Me, on Masterchef: *puts plate in front of the judges*
George Calombaris: What have you made for us today?
Me: it’s salt and sugar mixed together
Matt Preston: Incredible! What you’ve managed to do is distill this dish into it’s most basic, elemental flavours by thinking outside the box. It’s deconstructed cooking in a way we’ve never seen before on masterchef and I love it.
George Calombaris: This isn’t a dish that I would serve in one of my restaurants, but what I love is that you’ve managed to put yourself on the plate for us today. You’ve highlighted the two most popular flavours found in western cooking and made them the heroes of the dish. I’ve gotta hand it to you because this is what masterchef is all about and if you keep cooking like this you just might win this whole competition. Great job!
Gary Mehigan: I’m in between the other two judges. Matt comes off as a bit of a high-minded snob whereas George is like some hyperactive kid who somehow became a famous chef and tv personality even though one of his favourite words to use when describing food is ‘yummy’. I’m kind of boring but fairly sensible and the most similar to a normal adult of the three of us which makes the show more relatable to viewers. Thats why they hired me. Usually I sit in the middle.
Me: thanks so much guys this whole experience has been a dream come true. you’re all heroes of mine and to stand here while you say nice things about a dish that I cooked… wow. it’s an absolute privilege.
