I collected my 3D biscuit holders from my cousin’s husband this weekend. As he lives in Aylesbury, I wasn’t able to get them until today. However the first design for the AB blood group was handed in in time. The AB holder doesn’t have the ‘+’ and ‘-’ as it would of made the box too long.

Should of got vinyl stickers for my donor bag done in the first place. Much better result. Courtesy of Hippo Screenprinters.
FMP Evaluation
After months of research, ideas, ups and downs, hand in is upon me.
The work I have produced, I’m very proud of. Those who know me, understand how important blood donation is to me, and I believe I have produced a strong body of work that reflects that. I want to expand my project further outside of college, and hopefully get in contact with the NHS to show them. My developement in to the area of educating children has potential. Many go with family relatives and are facsinated by giving blood. After all, they are the next generation of blood donors.
The item I’m most proud of is my little donor book. I love looking at my Mum’s old donor card, and I wanted to capture that old style with today’s. After tweeting around 70 people, the responses I got were overwhelming. Without their contributions the book could not of be made. Their tweets epitomise what I wanted to say, as their accounts are real, on point and honest.
My Donor bag idea I love, but getting my logo and text on the front proved to be more tricky than I anticipated. The lack of information about their timekeeping from the company I was going to use caused a bit of an upset, but I have tried other options, and I have opted for vinyl stickers to be placed on to the bag. I thought it to be interesting to show the blood donation process through the items in the bag, rather than just a range of posters/Leaflets. Especially with the use of the water bottles and the hand warmer.
Not getting anywhere after contacting NHS Blood and Transplant, I had to work with the research I could get myself from the internet, blood donor session visits and from social media. My visit to a donor session back on the first Bank Holiday of May proved to be extremely beneficial. I was given permission when other times declined, to sit at the refreshment table and speak to people who had literally just donated blood, to ask them to write down how they felt while giving blood. A couple had just donated for the first time, so their comments were vital to my project.
Along the journey of this project I have learned to appreciate more, just how hard the nurses work, as well as pay to hire venues that the sessions take place at and the refreshments they give out at the end. As a regular donor, I thought I knew a lot about blood donation, but this wasn’t the case. I feel blessed to have been closely exposed to this simple life saving procedure. Learning facts and figures not just during a session, but also with the use of the blood afterwards has helped to guide me in the right direction to develop my work. Even going as far back as my survey in September last year, gave me an insight in to what people didn’t know, such as how long it takes to give blood and how many lives one donation can save. The catalyst for my logo.
If I had the time to do anything again, I probably would of got my experimentation done a bit earlier. I especially found the marbling very enjoyable and profitable in the long run. I also would of pushed more in getting in contact with somebody within the NHS about their advertising. It worked for me at the blood donor sessions. Just speaking to that one person at the correct moment makes all the difference.
Hopefully I have fulfilled my brief with the work I have produced, in helping people to understand the process of giving blood.

Final preparations for my hand in. Had a back step with my donor bag. The London Embroidery Studio whom I found to do the sewing for my bag, informed me that it wouldn’t be ready for collection until possibly the end of Thursday!!!! Had to cancel the job as I couldn’t take the chance of it not being done. Had help making a good mock up for hand in to put in my sketch book.
Will look into the possibility of hest press on to material to cover the bag, if not Vinyl stiskers.

Finished my stages adverts, being my anti/comedy campaign., and collected my finished book from Shepherds Bookbinders. I’m so happy with it. Worth every penny.

From the research I got from the donor session this week, I have created my marbling adverts from the point of view from the donor, and my refreshments adverts, expresssing the length of time donating and then at the refreshments table.

Finished the designs of my water bottles for my donor bag.

I attended a blood donor session at Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club, where I was kindly given permission to sit at the refreshments table and get information from people who had just donated blood. This information I will be putting together with my marbling prints. I also took some photos of my surroundings including the donor chairs, machines, bisuits, milk etc.

Screen printing completed for my hand warmer and stress ball. My donor bag didn’t come out as well. The white wasn’t strong enough. Will need to rethink my options.

Work in photoshop came out great. Added warm and red filters to the scans, and then used the magic wand to select random parts and then deleted them.
