There were multiple other comments that I feel important to mention, but not fully put: somebody mentioned that the reason this might be is the fact that AMS already did the Donner party or they might be saving the cannibalistic killer for lust. Commenting maybe one of the reasons that HH homes was chosen is that it’s not homes itself but the house that is the gluttonous one the consuming and home is just feeding it. Another comment mentioned about it being linked with Jack and the beanstalk, the full comment here “@Motleydoll123 • 1mo ago Its interesting how each single frames a killer in the manner of a monster. With h.h. holmes framed as a kind of gluttonous fairytale giant with his murder castle as the monster beast that consumes the lives of others. And it’s kind of fitting for him as gluttony, since he was never truely satisfied.”

Honestly, I really love all these points about HH homes and the choice of him being for gluttony. So typically when we associate the sin of gluttony in Christianity, we think of over eating, but gluttony can be more realistically understood as overconsumption past one’s needs, typically at the expense of oneself or others. In this definition, I think Holmes fits gluttony really really well.

While homes is most known for his murder castle in Chicago, murder was not the main focus of homes, it was fraud and screaming. Especially in American consciousness we remember homes as this mass serial killer who exploited the joys and wonders of the Chicago fair to his benefit. Who killed hundreds of people. but in reality, we actually don’t know how many people homes killed. Some estimates put it at like over 100 some only 4. homes is not a serial killer in the traditional sense, comparative to people like Bundy or Dahmer more modernly, homes only really killed when people started to figure out the act or got too close to the act.

This ladder part also leads me to think that potentially the woman that we hear about in the HH home songs that he killed didn’t get murdered because homes were just like randomly going to kill her, but what if when homes was bringing her up to her room she saw something….. and that’s why the killing happens. 

Before I go any further, I do really really need to go back and re-research again the HH home case. But I think in the idea of gluttony as over consumption past one’s needs, we can see it through his insurance scam. homes would scam people even when he was financially OK even when it was risky for the whole thing to be figured out and come crumbling down. In this way, you can kinda understand it as greed, but I think the idea of over consumption to one’s detriment actually fits better than just the idea of greed and money. If memory serves me correct the reason why we don’t have the murder house is because homes burnt it down as an insurance scam, and that was part how the police officially figured out he was a murderer(again this is from memory. I’m not confident about this part. I could be wrong, there is a high chance that I’m mixing people up, there’s a woman who did something very similar during the same time in I believe it was the East Coast).

But again, I’m going back to these people‘s comments. I really like the idea that it’s the house that is the gluttonous one and homes is just feeding it. A bit of existential live house horror my beloved

Either way like all these comments are saying I’m so excited for this seven deadly sins series that we have! I was so worried that the two of them were going to end the project and I’m so happy they’re keeping it alive! Hopefully they’ll do a tour close enough for me to actually be able to attend!

What’s the deal with pumped up kicks in The Killing Place, I can comprehend somewhat how it relates to the album and plays into the story, but it also feels very out of place. Is it the meaning behind the song? Was it just a cover that they got to do(valid it’s actually one of the songs that got me into AMS)? Like at least how they have the killing place playlist on YouTube it’s the first song you hear when you tap the album, so in a sense it kinda does give context cause the next song right after it is orientation. Which leads me to the interpretation of pumped up kicks was the crime song that led into the prison(the killing place is supposed to represent a prison  correct?) that’s the interpretation I came to with the album, especially from songs like interrogation and Jenny was a friend of Mine?

I’m still learning a lot about the lore so could be very wrong about that! Anything helps!
