SHI’S ADDICTION TO DEATH . . . is no laughing matter. It’s tragic poetry, in a way. Their name means Death, their entire existence means Death, yet they are not an Extinction Entity. They foolishly believe the Demens’ sudden acquaintanceship with Amelie is a sign from the Gods that this is the answer to their questions, and that they are meant to help Amelie bring about the end. But this doesn’t stop Shi’s ‘research’. They don’t quite repatriate like others do, no. Since their soul is trapped in the Seam, dying is their way of traversing briefly within purgatory. They’re a tad old school, taking bodies as test subjects while slowing down their necrosis, and partaking in a ritualistic type scenario where they join the dead and help bring the soul over into the afterlife.

When Shi dies, no matter the cause, their body goes into an advanced state of necrosis. That 48 hour time period turns into a ten minute time period. They have ten minutes to traverse the Seam before they’re dragged back into the waking world, emerging from whatever Chiral Matter they’ve summoned, and being reborn in a way. After all, they are half BT.

This, unfortunately, takes a heavy toll on their body. They are unable to sleep without slipping into the Seam, or having vivid nightmares. There are times where they sleep and wake up in the other side, but can move and talk as though they are still living. So they don’t sleep much, but they die a lot...

okay so i updated the doc with a bit of info on their powers, how they’re tied to death, and why they’re the homo demens’ corpse / death expert. also there’s a bit of history there now. local jackal friend has a pet ghost dog and can summon other dogs please be nice to them.

shi's helm is so advanced that the mouth can open and close without revealing who is underneath, and the mouth is lined with proper rows of canine teeth.

#it doesn't act as a catalyst for their powers like higgs' mask does #but it's a neat touch
