SUCKER [R. Sakamaki]
"It was you. You're the entitled bastard who killed my brother."
BITTEN [CHAPTER FOUR]
SHE had been snuggled upon the large, blue couch in front of the cackling fire. A fluffy, grey blanket was wrapped around her shivering body as she lounged, holding a thick book in her hands. Her curls had been pinned in a scruffy bun and her makeup completely removed, revealing her freckled skin. The fire highlighted her soft features, causing her eyes to slowly grow heavier as she read further and further. The lady had been dressed in a pair of grey joggers and a white vest top with a loose, pink jumper hanging off her shoulders. She let out a yawn and rubbed her eyes, dropping her book against her stomach.
"'The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde', I never took you to be a person who would read the classics." Reiji spoke, alerting the girl who'd fallen half-asleep. She jumped up with a gasp, glancing up at the posh 'vampire'.
"I've always cherished the classics," she admitted, pulling her legs closer to her body as she patted the seat beside her, "they were the only books in the church." Reiji, who'd been listening, slowly sat beside her, watching as she slipped her pink bookmark into the book, marking the page she'd read to. "I've always hated how people bend the pages to mark where they are, it's a monstrous thing to do, wouldn't you agree?"
"Why ruin a book by bending its pages?" Reiji retorted, watching as she slipped the book onto the coffee table in front of them.
"That's what I've been saying for years! Honestly, the girls in the church always bend the pages. It frustrates me to no end!"
Reiji watched as she outstretched her arm, opening her cocoon of blankets, offering him the fabric.
"Aren't you cold?" she questioned, "Snuggle up, we can warn up together." He raised an eyebrow at her gesture.
"Miss Suzuki," he spoke, "I am a vampire, I do not feel hot or cold unless I am very sick which is highly unlikely to happen." Mai rolled her eyes as she wrapped herself back in her comfy nest.
"How long will you and your brothers continue this joke?" she asked, "It's been a month already." She sighed before chewing the inside of her cheek, "Speaking of months, my monthly time is due to start this week, I'll need supplies unless you want me bleeding on your grand furniture." She offered a slight smile, "And you've no need to worry about buying any pain relief medication, I should be alright."
"You are very… open," Reiji commented, "in the future, please voice your personal needs to your personal maid."
"My apologies," Mai bowed her head before letting a small yawn leave her lips.
"Please, cover your mouth when you yawn," Reiji scolded as he watched the tired girl nod and lean against a plump cushion.
"I've completed all my homework," she spoke, "I've revised the material for an hour every day."
"Are you expecting praise from me?" Reiji asked coldly, causing Mai to let out a laugh.
"Of course not, you aren't my father or husband," Mai spoke, "I was just letting you know so that you needn't worry about my grades." She smiled, "Also, I'd like to go out with my friends on Saturday morning, that would be alright with you, wouldn't it?"
"No," Reiji said, causing Mai to sigh.
"Isn't a lady meant to keep a successful social life as well as a successful education?" she asked before smirking, "Besides, if Hiro and Ruby are actually what you say they are, which they're not, then I could make some very important connections for you."
"I have no interest in being connected to a werewolf and a half-blood." he scoffed.
"You said yourself that Ruby was smart and-"
"She is, however, she is a werewolf and she means nothing to me."
"You Sakamakis are such jerks," Mai said, "always so prideful and uptight and snobbish and horrible. You think you can get away with anything because you're convinced you're the superior being. Newsflash Honey, you're a normal human who-"
Reiji had grasped her wrist tightly, his eyes flashed a devilish red, causing Mai to gasp in shock before furrowing her eyebrows and attempting to pull her wrist back.
"What do you think you're doing?" she hissed, "Unhand me at once!" Ignoring her cries, Reiji pulled her off the sofa and began to drag her down the corridors. She let out stressed grunts as she pushed against his wrist, trying to pry his freezing fingers from her. "Reiji Sakamaki! Let. Me. Go!"
A loud smack echoed through the hall.
It was followed by a horrified gasp.
The second Sakamaki merely glared down at her, his grip on her wrist tightened, causing her to let out a strained cry. Her hand was throbbing, she'd imprinted her palm on his sharp cheek. Mai gulped as the boy silently moved closer to her.
"I… I'm so sorry," she breathed out, shaking beneath his wrath. He sneered, harshly pulling her towards the nearest door. He pushed it open and threw her in, causing her to hit against the closest bookcase.
Reiji had rolled up his sleeves and he dragged his slender hand through his slicked-back locks as he removed his glasses. His pink eyes glared down at the human, her heart hammered violently against her chest as she rubbed her wrist with teary eyes. Before she mustered another word, the 'vampire' had crouched to her height and had grabbed her chin.
"You are the sacrificial bride," he hissed, forcing her to stare fearfully into his wise eyes, "you are merely food until you can transform." He snapped, causing Mai's eyes to glaze over with tears, "You will be silent and you will quench my thirst. Whenever I request it." He let go of her chin, standing up to slowly pull his gloves off his hands. He watched as she whimpered, pushing herself against the bookcase and attempting to hide amongst the fallen books. "You will not refuse me," he spoke, smirking as she flinched at his words, "isn't that right?"
"Y-You… you aren't m-making sense," Mai whispered, "Mr. S-Sakamaki, you're s-scaring me."Â
He grinned as he watched her, his sharp canines shining under the candle light of the room, causing Mai to freeze on the spot.
"Good," he purred, holding out his hand, "take my hand Miss Suzuki." Gulping, she glanced from his eyes to his outstretched hand to his sharp fangs and back to his patient eyes. Slowly, the human placed her sweating palm into his cold hand. He let out a low chuckle as he suddenly pulled her hand to his lips, lifting half of her body off the cold floor. She gasped in horror as he lightly kissed her knuckle.
"You smell familiar," he breathed before opening his mouth.
The fangs pierced her wrist.
She let out a blood-curdling scream.
Mai tried to push him away, causing him to deepen his bite. She screamed more, plump tears rolling down her cheeks as she pleaded her God. Her free hand weakly pushed against his steady legs, trying to push him away as she sobbed. His free hand harshly pulled the pins from her hair, causing her hair to fall down her back. She squirmed at the discomfort as he sucked on her flesh harder.
"L-Let me go!" she cried, her voice feeling hoarse and her head pounding, "Please! God, save me." She screamed as he grabbed a fistful of her hair, pulling her head back to watch her tears fall. Her cheeks were a bright red and her skin had turned pale.
Her head span and the darkness embraced her.
The last thing she heard was Shu's voice.
"I'd rather you-"
-_-_-_-_-
Diana sighed as the blonde vampire gently lay Mai in her bed. He made sharp eye contact with the lady who'd been summoned so suddenly from her chambers.
"Nurse her," was all Shu said before leaving the room. Diana didn't mind, this wasn't the first time she'd done this.
Her sharp eyes scanned the pale human's body, searching for the wounds that one of her masters had left. As careful as possible, the maid lifted Mai's throbbing hand, resting it upon a plump pillow. She moved towards one of the drawers which had been left untouched by the human. She opened the top drawer and pulled out a medical kit. Diana was ever so gentle as she lightly disinfected the wound, causing Mai to groan in her sleep.
"Don't worry Miss," she spoke calmly, "you're safe with me."
Diana would be lying if she said she hadn't grown fond of the reserved yet cheerful human. She adored the jolly smiles the teenager gave her and she cherished the happy 'good mornings' that she received every day at 8PM and the sleepy 'goodnight Dianas' that she was gifted at 5AM every day. Diana loved styling Mai's hair every 'morning' and she loved how she tried to have a conversation with her every day.
It was a shame that Diana had given up on befriending the brides… afterall, she hated the pain after they'd died.
It simply wasn't worth it.
Silent, the tall maid slowly placed a pastel-pink plaster which said 'get better soon!' upon the bite marks before wrapping a bandage over it to hide from the other humans at that prestigious school. She easily changed Mai's pajamas and slipped her into a warm nightgown with a pair of shorts underneath.
It only took her an hour before she had placed the bed warmer underneath the duvet at the end of the large bed and bid her mistress sweet dreams.
