Third successful rep and one failed rep at 135 kg/297.6 lbs #deadlift off 4" mats. Sometimes we fail, and that's the point. It makes us better. In my later sets off the floor, I corrected my excessive backward lean and focused on pulling UP more. I have a tendency to pull back, which throws off balance and renders the lift inefficient. I learned a lot from today's work and look forward to murdering next week's deads. The delt pump is so real. Finished a heavy pressing day with @canterpower at #globalstrongmangym then back to my home base #davidbartongym #limelight for some assistance work in the form of delt raises and tri work. It's funny how drastically lifting has changed my perception of pleasing aesthetics. I used to want nothing but to shrink down. Smaller butt, smaller arms, smaller legs. Here's my 115kg / 254lbs #deadlift from yesterday again - but just the end. I drop the weight and immediately just lean on the rack behind me so I don't fall down. This is what we rarely see. This is brutally HARD work. This was a nosebleed set. I was tired AND I was sore before I started lifting, from the previous day's training. I felt like my arms were being ripped off, like my back was just shredding apart. That's what this kind of work takes. But it's also some of the most rewarding work I've ever done. It's not for everyone and that's good - we are meant to do different things. But don't for a second think that just because you're not a lifter or athlete that you can't push yourself this hard or acheive results like I have or achieve whatever your goals are. Two years ago I had never touched a barbell. I did this. You can too. It's tough. It's brutally tough. Last 3 of 85 x 13. Last 5 reps were pause before lockout. So you know why my #bench sucks? Because it's sloppy. Because I don't work on it with the same level of precision I do my squats and deads. That ended today - I focused on taking my time and creating a solid set-up and then making every rep as specific as possible. Perfect practice makes perfect performance. It's not that I hate bench but I could never get fired up for it. Why? Because it was my biggest weakness. No longer! I'm going to get really good at the stuff I shy away from - chest pressing, core work, and endurance/conditioning.
