“When did you become the sage of our generation?”

Well, I’m Socrates’ brother’s nephew’s great to the thirty-first power grandson’s best mate thrice removed. Also, I think too much. 

“But it works for you, does it not?”

Uhhh... usually. 

“Well, I don’t mean to sound arrogant, but I’m fairly confident I know it all.”

I’m alright at faking it.

“And just… talk?”

Yourself through it, yeah. To someone you’re not going to hold back from. 

I wish I were joking.

“For starters… That I didn’t seem to care how he felt about me until now.”

So go talk to him. Kinda one-sided. Kinda the best you’ve got. 

“Robert King is dead—Dorcas’s friend, the one who loathed me for whatever his reason was. I keep overthinking every decision I’ve made.”

Well, that’ll drive you crazy. 

“But you’re very good at faking it, which is impressive. Besides, I’ve heard that if you can master the vocabulary of something, you can master the subject as a whole. My anatomy professor at the Institute used to tell me that, but that may have been because her course was entirely vocabulary, so who’s to say?”

Depends on how much you know about anatomy.

What’s going on? 

“And, what, sink her? Then who would I come to for advice?”

Yeaaaah. She knows more than anyone I’ve ever met, too.

“I don’t know whether or not I should believe that, as confidently as you just used it.”

“Oh, I have fun. I make it work.”

“Alright. Anything else, Captain Higgs?”

I believe it. 

Hestia giggled in spite of herself, and quickly hid her laughter behind her hand. “And what, pray tell, is a downward dog?”

 I’ve no idea.

“Clapham. And everywhere else but here, apparently.”

So, no where fun. 

“Is it too late in the season to take her out?”

More importantly, where have you been all my life? 

“Well, it’s definitely cold season,” Hestia sniffed as she tossed yet another tissue into the trash and made her way to the sink. “Mine came early this year, but I haven’t been able to kick it just yet.”

Did you know muggles have a nozzle they stick up their nose to drain water through their brain or whatever? It’s a yoga technique. I don’t know what that has to do with turning your body into a downward dog but alright. 

Lori smiled, a tinge of guilt colouring it. “Somewhere we can see the stars without all the lights. Where it feels as though we’re utterly alone.”
