beneath him.
He starts to pull out his finger. Before you protest he adds another. You gasp up into him and hold him tight. Shutting your eyes and focusing on the pleasure he's giving you.
He starts to curl his fingers. Deliciously hitting that spongy spot inside of you.
“That's it, that's my girl.” He takes the thumb on the same hand and starts rubbing circles around your clit in sync with his fingers.
“Oh my god, I , fuck. You-” you throw your head back against the pillow.
“I what?” He asks, playing into what he knows you want.
“you feel, you feel better then. Oh god. Then I thought.
He lets out a playful chuckle
“You think of me doing this to you often?” He's being a dick and he knows it but he can feel your pussy clench around his fingers when he talks. He knows you like what he's saying.
Your face gets flustered. Even more so then your fucked out state.
“If you're not a good girl. I'll stop. Tell me
“Yes! yes, Please don't stop.” You feel the coils bundling up in your stomac
“Yes what?” He's being an ass hole but god do you love it. You've always wanted him to just do what he wants to you.
“Yes sir.
“That's my girl.” He takes your lips in a sloppy kiss as he picks up the pace of his fingers. He feels you squeeze him hard and he knows you'll feel like heaven around his cock. But right now he's focusing on you.
He drinks in your moans as you reach your climax. He feels the pressure on his fingers and the thought makes him almost cum in his pants for the second time that day.
You catch your breath. And look up at him.
“Please,” you ask. Wanting more of him.
“Of course.” He says as he plants a kiss to your forehead. He rolls off of you and you lay there with your eyes closed for a moment. You hear the sound of his belt hitting the floor. And the weight of him getting back on the bed.
He gets back on top of you and he grabs your shirt and pulls it over your head. He tosses it to the floor
His hands immediately find your breasts and he starts palming the flesh in his hands. He starts kissing down your neck towards them.
“You're beautiful.” He says taking a moment to look at you in front of him.
“i don't need to be a psychic to read your mind.” You quote him.
“Oh yeah?” He cocks his eyebrows and grabs your ass. Dragging you closer to him.
His cock now sits between your warm body's. You grind up into him. Getting a grunt from him.
“You naughty girl.” You smile at the name. Before you can come back with a retort you feel him pushing into you.
The pressure of him stretching you out. You suck in a high-pitched breath. He moves his head down towards your neck and pushes deeper till he bottoms out.
He stills above you and you feel his core tighten. He's breathing heavily.
“Patrick?” You grab his shoulder.
“You feel so.. good just… give me a second.” You clenched around him and he bites your ear.
He lifts his body on one forearm and starts thrusting above you. His free hand finds your waist for leverage.
He feels so good. He's gliding in and out so perfect. His cock filling you like it is meant to.
“You look perfect like this” he's starting down at you taking in your fucked out state. His pace isn't crazy fast. But it's deep and hard.
You grab under his arms and hold his shoulders. Feeling the muscle strain of holding himself up.
He stops moving.
“Damn it.” His forehead is pressed to yours. “You just feel so good.” You're flattered that you could bring such a smart mouthed man to such a state. You wondered what else you could make him do.
You brought him close. And moved your hips up and sideways. He got the hint and flipped over.
You lined yourself back up and sank down with a sigh.
Jane out his hands behind and head and looked up at you with his smug smile. It made you want to fuck that look right off him.
You put your hands down in his chest and moved your hips in a circle. Testing the waters.
You adjusted your thighs and started to move. The new position made him go much deeper than before and it felt perfect. You shut your eyes focusing on the feeling.
“Oh look at you. You look so good up there riding me.
“Fuck o-” you squealed. He had placed his hands on your waist and thrusted up into you.
“That's it, be a good girl for me and take it okay? Can you do that for me.” The top of his length was hitting your cervix in a delicious way.
He grabbed your hands and pulled them down so your chest was in his. The angle now reaching your g-spot.
“Oh my god, oh my god, fuck. Don't stop, please, Partick don't stop.
“I'm not planning on it.” You can feel him tense up and you know he's getting close.
“It's okay, I want you to cum.”
As soon as the words left your mouth his core tightened and he breathed out your name. As he buried himself as deep as he could and stopped.
You stay on top for a moment. His arms still holding your waist. He moves them up and holds you in his arms. Silently assuring you he's not going anywhere.
You only get up because your body tells you.
As soon as your back Jane's already under the covers. He pays next to him.
You smile and walk over.
Once you get it you move in close and he raises his arm up. You find a comfortable position and rest your head on his chest.
“Thank you.” He says.
You ponder what he meant
“For what?” He squeezed your shoulder and didn't answer.
You were silent for a while longer. Not awkward. But comfortable.
“Did I really tell you that I wanted to have sex with you while hypnotized?” You asked out before you could think not to.
“Actually yeah you did.” He chuckled and you buried your face in his chest. “Come on now you can't be shy, not after all that.”
He was right.
“Did I say anything else?”
“No, nothing important.”
You were pleased. You couldn't handle more embarrassment.
“Oh actually you did tell me about the party you were throwing me.” You immediately get up and look him in the eyes.

· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
It had been six months since Jane was fired from the CBI.
Six months without talking.
Six months without calling.
Six months without texting.
Six months of no contact.
The day Jane mocked Wainwright, who then in return physically attacked him, felt like a fever dream.
Firing Jane was a logical thing to do, but you never expected him to actually pull through. A month was how long you expected to not see Jane. Seeing being the key word here, because you always assumed you'd stay in contact one way or another.
But that one month turned into two, three, four, five and finally six.
The memory of him grew more and more distant each day until he walked into the CBI building as if nothing ever happened.
It didn't take a professional eye to see how rough he looked: unkempt hair and clothes, stubble on his face and a tired look that pulled it all together.
The blonde headed straight to Lisbon's office, only to find she wasn't there. So he did what you had expected him to do on his first day after leaving.
He turned to you.
Not to you as an individual, but as a team, and while that was an accomplishment nonetheless, it still hurt your feelings.
Grace called for him first which made the two male agents' heads turn as well.
Jane stepped forward and entered the bullpen.
"Well, it's good to see you all. How are you?" he said and looked around the room. The words seemed to spread concern but his demeanor didn't. To you it looked like total disinterest.
Cho replied for you all. "Uh, we're good. How are you?"
"Never better." He smiled and nodded. "Never better."
You hoped this opportunity would turn into the long awaited conversation you had wished for almost every day, but of course Lisbon had to make herself known.
"Jane?" she called out.
"There you are," he stated and followed her into her office.
After watching the scene unfold in front of you, all you could do was scoff and mutter a curse word under your breath.
Of course he didn't care about the time that had passed. He probably thought of time as some weird, unapproachable concept that didn't mean anything. Six months? Just a blink of the universe.
Clearly he didn't give a shit, but it meant something to you. Being Jane-less for 186 days and about seven hours definitely took its toll on you. Every day you worried about him. The missed calls and texts, combined with the occasional news you heard about him only fueled your concern, yet all you could do was observe and pray.
Now this hot, but extremely infuriating bastard walked in to greet your team for a nano second, only to leave and spend the rest of his stay alone with Lisbon.
Why did he naturally get pulled to her? And why not you?
Your little frowning session didn't go unnoticed. "You okay?" Grace asked, looking down at you. "I wanna say yes but you wouldn't believe me," you murmured. She was about to reply when you heard two shots coming from Lisbon's office.
You immediately got up from your seat. "What the fuck?!"
Grace, Cho and Rigsby followed you as you rushed to the closed doors. None of them seemed to be as disturbed as you were, not even close to it. You didn't pay them any mind, maybe they could just control their emotions better.
That was until they all collectively worked together to maneuver an unrecognizable body onto the ground.
You stopped dead in your tracks and watched Jane, Lisbon and Rigsby run towards the exit.
Your jaw would've fallen on the ground if it hadn't been attached to your skull.
It was planned, all of it. You didn't know what or why but it was evident that every single one of the team members knew about Jane's plan, except for you.
All you could do was stand there as if you were glued to the ground.
The feeling of confusion, exclusion and hurt was the reason for the tears forming in your eyes. Your shocked state made you unable to control how sad you looked, even though you thought you had mastered it years ago.
A hand on your shoulder pulled you out of your thoughts. Grace. Her expression mirrored yours — tears and redness both visible — but unlike yours, they were fake. She was a good actress and the first thing this observation brought up in you was detestment.
You finally closed your mouth and met her apologizing eyes with a cold stare.
In return, she bent down to hover over the unknown body, right in time for the approaching agents to see.
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
The static hum of the car was a constant companion on the way to Las Vegas. You were driving to the Henderson Industrial Park with Cho next to you and Grace in the back.
Eyes on the road, hands on the steering wheel but still your mind was going places. Back to Jane and the situation yesterday. What else could you be thinking about if not the double betrayal by the person you would've trusted your life with?
To lighten up the mood, you put on the aux and "Rid of Me" by PJ Harvey started playing. Perfect fit.
You tapped your fingers to the beat while keeping your focus on the things in front of you. A car crash caused by built up feelings was the last thing you needed.
One look through the rearview mirror allowed you to take in Grace's concerned expression. It was aimed at you. The second you met her eyes, she bent down over her pen and paper.
You quietly scoffed and turned right.
The only explanation you had gotten yesterday was that they were told not to include you in the plan. No reason, just this simple sentence and an apologizing squeeze on the shoulder.
You were angry at every one of them and while the reasons and degrees of anger varied, you couldn't be bothered to try and act like nothing ever happened.
After a few more minutes of the agonizingly uncomfortable drive, you finally pulled up at the location Jane somehow pulled out of his sleeve. Right after parking the car, you got out of it and slammed your door shut, making your way over to the entrance with quick and certain steps.
Knock, pause, knock, knock.
The door was pulled open and you were met with the blue eyes that used to pull you in depths you had never imagined possible.
"Hi," Jane greeted with a genuine look on his face.
Your eyes bored into his, before you wordlessly brushed past him. You heard Grace apologize on your behalf and greet him, but all you could do was roll your eyes. If you could handle all this, he could surely live with your rude behavior.
Scanning your surroundings, you spotted a few stacked chairs in the corner of the hall and made your way over there to grab one. Normally, you would've gotten one for your colleagues as well, but for reasons unknown you didn't feel like doing it.
A loud noise made Rigsby turn his head when you as good as threw the chair on the ground somewhere around the makeshift space.
Let everybody fucking know you're pissed.
The others went quiet for a moment. Not like they were talking much before your little outburst, but it was obvious that they were eyeing you and each other, sending themselves little looks of confusion and irritation.
Grace and Cho moved in behind you and set up their space as well. They seemed to make sure to leave some room for you, since there were at least five feet between you.
You leaned back in the grey plastic and searched for Lisbon's gaze. "What do you need us to do?"
She turned towards you.
"Get a better picture of the area. Security and surveillance, threats that we could encounter," she ordered you.
"Actually, you could accompany me. I have to buy a melon," Jane cut in, looking at you expectantly.
"You need a snack?" you questioned.
"He needs a replacement for my head. His gift for Red John," Lisbon explained.
"Of course," you said as if this made sense. Serial killers and their sense for dramatics. "Right, I'll be your bodyguard then," you added and moved towards the door you came through just three minutes ago.
You didn't look behind yourself to check if Jane was following you, but there was no need. He quickly caught up to you outside and shifted to your left.
You had already opened the door to the driver's seat when Jane made you stop in your tracks.
"I can drive," he suggested.
"No."
"How can you know where we will get a melon?"
"Unlike your long outdated car, this one has GPS. We'll find the way, Jane," you retorted and let yourself fall down on the seat.
The blonde man sat down more elegantly than you and raised his hands. "I guess you're capable of finding the next store."
You turned on the engine and drove back onto the main street.
"Yeah, at least I'm capable of finding a store, right?" you asked and rolled your eyes.
Jane didn't reply. You didn't expect him to, but you did expect him to observe you, and observe you he did. You could feel his eyes studying your face and body language, noting down all the small signs that betrayed your cold behavior. For a minute or so, his piercing blue eyes examined every inch of your body, which made it extremely hard to focus on driving.
Finally, he turned his head back to face straight forward.
Jane kept quiet but you were almost certain he was going to start talking soon. Maybe he didn't trust you with faking a death and a kidnapping, but all the years of knowing each other made you able of anticipating his next moves.
"I know you're upset."
You scoffed.
"Oh, do you now?"
"I didn't want you risking your career for me."
You whipped your head towards him.
"What?!"
While you wouldn't be opposed to giving Jane a nasty slap in the face, you weren't too keen on driving both of you into a tree.
"Are you fucking serious right now? Don't tell me you care about my career while risking that of four other people."
"You're passionate ab-," he started.
"Yeah, well, so is everyone!" you snapped and shot him another angry glare.
His head dropped down and he started playing with his fingers. You sighed. Your annoyance could be felt miles away but you tried taking a few deep breaths to calm down.
"Jane, you're so fucking infuriating. Excluding me from this incredibly important plan was not only stupid but also totally unreasonable. And you know what? That's not even what bothers me the most."
You looked over at your right to see if he made any attempts to speak, but of course he didn't.
"You didn't contact me once for half a year. Half a year!" you emphasized.
He stayed still.
You scoffed again and turned back to face the road.
The silence weighed you down like gravity.
A few minutes passed, yet Jane didn't make any move to speak.
You knew he was bad at apologizing and expressing feelings that didn't involve cheekiness, but he did sometimes manage to show gratitude or condolence.
For now, he remained quiet, which caused your anger and hurt to grow.
You squeezed and released the steering wheel multiple times to ground yourself and took a few deep breaths in. This kind of conversation wouldn't happen without you signalizing your nervous system to calm down. A panic attack held the power of turning what was about to come into a greater kind of disaster.
Breathe in. Breathe out.
"I trust you with my life," you finally said. "I always assumed it was the same for you but you've proven that to be wrong."
Only two sentences out and you already knew this monologue would go on for a while.
"Tell me how long we've known each other. Is it four years now?" you pressed.
"Almost five," Jane mumbled without looking at you.
"Right, five years. A lot happened in those, wouldn't you say?"
You continued before he could speak. You didn't need him to.
"We see each other every day at work — or used to, at least. We spend about ten hours a day together, sometimes even more. There's times where a case gets too dangerous and one of us gets hurt. Whenever that's me, you patch me up and give me a cup of tea while keeping me close to you."
You took a small break from talking to collect your thoughts.
"Whenever it's you, I try my best to turn off your mind, because for whatever reason, physical bruises don't bother you as much. The only thing that's making you feel miserable is yourself. Your brain is an engine that's constantly reminding you of all the bad things that ever happened, no matter how big or small they might be."
"Everytime I manage to bring out the smallest grin of you, I feel like I just hit the jackpot. I know how deep your thoughts go and that sometimes it's hard for you to get back, but I usually prevent that."
"I seriously believed that made our relationship special," you admitted and cringed at how stupid it sounded now.
"On a few nights you felt like my anchor — like you were the only thing keeping me from going insane. I thought that was mutual."
You faced him, only to find that he was turning away even more now.
"A few months before you were fired was one of those nights," you recalled. You were certain he already knew what you were talking about but you felt the need to go more into depth.
"We got a confession after weeks of working our asses off. He even told us where he hid the bodies but none of us expected it to be a fucking mass grave. After covering the area, I drove home. You knocked ten minutes later, saw how messed up I looked, and held me tight."
The car came to a halt in front of the glowing red traffic light. The red seemed to be a perfect representation of your rage.
"I felt safe in your arms. I felt like I was allowed to forget about the cruelty of the world for a moment."
Your rambling was interrupted by a voice crack and the feeling of wetness in your eyes.
"Do you remember how you stayed the night? How we shared our space and feelings and comforted each other? How close we were and how we pulled away before-," your voice broke again and you wiped a fallen tear from your cheek.
The light turned green as if it meant to encourage you to go on.
You stepped into the petal, driving forward.
"Can you imagine how I feel after going from an almost-kiss to not seeing the man I can't function without for six months?"
As you turned to look at him with a tear smeared face, he finally met your gaze, though he didn't reply.
"Fucking miserable, Jane! Like somebody put chains on me and sent me away to rot in the freezing cold."
His face displayed grief, meaning that you got the reaction you wanted, only that it didn't feel satisfying.
"And now, on top of that, I end up being the only one who wasn't allowed to know about your genius little plan while everyone else did. I wasn't the first person you searched for after coming back, in fact, you didn't look for me at all."
"The only thing that would explain any of this is that you never even cared."
Your chest hurt at this conclusion, like someone tore out your heart after painfully opening your rib cage.
"That's not true," Jane assured. His voice was quiet but he sounded offended.
He had no right to be offended.
You scoffed and rolled your eyes at this. "Then please explain to me why it feels like it."
You could audibly hear him taking a deep breath in, just like you had done before. Maybe now was the time for the truth.
"You know I didn't just contact you within those months. I had to distance myself from everybody, otherwise the disguise wouldn't have worked."
"I didn't treat you any different than the others, but you can believe me when I say I wish I could've," he explained and paused for a moment. "Do you think I enjoyed being apart from you for this long? I thought of you almost every night and it only hurt more the longer I stayed away."
"It would have taken one message. One. You know I can read your code, I know you well enough for that," you countered, still not grasping it fully.
"Contacting any of you just once could've made my cover blow, you know that-"
"Of course I do!" You interrupted. "I would've acted the same but I never would've indulged in this in the first place. Your obsession with Red John is rooted way too deeply."
"Looking for Red John makes you think you're keeping the people you love safe, while you're actually losing them in the process."
The atmosphere turned into something weird after you said this. It was quiet in the car — safe for the constant humming of the engine that reminded you of your place — but it was evident that both of your minds were filled with thoughts and your mouths with yet unsaid words.
The turn signal of the car flickered, indicating that you were about to change lanes and therefore cross the line.
"Why didn't you involve me?" You finally asked outright, needing an answer to your most pressing question.
"I couldn't risk losing you," Jane admitted. He sounded truthful, but things weren't adding up to you.
"But you decided to risk losing your boss and coworkers?" you probed, looking at him expectantly.
"It's different with them."
"How so?"
"They're people from work. Friends, but nothing more."
"I still don't understand how that is a reason to exclude me."
Jane's piercing blue eyes met yours. He looked a little confused, like he had expected you to know his motives by now.
"Our relationship had changed before I left. It wasn't purely platonic anymore and I feared that by contacting, or making you follow this plan, I would endanger you."
Your facial expression only worsened by his explanation, so Jane knew he had to fully commit now.
"Red John goes after people I love. That puts the biggest target on your head."
Oh.
Oh.
Patrick Jane just confessed his love for you after avoiding and excluding you in every imaginable way.
How could one possibly react to this? Laugh and cheer, break into tears, talk about reciprocation or perhaps ignore it?
Your mind was dead set on the latter. Jane could have a taste of his own medicine from time to time and if you were being honest, you wouldn't even know what to say if you had chosen to speak. Thoughts and feelings were causing chaos in your head.
Firstly, the blonde, charming, kind, and good looking guy you had been attracted to since the day you first met him, loved you. You never considered this possibility, especially because you could never tell your own feelings. It all became so complicated with him that you stopped labeling what you felt years ago.
Was it truly only platonic? No. It hadn't been for a while, but was it love?
Damn Patrick Jane and his talent of making everything so complicated.
Of course you loved him. The only reason why you weren't fully aware of that fact before is because you subconsciously protected yourself from a crush so unreachable.
Or seemingly not so unreachable.
On one hand, you were glad that this was the reason Jane acted the way he did, but on the other, you were mad at him for being so secretive about it when things could've gone differently months ago.
Both of you could've acted on it, but what made you different from him is that you were unaware while he knew from the beginning. Most likely, at least. The decision was in his hands, not yours.
Seeing how involuntarily he just told you about it, you were sure he wouldn't have said anything sooner, not if he didn't need too. This would mean that no matter how bad the mutual pining would've gotten, nothing would've happened.
You should be happy that you finally found somebody who loved you back, but all you felt was hurt.
Jane's reasoning for this didn't matter to you at the moment, all you cared about was how he almost ruined your chance of being happy. Most importantly: being happy with somebody.
If it weren't for the circumstances, you'd be jumping into his arms and smothering him in kisses. Right now though, you decided it was best to keep quiet and see how things play out. You had enough of talking about your feelings and frankly, Jane was the one who should start doing that.
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
You were the first to enter the grocery store you found next to the road, not even bothering to hold the door for Jane, who was a few feet behind you. You almost made a run for the corner farthest away from the exit, merely to get some space between the two of you.
While you were walking to the snack aisle, Jane was assumably looking for a melon that fit Lisbon's head. Not that you were following his actions, you couldn't care less at the moment.
After grabbing your favourite bag of chips, you made your way over to the store fridge. As you opened one side, you were met with cool air. Your head fell down towards your chest and you took a deep breath in as you were closing your eyes.
Holding your slumped down position on the open freezer for a minute did wonders for your composure — and keeping it. You didn't feel the need to punch Patrick anymore, but sadly the cold wasn't a cure to any other feeling besides impulsive anger.
Your lungs inflated one last time before you grabbed an Arctic Vibe Celsius and breathed out.
With your goods in your hand, you moved back to the front, brushing past Jane and putting your things down on the cashier counter. The blonde man slowly moved up behind you. He almost looked funny the way he carried the melons, but you'd go against your freshly set up rules if you laughed now.
"You pay together?" the cashier asked you both.
"Separate," you replied without missing a beat. Jane eyed you up and down as you pulled out your wallet to pay for your food and drink.
Let him wonder.
You were a mystery to Jane for about a year. After that, he figured you out and it wasn't fun for you anymore. A return of those times sounded like a great deal in your ears.
The moment your wallet found its way back into your bag, you stepped out of the exit again and headed towards your car. Again, Jane was slower, but you didn't make any movement to wait on him. Instead, you started the engine and impatiently tapped your nails on the console.
When Jane opened the door to the passenger seat, you gave him about three seconds to sit down before you started driving. His door didn't even close when the car moved and the impact threw him against his seat.
"Woah, slow down."
"Shut up."
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
You'd been back from your little trip for only ten minutes but work didn't wait. The team was getting information on the neighborhood to be as prepared as possible.
"Pretty much the whole neighborhood is in foreclosure. There's hardly anyone there. It's like a ghost town," Grace shared.
While the adults were talking, Jane balanced the different melons in his hands and compared them to Lisbon's head.
"Smart move by Red John," Cho commented. "Tough to set up any kind of surveillance in advance. Any movement's gonna be conspicuous. He must be suspicious."
Jane finally included himself in the conversation when he heard this. "No, he's just cautious."
"He's hooked. He believes," he added.
"How can you be sure?" Rigsby asked what you all wanted to know.
"Because he wants to believe."
Jane just made you picture Red John as Mulder and suddenly all threats seemed harmless. Until you remembered it wasn't about your favourite FBI agent.
"We're doing this thing, so let's just do it. Is everybody clear on the plan? We're gonna move soon," Lisbon inquired and met all sets of eyes currently present.
Collective affirmatives echoed around the hall.
"Hey, you guys, listen, I want to apologize for deceiving you," Jane started.
A scoffed 'whatever' escaped Grace as she rolled her eyes, the same action that you came to copy just a few seconds later.
"And thank you for helping me now," Jane finished.
"We're helping the boss," Cho corrected, keeping a neutral expression.
Rigsby spoke for the team again. "Yeah. She's helping you. We're helping her."
"Be grateful you have her," you added, sarcasm thick in your voice.
Lisbon stopped you in your bickerings before Grace could add something similar. "Guys, cut him some slack."
"Oh. Yay, team," was Jane's comment on that, accompanied with a sloppy fist of unity. He put the now wigged melon into a box and closed the lid on it.
"Okay, everybody get your vests. We're gonna leave shortly," Lisbon instructed you.
You did as you were told and about thirty minutes later, all six of you left the building. You split up: Lisbon, Grace and you took one car, Cho and Rigsby the other, and Jane drove his Citroën alone.
The car ride to Foxglove Parkway was almost silent. The three of you barely talked, whether that was because of the mission or personal problems.
Your seat in the back allowed you to observe the two women in front of you. Both of them were noticeably stressed but you were no different. What made their behavior individual, is that Lisbon seemed to be fully focused on the goal while Grace sometimes looked to be deep in thought.
It could be because of you — hell, you fucking hoped so. When this was over you would definitely need to have a talk with her. Grace was your most trusted friend and her not informing you about what was going on had hurt you more than you wanted to admit.
You decided to put your little grudge to the side for now. There were more important things to do. Besides, you could already spot the place you decided to park your cars while Jane would continue the rest of the route alone.
Speaking of which, he'd taken a different junction about five minutes ago. There wasn't any time for words of encouragement, so you could only hope that nothing bad would happen. Otherwise your last encounter with him would be engraved in your brain forever.
The car came to a stop next to the sidewalk. Lisbon contacted the others who were supposed to be six blocks away from you. "Rigsby, Cho? You guys in position?"
"Yes, boss," Cho replied from the other line.
"Alright. We'll move when Jane gives the go," she ordered before cutting the connection.
For a few minutes, none of your team's voices could be heard, until there was a clear hum from Jane.
"The game begins," he announced.
You moved forward and propped your arms on the back of the driver's and passenger's seat. Grace had set up her laptop to follow Jane's way through the satellite view.
You didn't have to wait long until Jane's voice filled the car again.
"Hey, Libson. Must have been a while since you rode on the handlebars of a man's bike."
Lisbon merely replied with a fake laugh but that didn't stop Jane from continuing. "It's kind of romantic. Wind in your hair."
"You're a sick man," she stated but you could see a tiny smirk on her face.
"5059, 5065, — Uh, there is no 5071." Jane sounded confused as he claimed this. You could hear the gravel scrape as he drove over it, presumably with a bike.
"There's nothing. It's just desert. There's no one here," you could hear him say. "Hang on," he added, making you subconsciously move closer towards the speaker and display, as if that would help you see what was going on.
"Long black limousine."
Lisbon immediately stepped into action. "We're moving in. We'll be on the scene in three minutes. Stay healthy 'till then."
"Wait. Let's just be sure," Jane began and paused to look at the arrival in front of him. "Large man with a gun. Red John's girl. This is it."
"Alright, we're moving in," Lisbon notified him and the others before starting the engine and shifting the gear.
The car got about as far as 15 feet when you were cut off by a black Chevrolet Tahoe. The tires of both automobiles screeched, announcing the almost-collision.
A man in dark clothing stepped out of the vehicle while pointing a gun in your direction.
"FBI. Turn off the car and show me your hands," he instructed.
A second man came from the other side, same clothing and a gun in hand too.
"FBI! Nobody move!"
"What the hell?!" you exclaimed, looking just as bewildered as the other women.
"You're making a terrible mistake," Lisbon told them, voice quivering.
"Get out," the first man instructed, already opening the door for her.
"We're in the middle of an operation," she added, voice growing louder. The agent didn't listen, he only pulled her out and roughly turned her around to face the car.
"Hands on the car!"
While Lisbon and Grace got manhandled, you were blessed with the choice of getting out yourself instead of being torn away. Not wanting to get your arm dislocated, you pushed the door open and were about to step out when a hand shot into your direction.
You slapped it away and faced the corresponding man.
"I can move on my own, dickhead."
"Ay! Mind your tongue," he barked, face already growing red.
You rolled your eyes and held up your hands as you stepped on the road.
"Holy cow! You're such a goshdarn uptight son of a gun," you mocked and rolled your eyes at him.
"Shut the hell up! After all, I'm the one with the handcuffs," he hissed, pulling your arms to your back and roughly putting mentioned cuffs around your wrists, accidentally pinching the skin of your right arm.
"Ow! Ever used those outside your bedroom, agent?"
It seemed as though he'd had enough of your insults because when you turned around, he was stepping away from you.
His destination seemed to be his partner, who informed him that Darcy would arrive in about no time.
Darcy, of course it was her. She had been suspicious of Jane, and therefore your whole team even before he left. It definitely fit her to use the first chance she got to take you down.
You never really got along with her, but there wasn't enough material for you to actually dislike her either. You could only hope that she would understand the situation once she got here.
Before you could be graced by her, a different car came into view. It looked identical to the one that just revealed two very impolite FBI agents to your trio.
Your speculation was proven to be true when you saw another two agents exit the car and yank out Cho, then Rigsby. All of them made their way over to where you were being held — even though the men from your team seemed to have a rather dragging pace.
Cho locked his eyes on yours once they got closer. His face was as stoic as usual but his body language showed unease.
One of the FBI agents that brought the second wave pointed to the pavement, motioning for you to sit down.
Rigsby went down first, followed by you. Who knows how long they were going to keep you here? Better rest for a little before they realize they need you to be active in the field. The other three's thought process resembled yours, as they followed your lead a few seconds later.
As promised, the woman who caused all of this appeared just a couple minutes later. She walked in nonchalantly — hands in pockets and sunglasses above her nose.
"Well, well, well."
Once Darcy made her move, Rigsby and Lisbon tried to explain immediately.
"Agent, this is a mistake."
"Agent Darcy, you don't understand. Please listen to me."
"No, I don't understand," Darcy agreed. "You're supposed to be dead, as are you. This is very strange."
Lisbon tried again. "Susan, I am begging you. Please listen to what I'm saying. Our fake deaths were a ruse to trap Red John, and it worked. Jane is with him right now, and his life is in grave danger. He's at 5071 Keston Drive."
Something seemed to shift in the woman in front of you. She pulled her hands out of her pockets to cross her arms over her chest. Skepticism was written all over her face, but she was clearly considering this option.
For a few moments, all you could hear was the hammering of your heart as it threatened to jump out of your chest. If she didn't believe Lisbon's explanation, you'd never hear from Jane again.
Finally, she nodded towards her agents. "Let them go. Get back to the cars and drive to the address. Be prepared to shoot."
Darcy turned back to face you five. "You'll follow behind in your own car. We're in charge here, but your support could be valuable."
"Thank you," Lisbon breathed, visibly exhaling and relaxing slightly.
You could feel the handcuffs being loosened and pulled away from you. The others got rid of theirs too and rubbed their wrists.
"We'll split up just like before. He won't escape this time," Lisbon remarked.
Her, Grace and you sprinted over to the car you got pulled out of just minutes ago. The moment the doors snapped shut, Lisbon was racing off. She was following the Tahoe in front of her, not checking signs or maps to see if they were on the right path.
"We should need about two minutes," Grace let you know while pulling out her laptop from under the seat. She opened it up to find the satellite map you were looking at when you were following Jane's movement.
"Let's just hope he has that long," you muttered. The gratitude from earlier vanished and was replaced by a feeling of dread. While you were only getting to his last known location, Jane could be kidnapped or even dead.
The car went silent after that. It was only when the sirens got turned on that something disrupted this quietness. The cars that they belonged to were too far away to see but it sounded like it was close by. When you turned a corner, you could spot the two chasers behind the limousine previously described by Jane.
It passed the sidewalk you had sat on before and was shot multiple times by Darcy, who had cut off its way. None of the bullets hit, until that changed and the limousine drove into gravel.
You couldn't see what happened, you only heard the shots and the abrupt stop the car made because you were too far away still.
What you did see was Jane, lying in the same gravel, resting on a pile of dirt, arm on top of his chest, but presumably not because of a wound. He looked uninjured, thank God.
Before Lisbon even had the chance to slam on the brakes of the car, you jumped out of it and quickly made your way over to Jane.
Not caring about your clothes anymore whatsoever, you decided to sit down next to him in the dirt, already checking him out for injuries you might've missed because of the distance.
Your eyes couldn't find any but you still needed him to confirm. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Never better."
His heavy breathing suggested the opposite but it was obvious he didn't want to talk about it. Instead, Jane slowly reached up to your arm and closed his hand around yours.
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
You had been back at the CBI headquarters for an hour. Jane had gotten back with his car while Lorelei was escorted by the FBI. The drive had seemed to be endless, which is why you were grateful for the opportunity to change your clothes before going back to the building. This was due to the fact that both parties — FBI and CBI — were negotiating over who would keep Lorelei.
You had walked back in feeling refreshed, but still exhausted. An overwhelming number of things had happened in a single day, so all you wished to do was get back home and sleep for as long as you could, but there was still a matter of an interrogation. Or at least, you expected it to be, judging by the heated conversation at the end of the floor.
Lisbon and Jane were talking to Bertram, Darcy, and some other people whose names you weren't aware of. You could tell by the urgency in their gestures that this was about Lorelei Martens. Both bureaus were keen on keeping the woman in their surveillance.
The moment you saw Lisbon shake Bertram's hand and move her mouth in a 'thank you' motion, it was clear who won this fight.
The fact that the CBI would hold Lorelei for now spread like fire — almost all of the building knew about it within the first five minutes. This meant that Jane would try his best to get information out of her. Lorelei was the closest he's ever been to finding out who Red John actually was.
Grace, Cho, Rigsby and you were all watching Lisbon and Jane as they came over to your desks. Lisbon stopped in the middle of the room to address you all equally.
"They're going to bring Lorelei up. Jane and I will talk to her, see if she gives something away," Lisbon informed you, before going over to debrief you about today's events. "You all did amazing today. Thank you."
"I agree. I wouldn't be here without you, so thank you," Jane added earnestly.
You nodded towards both of them, then stared down at your fiddling fingers.
"You can go home. Take the next day off if you want or come in later. Just try to rest a little," Lisbon offered, establishing eye contact with all of you.
Rigsby took that as his cue, grabbing his jacket and waving goodbye to the rest of you. "Good night, boss. See you tomorrow," he said, looking at you all for the last part.
"Good night, guys," Lisbon said, giving a tight-lipped smile before turning her back and leaving with Jane.
A few minutes passed and none of your colleagues made a move to follow Rigsby. While you were in no position to judge — seeing how you were practically glued to your seat — you still wondered what their reason was.
"You guys staying?" you asked them.
"Yeah. Wanna catch up with some paperwork so I don't have to do it tomorrow," Grace replied and sent a little smile in your direction. You returned one of your own. You could be mad at her when you actually had time to talk about it too.
"Same. I have nothing to come for tomorrow if they're out of the way," Cho explained.
"And you're staying because...?" Grace pushed, tilting her head a little to show her genuine interest.
"Actually I don't think I am." You stood up and brushed over your top. "Does anybody want something to drink? I'll make myself some tea before I leave."
"I'm good, thanks," Grace answered. You looked over at Cho. "No, thanks."
Making your way over to the kitchenette, you mentally selected the kind of tea that fit best right now. Herbal tea always did wonders for you after stressful events, so the choice was made. You filled the kettle and flipped the switch for it to start heating up. Your favourite cup, a big vermillion colored one, met your gaze when you opened the cupboard. You grabbed it and put a teabag of the herbal blend you found in. When the water was ready, you poured it over it and looked at the time to mark when it reached your desired temperature.
While you waited, you mindlessly walked through the building, trying to pass time. Toilets, roof and floor were all being explored by you as if you were seeing them for the first time. When you noticed there was only two minutes left of your mental timer, you made your way back and passed a room while doing so.
The blinds were drawn but not turned at an angle that would rule out peeking through. So logically, you stepped closer and took a look inside.
A bright t-shirt caught your attention first. It belonged to Lorelei Martens who was talking to Lisbon.
While the door was closed, the room wasn't exactly soundproof and therefore allowed you to follow the conversation if you stood close enough.
"... chance to talk to someone who knows Red John so well," you could hear Lisbon say. You seemed to have missed the beginning of the interrogation but clearly they haven't moved far yet.
"Good to meet you, too," Lorelei replied, voice so sugary sweet it almost made you nauseous. "Heard so much about you." She paused for a moment.
"We were lovers, him and me."
That wasn't something you expected to hear, but it made sense. If you were this close to Red John, you might as well hit him up or something.
"Did he tell you that?" Lorelei wanted to know. Lisbon appeared a little dumbfounded, just like you. How would Red John have told her? The only one who ever spoke to him was Jane.
"No? Why not, lover?" Lorelei asked, looking at the dark corner you hadn't inspected until now. She wasn't talking to ghosts, she spoke directly to Jane.
No. Fucking. Way.
"Are you ashamed of me? Did we do something bad?" she pushed, acting innocently and as though she was confused.
The only reason why you were still eavesdropping at this point was because you hoped that Jane would deny her statements. You needed him to do so, ideally without lying.
What you got instead was Jane ignoring what she had said, which basically confirmed it.
"I know it's hard to believe now, but you're gonna talk to us. You're gonna break down, and you're gonna tell us everything you know about Red John. You're gonna sing like a bird."
Jane moved closer while speaking and ended up directly behind her, his hands resting on her shoulders.
"No, lover. I won't."
You were sure that Lorelei wasn't aware of you, but it still felt like she was taunting you by calling Jane that. Hearing her — an accomplice of Red John — refer to Jane, who confessed his love to you merely hours before, as lover, felt like a dagger in your heart.
"Yes, you will," Jane countered, moving down to kiss the crown of her head, making you turn on your heel and leaving the spot instantly.
You were back at your desk in no time, gathering your things in a hurry and leaving without saying goodbye. The only way you would make it out of here without a breakdown was by blocking out thoughts and feelings, and rushing out as fast as you could.
Grace and Cho watched you almost sprint away and shot each other weird looks, but you didn't care enough to notice. What you also didn't notice was Jane, who merely saw a few strands of your hair before the elevator closed behind you.
He immediately went to Grace and Cho to ask about your abrupt departure, only to receive shrugs as answer. It dawned on him that you likely listened to the conversation with Lorelei.
He decided he'd have to do something, immediately.
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
Going to your small apartment was never an option. It felt empty and oppressive, as if the walls were closing in on you. You needed space. Being outside was the only thing that spoke to you, which is why you found yourself on the Fair Oaks Bridge about half an hour after leaving the bureau.
You often visited the Fair Oaks in times like these. The community in Sacramento County offered nature, support, and most importantly freedom — even if that only lasted for one night. Whenever you came here, some kind of event had happened, whether that was social problems, doubt in yourself or a general sense of negativity.
If you needed to drown your thoughts with drinks, you went to a bar.
If you needed to munch on something to forget about your sorrows, you visited a café or diner.
If you needed to think and be alone with yourself, you went up to the bridge.
You had propped your arms on the railing, hands clasped together and hovering in the air. It was just an hour before midnight, which made itself known through a dark sky and the cold wind that mussed up your hair.
All you did since coming here was thinking about Patrick Jane. Jane this, Jane that — everything Jane. Curse him for occupying such a high amount of your thoughts.
In fact, you had started this self destroying mechanism right when you got in the car. On top of that, it wasn't only thinking, no, you had been crying like a baby, unable to shut up for nearly the whole drive. While the events of the whole day had fueled your tears, the main reason for them was one man. A man you loved and trusted. A man who told you he loved you, and whose words you believed — until you witnessed a conversation that revealed him to be a lover to a criminal.
Your opinion on him had shifted, but you couldn't figure out where. He'd left you for six months, came back, excluded you, explained that the reason for this was his love to you and then almost caressed this woman who he had fucked just days ago. A small part of you clung onto the hope that his confession was real, that he actually loved you and that he only wanted to protect you, but it seemed stupid to even consider this option.
What you could certainly and confidently say was that you felt betrayed. This betrayal didn't seem to erase the feelings you had for him, but it for sure made you try to get rid of them. How could you love a man that only uses people, including you?
Your spiraling was interrupted by the sound of footsteps. It wasn't unusual for people to cross the bridge, or even linger on it like you were doing now, but you still hoped that they would pass soon. You needed to dwell on your loneliness.
"I thought I might find you here," the person behind you said. Clearly it wasn't a stranger like you had assumed, rather the person you wanted to see the least at this moment.
You ignored Jane and kept on staring down at the calm water. You prayed that he would take on the clue and leave, but he didn't. Instead, he moved closer, stopped at your right side and copied the position you found yourself in.
"Go away, Jane," you mumbled, still not gracing him with eye contact.
"I won't."
"Figures," you sighed.
Jane straightened up and turned towards you. "We need to talk."
"We don't need to talk. If you feel the need to, I can't stop you, but I'm not going to waste anymore words tonight."
"I want to apologize."
You chuckled dryly.
"For everything," he added and looked down at his shoes. "You listened to the conversation with Lorelei, didn't you?"
A small nod.
"It wasn't anything like that, I promise you."
"Oh really?" you hissed, turning towards him. "Because to me it sounded like you had a lot of fun with your lover."
"She wasn't my lover. And I wasn't hers."
"Did you sleep with her?"
"Yes, but-"
"Jane, what is your definition of that word? If you slept with her, you were her lover, just like she said. Why are you denying it?"
"Because it wasn't like that."
"Now you're repeating yourself."
"But I mean it. I met Lorelei at a bar. She approached me, we talked, and then ended up at a hostel. I knew she was sent by Red John. She did it for him. If we spent the night together, I could gain her trust and therefore that of Red John. She brought me closer to him, which was the plan all along. It didn't mean anything besides that."
Jane's eyes didn't leave yours as he explained. He needed to show you that this was the truth.
When he was done, it was silent again. His words made sense. You knew his life goal was to catch the serial killer that slaughtered his family, so going after him even through unconventional ways was something Jane would do. You didn't want to admit it, but you understood.
"Fuck," you breathed, stretching out the vowel. You crossed your arms over your chest as if to protect yourself. You were fully facing each other now, pairs of eyes boring into one another.
"Jane, I don't even know what to say," you whispered and wiped your eyes with your sleeve. You didn't start crying yet, you just wanted to scratch the itch in order to prevent it.
"I feel like a toy to you. You only keep yourself occupied with me when you feel like it and then put me back in a box when you're done. I don't know when you lie and I don't even know when you want to be around me. As we now know, you can easily go without me. How does all this match with a love confession? You're either a complicated mystery or a chronic liar. Tell me which one it is."
Your demand was left ignored, as was your trembling voice, which you were grateful for.
"I'm sorry for making you feel that way. I truly am. I lie for convenience sometimes, and I feel terrible whenever you're the one that gets hit by those lies, but I didn't lie today."
Jane stepped closer and put his hands on your shoulder, just like he did with Lorelei. The only difference was that he stood in front of you and gave you a look of sincere regret.
"I meant what I said," he stated, squeezing your shoulders one time, but your previously dropped gaze didn't move up.
"Please," he whispered, voice breaking. "I love you."
Your head nearly jerked up at this. You knew what he had been referring to but you didn't expect him to repeat it. He never really expressed his feelings, but today he did it twice — once because you pushed, once because he needed you to know.
The moment your gaze met his, you saw how wet his eyes were. That would make two of you.
Your lips began to quiver and you could feel your throat starting to hurt. A single tear made its way down your cheek but it was soon followed by what felt like a waterfall.
Your left hand met his cheek and you pulled him closer. For a moment, you simply stood there, only a few centimeters apart yet so far away at the same time. You didn't need words to communicate when your eyes were fit for the job. Your breaths mingled in the cold air, creating a visual display of unity.
You pulled your other hand to his neck, pushing him further towards you and connecting your foreheads. You were leaning on one another, a perfect picture of your dependency.
Jane's hands slowly traveled from your shoulders to your face, only stopping when they reached the soft flesh of your cheeks. He looked like he was gathering his words, ready to say something, but you beat him to it.
"Stop being so hard to read," you pleaded and finally closed the distance between the two of you.
Your lips collided with his in a desperate kiss. Months of tension released itself in it and charged it even more. You felt Jane's palms shift upwards, holding your face like it was something precious. His cologne invaded your nostrils: a woody and spicy scent that fit him perfectly. His lips felt amazing against yours, moving perfectly and allowing you to set the pace. You could taste the remnants of the same herbal tea you had back at the building.
The natural silence of your surroundings was only interrupted by the noise your bodies and clothes made. You could hear the sound of the cotton that decorated your skin when the back of Jane's hand brushed against it.
While you managed to keep some space between your bodies, your faces told a different story. Just like before, your foreheads were pressed together, but now your mouths seemed to be melting into one another. What added to this was the way you both clung to each other, hands gripping and nails digging. It felt as though you would lose the feeling and sense of the other if you let go. The only thing you could do was hold each other with all your strength, force and support.
You were aware of how hard you pushed Jane's cheeks but you didn't care, and neither did he. The kiss only intensified at your squeezing and clutching.
Jane must be tasting salt, judging by the amount of tears you had shed, but salt can be addictive and it seemed to be doing just that, because Jane kept kissing your swelling lips.
You felt yourself whimper against him and physically sink into his warm chest. Your lips tore away from his so that you could let your head fall onto his shoulder. Your arms followed close behind and encircled his throat. An exhausted huff escaped your mouth and you closed your eyes.
Jane hugged you back and pulled you closer into him. While his left hand rested against your hip, his right came up to gently brush through your hair. He pressed a kiss on your scalp and carefully rested his head on yours.
"Jane?" you called, voice muffled by his suit jacket.
"Yeah?"
"I love you too."

"Yeah?"
"I love you too."

notes: I feel like this story actually sucked the life out of me, but I'm so happy now that it's done. Shoutout to my proofreader who probably read this as many times as me (which was extremely tiring).
