I'm doing some fantasy thing, a little for school and a little because I like the idea, but I do not know if anything of what I'm doing is good enough to continue with, or if I'd have to just start from scratch. it's meant to be an ecosystem, set in a place made up on the spot in a world with nothing else in it yet, and I want my final product to look something like it would in an actual book in world. one of the creatures under the cut.
False oasis: [a massive but mostly subterranean creature with a symbiotic relationship with the various plants which grow in its back. Susceptible to fungal spores. ‘sweats’ using a small pool in the middle of its back, which also functions as a way to expel waste alongside heat. Eats through root-like structures to absorb nutrients from the sand, before migrating to the opposite side of their territory.]
Addendum: the roots of plants are within a fatty tissue used by the False oasis to store and absorb water, and are being partially digested by said tissue in exchange for being allowed to root for a form of partial symbiosis.
Addendum: the False oasis’ ability to float is a result of gas sacks on its underside, filled with various biologically and mystically generated gasses which it fills whenever the food in the area is too lacking. [source; I wanted them to fly, so I started looking into blimps, since that’s the light gas was the easiest thing in my eyes for an animal this large without specialized slight limbs to use for locomotion.]
Addendum: in addition to the various gasses, stored water is used to create steam from the hot air at higher altitudes, allowing for more feasible flight. The steam then cools and returns to the fatty tissue to storage. Another addition is small vents on the underside, allowing for sudden expulsion of the gasses in exchange for a burst of speed.
Addendum: the false oasis can float, using it’sthis ability to migrate in mass herds from one end of their territory to the other, with very little control over than wherever the wind happens to be blowing.[I forgot to mention this in the initial creature description.]
