I think what irks me the most about the takes which compare Yoshiki and 'Hikaru's relationship to e.g. Bear and Nikki from Obsession is that it feels like they're taking Yoshiki's initial self hatred, horror, and disgust as the only justified and 'correct' response to the situation, and the only healthy resolution is for him to reject 'Hikaru' completely. Under that view, it's a foregone conclusion that the relationship they share can NEVER be healthy. To me that's ignorant of the message that tshd is trying to convey.
