whenever someone asks about my chickens I perk up at the chance to spill the lore and talk about their personalities... and then they're like "so how many eggs do you get" and yeah I don't want to talk to them anymore.
it's so beyond frustrating that everyone just sees them as food machines. on the off chance you actually come to love them, imo, the eggs are genuinely the worst part. everyone is out here starting backyard flocks just to save on the grocery bill but they have NO IDEA about the actual high stakes once you're emotionally attached. like the sheer amount of reproductive complications is actually insane... between the egg binding and the literal CANCER it is so stressful. EVERYTHING is out to kill them.
