Alright, I’ve seen a lot of people freaking out over this tweet

From this particular post it seems that people are afraid that, given how the fight between Oberyn and the Mountain in Game of Thrones ended-with Oberyn’s death- Lexa might have the same fate, or worse even. But what with ‘only better’ Carla Day is not saying that the fight is more epic/shocking, but simply… it literally ends better??

And now I’m just gonna rant because that’s what I do.

Let’s think about the Game of Thrones duel. Oberyn fights with the Mountain because he wants revenge after the man horribly murdered his sister, following the orders of Tywin Lannister. And when he is finally this close to getting justice for his sister, Oberyn ends up being killed by the Mountain. The fight is considered one of the highlights of the show, but still, the end leaves a bad taste in your mouth, because justice was not done, and the ‘bad guy’ won.

Now let’s talk about the Lexa/Roan fight scene. If you haven’t done it already, go read this beautiful analysis made by my lovely @hedaswarrior. I 100% agree with it. Let’s assume that it is correct, and Lexa chooses to fight to allow the Skaikru into the Coalition, with Clarke as their leader. Roan instead fights for the Ice Nation. But what if he is not only chosen because he is a skilled warrior? What if Queen Nia picks him specifically for another reason, a smarter, slyer one? What if Roan is the one who, following Nia’s orders, tortured and killed Costia?

Nia might choose to make him fight against Lexa because she knows what Costia meant to her. She hopes that having to face this particular man, Lexa might lose focus because of her emotions, and succumb eventually.

See the comparison? Now, following this reasoning, Roan should end up killing Lexa and winning the fight. But maybe this is where Carla Day’s “only better” comes in. Lexa is the one who defeats Roan, and this not only allows her to put an end to the dispute, but also to get justice (or some form of it) for Costia. Maybe the ‘better’ refers to this duel being not simply well choreographed and shocking, but instead more emotional and with a happy outcome for once. This show sure needs more happy endings…

Well thought out theory. Enjoyed reading. I won’t comment specifically on the fight scene, though I will say that my initial tweet was in reference to multiple events and themes of 304 which are GOT-like only better. GOT is a fantasy world, while The 100 exists in “reality” which heightens the consequences.

That being said, I think it's important that we can establish relationships for Oliver, specific relationships with female characters which don't involve him sleeping with them. Right? There are real relationships that exist in the world where men and women can work together without going 'home' together or having sex on the floor of the Arrow cave. I don't know. I doubt it, but I will never say never and I don't write the show.”
