Puts a box on your door step knocking and running away!
He raised an eyebrow and pushed up his glasses, looking around to see any trace of nefarious intent to the package.
Hm, alright...
He brought it inside to open up.
*as the small box was opened a men in red and sliver jumps out his hat jingles cheerfully* “hello! How can I make you smile today?”
Li did not get startled very frequently. But, in this moment, he assuredly was. Though he hardly jumped back, merely flinching, his eyes went wide and his glasses slid on his nose.
…My word…
Good… Good afternoon. You’re… some sort of entertainer?
“Only the best around!” *He had a wide smile made fuller with the red makeup smile*
He darted his eyes around the costume, pushing his glasses up as a silent agreement to consider his interest piqued.
Curious. And you come with a business proposition? I doubt you simply desire a personal matter.
“But I do! I’m here to make you smile that’s it no strings attached I promise.” *He presented his pink for pinky swear*
He held his hands up, more in surrender than to offer his pinky back.
I believe you.
Make me smile… Hm. Well, I suppose you can… give me a sample of your tricks.
“Oh yay!” *He jumped out of the box and confetti popped out of his hands* “Okay so your file says you’re more of a downer but that won’t stop me.”
He was already a little impressed by the confetti, though his management-oriented mind already wander to think about cleaning it up afterwards.
However, the remark on his personality snapped him out of his concentration. He blushed a bit and readjusted his glasses.
O-Oh, I… I’m glad that would not stop you.
*The confetti fell into the box* “of course it won’t.” *he flipped and fell back into his box disappearing before a tiny ballon dog jumped out*
He slowly leaned over the box as the man disappeared. He recoiled as the balloon was revealed, but immediately gasped.
F-For me? Oh, that is… very nice.
He gave a covert little smile. He was quite enamored by the quaint gift.
Good craftsmanship.
He examined the detail of the knots.
*The dog squeezed and squeaked before the jester jumped out again with more balloons* “ha-ha! Yes any requests? You know ballon work was my major in college.”
He chuckled at that.
Really? How impressive. It’s good to see someone so passionate in their field.
Hm… How about a… Could you make a whale?
*He spins around with a smile* “a whale of course!” *Moving his ballon’s around and around getting the tail and extra details* “I must say there was a lot of fuse between me and the others to do a gag with you but you are a great hoot!” *He presented the whale*
He stood patiently while he crafted it, quite excited at the notion. He never let himself have any fun, this was rare indulgence.
He paused, however, at the story. It was hard not to fixate on the idea of a threatening conspiracy against him.
A gag?
He took the whale.
Hm. This is very good. Thank you. I’m sure you don’t get aquatic requests often.
“It’s a term we use for our people.” *He nodded and smiled* “No not really but one kid asked for a tree really a waste of my talents.”
Ah. I understand.
That alleviated his worry. Though, he could now understand why there would be fuss. He wasn’t a very excitable person.
He held the whale to his chest, giving a slight mischievous smirk to that.
Strange child. I suppose that would be similar to those flowers balloonists make…
You do work on the street, or gigs usually?
He couldn’t help but think about the business side of things. Perhaps that wasn’t fun for other people, but work was his ‘hobby.’
“Yes I supposes so.” *He moved and shook his head violently his hat ringing* “no street work for me im afraid the big man seems to think im too good for it.”
He was startled by the loud jingling, which made him pay attention to the words more.
A big man, you say? Interesting. You certainly do seem talented enough to be a solo act.
He examined and held up the whale balloon to emphasize that.
“Oh and I can do much more than just ballon’s! I can do cards.” *He pulled out a deck and shuffled it showing the cards forward and backwards then onto one ace* “Oh Oh! And coins!” *He moved flipping the card into a coin and did the ‘coin in your ear trick’ and then turned that coin into a hundred bucks handing it over* “you like puppets?”
That was quite the array of back-to-back tricks. His eyes darted behind the rims of his glasses to the cards and coin. He was shocked by the amount of money he produced. He feared the performer may have needed the money more than he did.
That’s a lot of magic.
He smirked a bit at the silly idea.
I suppose I’ve never really thought of them before. But please, show me.
“Ya see that’s why I take personal people! Too much talent to waste on the street.” *He moved back in his box his upper body dipping in until only his legs and bell dond shoes showed* “Hold on!” *His voice echoed* “It’s been a bit since I’ve used these.”
Please, take your time.
He chuckled to himself at the display.
With his back turned, he spent greater time mulling over the details of the box and performer, theorizing where such a person could have trained.
*The box was red and wrapped in a false sliver bow. It was a bit damaged a debt or too maybe from a kick or a throw but besides that it was clean* “Hm…Ah ha!” *he wiggled his feet and pulled himself up with a box of old theater puppets.*
He hummed in contemplation to himself. Seems like the guy had been at it for a bit, but had dedication to looking professional.
Ah, bravo.
He nodded and gave a polite clap to finding them.
Quite the supply you have down there. I wonder how it all fits inside.
“Ha me too sometimes!” *He dusted himself off* “now I can give you an old story or a new one…we can play with the puppets together?” *trying to give everything they could do a puppet gave a jerk in the box*
Uh...
He looked off to the side, following the sound of the jerking.
I believe I'm a little old to play with puppets. Perhaps you can tell me your favorite story.
“Oh!” *he claps stiffly with the box still in his hand he moved at got out a cast of characters* “how about a classic? The princess and the pea!”
Ah, that is a good one. Very well. Let's see it.
He re-situated himself in place, preparing to focus on the story.
*He moved and put one arm in his box getting out a tiny theater and then quickly made a ballon chair* “There we are!” *He cleared his throat getting everything set up nice and neat*
Wow...
He knew he had been impressed a lot during this whole ordeal, but he truly had never seen a person this familiar with showmanship and its tools.
He nodded, implying he was ready to watch.
*He moved starting the play his voice changed to from a childlike to a soft narration. Beginning the story he moved the puppets easily. There was a bunch of attention to detail on them with the clothes to the background*
He listened along to the familiar story. He wondered if the man made the puppets himself. Perhaps he should ask when the show was finished.
It was hard not to feel inspired by such an old medium being breathed with passionate life... Roman would have liked it. His eyes downturned for a moment. He didn't usually have time to think about his lost boss... and he certainly didn't want that to show now. Perhaps he could amend this void in his heart by offering the showman an opportunity to perform at their company. He would imagine the lobbyists to enjoy something like this.
Mm.
*There was the bed scene with cardboard cut and painted made so well the mountains of beds looked soft saved for a tiny bump so small if you hadn’t known it was meant to be there you’d miss it. And as it always goes the poor lost tired girl moves climbing up bed after bed until she gets to the top and lays down unaware of the tiny little pea*
He squinted and readjusted his glasses to look for the little thing among the mattresses.
Very well done.
He muttered to himself. He wouldn't mind if the performer heard that, though he knew it was rude to speak during a show.
*He smiled which could be seen through a small creak in the back drop. He refocused himself continuing with the girl waking upset and he had changed the dolls hair to now be unkept. She grumbled or at least her body language said as much as she stomped down the latter to get off the beds*
It was so expressive. It reminded him of the mask work the company did, and Roman adored. Hm... Maybe if the performer was the craftsman, that could be another potential resource to employ. Li's mind always went to these things.
*the puppet girl moved and went to the prince shaking in wooden rage the queen quickly came to explain the situation and the girl relaxed a bit and the backdropped changed to one of a great wedding a switch of costumes for the puppets a great dress and tuxe*
Li chuckled. The story made sense, but it was funny to imagine her getting married after being so angry. He clapped, like he was one of the guests at the wedding himself, happy for the new couple.
Bravo.
*He stood up and bowed* “thank you! Thank you!” *His voice going be to normal*
That was positively wonderful. I don't think I've seen a puppet show quite like it. Do you make these puppets yourself?
“It’s a bit of me and other puppet makers I do make the customs!”
Ah, the costumes are perhaps the nicest part.
He smiled warmly.
You have a real talent here. You don't find many skilled costumers these days- Do trust me. I have to hire a lot of them.
“You have? Why?” *He wonders himself as he begins to put away the puppets*
Ah. I work for a cosmetics company. That lends itself to needing models and designers for the marketing.
He straightened his glasses as he explained. The performer didn’t seem to know what he did for a living, at least partially, but did know Li’s temperament. He wondered who tipped the man off to Li, or hired him for this show.
“Ah! Hm that seems fun!” *He clapped* “now what else to do…uh puzzles? Word searches? I’m not too good at them but I’m welling to try!”
Thank you. If you ever are interested in perhaps what we do, I can give you my card.
He fished in his pocket for his business card. His eyes brightened at the suggested activities.
I w-would love to do puzzles.
*He smiled and took the card putting it under his hat before he moved and got out a 1000 piece puzzle* “let’s see hm cats? Dogs? Letters?”
He smirked at the endearing notion that he kept important things in his hat.
Almost childishly, Li moved to sit on the ground to prepare for the puzzle.
I believe I’d like… the cat one.
“Nice choice!” *he moved sitting down with a cat in coffee cups puzzles* “hm okay let’s get this going…” *He noted sitting on the floor and he moved getting out two fluffy pillows* “here we go! Let’s sit on these.”
Ah, why thank you.
He couldn’t help but smile sheepishly. Two of his favorite things, his morning coffee and the similarly-attituded cats.
He moved to sit on the cushion, nodding and giving a thumbs up to show how comfortable it was.
This is wonderful.
“Good good!” *he nodded and moved opening the puzzle* “alright.” *He rubbed his hands together they were also panted the same color as his face*
Such attention to detail… This man was a true professional.
Here we go.
He moved to sort through the pile and look for corner pieces.
*he moved watching and got to picking out all the cat parts* “cats are great pets do you have any? Or would like any?”
They are quite pleasant. No. I do not. Hm… I would enjoy its company, but I’m never home. I wouldn’t be able to care for it.
That seemed to make him sad.
“Ah well I know how you feel the only animals we can keep are talking ones that can holahoop. I hope one day you can settle down enough to own a kitty.”
He smiled softly, pressing together a few edge pieces of the puzzle.
I wish the same for you. Thank you- Oh, I don’t believe I’ve asked your name.
“Oh uh…” *He thought for a moment out of all the magical things he’d done today it seemed as though that simple question stopped him*
He raised his brow, surprised at that.
It’s alright if you can’t tell me. In this town, I understand a name can be dangerous.
“No no I had it.” *He pats at his jester suit* “hm maybe I put it in my pocket?” *sighed* “gosh I’m sorry I just lose that thing so darn easily!”
O-Oh… No worries.
Strange. He didn’t remember his own name? Or was he that dedicated to his stage-name?
“Hm good then uh just call me Jack if you have to have a name.” *He went back to the puzzle* “you know like Jack of all trades. Ha.”
He gave a polite smirk to that pun.
Very well then, Jack. Nice to properly make your acquaintance.
He could start to see the bottom of a mug in his section of the puzzle.
May I ask how you came to find me?
“Yours too David.” *He nodded* “well like I said I’m more of a personal work men but the big man tells me where to go and I go. Ain’t much more to it.”
He was caught off guard by the use of his first name. He smiled however, at it.
Mm… I see. I hesitate to ask who you work for.
He didn’t want the performer to get in trouble. But, he hoped it wasn’t another crime lord.
“Well I call him Big man as you know but some call him the manger his wife just class him George but they have made a rocky relationship since the start.” *He puts together a cat he frowns a bit his paint is good for hiding it but it can just barley be seen*
George… Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.
He wondered how much of that relationship interfered with the treatment of workers. He interrupted the sorrowed moment.
Hey, look at that. Our first cat.
“Ah yes! Amazing!” *he clapped*
Perfect. You’re a natural at this. I must say, I do enjoy a good puzzle when I have the time. A quiet activity that soothes the soul, mm?
*He nods his head in agreement his head ringing* “Hm usually don’t enjoy them as much as this but I’ve got to tell you this is a hoot!”
He chuckled.
I'm glad to hear it. I suppose it isn't for everyone. Can be 'boring.'
Uh... Thank you... for doing this with me. I can't say it isn't strange, but I'm enjoying this.
He looked at his watch, counting how long he could count this for as his lunch break.
*The watch changed to a ballon one just as detailed as the regular one* “”Of course! I’m just glad you aren’t a screaming child.”
He gasped, going a little pale at the change. When he spoke of magic, he thought of it more like the party-trick sort.
H-How-...?!
*He looked up from the cat stuck into a coffee cup* “hm? Oh the watch?” *Jack looked to it and tapped the plastic his nail turned sharp and he popped it changing the watch back* “sorry happens to the best of us.”
Thanks... You're... uh... one of those... meta-people, then?
He made note of the sharpness of the nail. The man didn't seem violent, but it was good to know that he was capable of it.
Or... a group of... magic carnies?
“Meta? I don’t know. Magic carines more likely.” *He went back to the puzzle* “I mean I like the term entertainer but carnie works too.”
A-Ah. Apologies. That was rude of me...
He bit his lip, looking down at the puzzle, thinking about how more often he was encountering people with abilities.
My... boss can do unorthodox things, like you.
“Really? He shows you puppet shows too?”
That made him laugh out loud.
No. Well-... No, he doesn't. He's an engineer. He works with machines.
*Jack smiled brightly* “really? Hm that is something cool!”
Yes, quite. I'm sure he would be very impressed with your puppets. He likes his automatons. I'm not familiar myself, but they seem similar, in a way.
He moved over a corner piece to connect Jack's cat to the border.
Of course, his abilities do not relate to his profession... He can read minds.
“Automans and reading minds…gosh you know I knew a kid that was like that…no that was the fifty’s.” *He mumbles to himself*
He stopped his puzzling to look intently at Jack. Kilroy would fit the time frame if both these men had the same unusual time period jumps.
Did you now? How old are you, again?
“Hm about two hundred if my math is correct.” *He counted on his fingers*
...
He should have been grateful that any doubt was squashed by such a number.
I... suppose that explains your passions for less modern techniques. T-Though, I don't mean to discredit your work.
“No disrespect taken.” *He waved it away*
Puts a box on your door step knocking and running away!
He raised an eyebrow and pushed up his glasses, looking around to see any trace of nefarious intent to the package.

Ha.”
