Kaukas coos curiously as he looks around for his darling mate and child.
Damien was curled up beneath the roots of a tree, Xerxes sleeping soundly. His ears prick up as he hears his mate, careful not to move the child too much as he slipped out of the den.
“Kaukas?” He looked around tiredly, not seeing the other yet.
“D.. Damien..” the bird called out, voice cracking as his eyes welled up with tears. He already knew what he had done to his poor family. He should have fought the strange blackout he had, but what could he have done?
“Damien, please..” he repeats, stepping over and squeezing into the burrow, nuzzling his mate. What had he done? how long had be been gone? Kaukas didn’t want to know, but he had to take care of his family. It was a promise he made.
He cooed some more in his throat as he rubbed his nose against the top of the ground-hound’s head, then nuzzling his child. Fear sat heavy in his gut, like a bad meal he couldn’t digest or expel.
