This is the first content update for Card Crawl. Based on your feedback and input we have added several new features to the game. In addition to 10 new ability cards we added avatar cards and dealers which can be unlocked through special quests. Two new game modes will bring some additional challenges and we also updated some of the existing ability cards to be more relevant in the context of all new cards. We hope you enjoy the new content and we encourage you to rate and review the game after the update! Happy Crawling! *** Updated ability cards: Leech - updated to a base value of 3 Steal - every card from the backpack can be sold Lash - updated to only hit Monsters Lucky Shot - can hit up to 2 targets Morph - morphed cards cap at a value of 10 Exchange - randomly draws one of your ability cards Midas Scarf - coin cards from monsters will only have halve their value, ability cards will double it Potionize - creates a potion of random value Bash - a shield will lose 5 durability per attack Fortify - affects all cards with numbers Reflect - while active a redraw will be reflected New ability cards: Devour, Trap, Life, Bleed, Suicide, Blood Pact, Bounty, Equalize, Grave Digger, Mirror Streak-Mode Once you have unlocked all ability cards the Streak-Mode will be available. In Streak-Mode each consecutive win will be counted and a total score over all won games will be recorded. A new Game-Center Highscore will be available. Daily Dungeon The Daily Dungeon will be a Dungeon Deck that can be played only one time. Each player will face the same deck and a new deck is created each day. A special Highscore for each particular deck will be available. Quests A new Quest screen will give you access to three new Avatar cards (Archer, Assassin, Woodlouse-Lord) and 2 two new Dealers (Alchemist, Undead). Each new Item has two Quests associated that need to be done in order to unlock. Smaller Features In addition to some new Monster and Sword illustrations we also added a save state that will help to prevent abandoned games due to the app closing in the background. A small Statistic-Menu will give you some information about win/loss ratios for each mode. Additionally we fixed several bugs and made smaller UI improvements.

Hello Card Crawlers, with the recent release of version 1.6 we are trying to tidy up everything we could not fit into our release version. Card Crawl now runs on the new Unity 5 engine and we could squeeze out plenty of performance on older devices. We still do have some nasty memory spikes here and there, especially in the trophy room where huge lists of game objects are loaded in a few frames. Still we are trying to optimize the game here and there to make the crashes theoretically disappear on all devices out there. What’s next? After our first two updates, update #3 will be the anxiously awaited content update. Since release we had and still have plenty of ideas how to build upon Card Crawls core and extending it further. Since we want bring new content pretty soon (2-3 Month after release) and being only a two person team we had to scope down our ideas for update #3 a little bit. Non the less we will bring some interesting things for the coming version which some of we want to talk about today. Game Modes Based on your feedback we have already implemented two additionally game modes. The first one is a classic „Daily Dungeon“ mode where each day one Dungeon gets created and you will get one attempt to clear this dungeon. The Daily Dungeon is based on the normal mode where you will get 5 random ability cards that will help you on your crawl. Each Dungeon will have it’s own Highscore which will be cleared with each new day. The second game mode, which is not a new mode per se, is the Streak-Mode. A lot of people complained about that the normal mode is flawed in a way that you can not unlock the weaker cards thus making it super easy to get big scores with only good cards unlocked. The second thing with the normal mode is that you can restart a dungeon as often as you like until you get a very good hand and then this one hand will get you in the Highscore. For those of you who raised those complains Streak-Mode is for you. We integrated Streak-Mode into the normal mode. Once the player has collected all ability cards Streak-Mode will be unlocked. From there on for each consecutive won game in normal mode you will get an accumulated total score. Once you lose, your streak ends and you have to start again. Streak-Mode will get its own Game-Center Highscore to harass your friends. Ability Card overhaul Since release we have started to adjust some of the cards in order to balance out some of the design changes we did. Lash was nerfed and Swap was buffed. Again based on your wonderful feedback with update #3 we are going to overhaul some of the „old“ cards. Here are some spoilers: Lash - Attack up to three monster cards for 3. Potionize - Transform an item card into a random potion card. Lucky Shot - Remove up to two randomly selected dungeon cards. Midas Scarf - Transform a card into a coin card. Monster cards halve their value, ability cards double it. Bash - Use an equipped shield as a weapon. Each attack the shield loses 5 durability. We buffed Lash a bit to only attack monster cards making more predictable. Potionize has a new random component where you can raise the value of a card now. Lucky Shot can hit two targets buffing its potential strength quite a bit. Midas Scarf got a nerf where monster will give you only halve their value, but it can hit ability cards with values too. Also we buffed Bash quite a lot since a lot of people identified it as the weakest card so far. Bash’s mechanic is completely new and it should be a really interesting card now in combination with other cards which can raise a card’s value. These are just a few of the coming changes. New Ability Cards In addition to the overhaul of old cards we are going to bring 10 new ability cards into the game. Since Card Crawl has a quite tight design we have to work in it’s constraints when creating new cards. Still it has some points where we can build new interesting card mechanics up on. We do not want to spoiler the new cards yet but we can give out a small teaser for now: Bounty - Collect 1 gold for each monster slain until this card gets drawn. New Dealer Even though we all love Hoerni introducing new dealer is also on our list. We can not give you any detail information on what we have planned here since we are still deciding on what could be cool. But we are working on it right now. Summary These are some of the new things we are planning on for update #3. We know that a lot of people we’re demanding for completely new decks, but we have to take this with care. Designing new Dungeon decks is not an easy task and the balance which went into it was not trivial. Still we want to see what we can do in terms of new Decks, but due to the time we have for the update we will not bring any new decks for now. Hello Card Crawler, update no. 2 includes several bug fixes and mainly big performance improvements. The game had some serious memory issues on older devices such as the iPhone 4, iPad 2 or the iPad Mini 1. Most of these issues should be fixed with version 1.6. Thanks for reporting all your issues and helping us to improve the game. Games are based on games as movies are based on movies, songs on songs and so on. With the recent release of Card Crawl (and its broad distribution) quite some irritation on where the game takes it’s inspiration stirred up on Twitter. Starting with Aliceffect showcasing his new game Donsol, which seems to be quite similar to Card Crawl and a follow up discussion by Zach and later also Kurt who made Scoundrel (Card Crawls inspiration). We always tried to be transparent in where we took the inspiration from, which was mainly Scoundrel but also Hearthstone (Blizzard), Magic (Wizzards of the Coast / Richard Garfield), Cubic Space (Adam Saltsman) but also several analogue Card-Gamedesigns such as this idea: Dungeon Crawl which also dates back to 2011, Dungeon Crawler or Cutthroat Caverns The point is taking inspiration from other games is a valid way to start your own design. We are confident that the design of Card Crawl has evolved into something very different from the original Scoundrel idea. Non the less it should be clear that we have to thank and credit Kurt and Zach for inspiring us to create something in the same Genre. Additionally i think that all the games Scoundrel, Card Crawl and Donsol can exists side by side each in their own unique way of bringing the card based dungeon crawler to the players.
