This was a death wish.Â
Sneaking around with fresh cookies in her bag was one thing. But keeping them from her mothers? Her sisters? Eddie, of all people? Only saving them for Shawn? Death wish. Ultimate death wish.Â
Then again, there she was, praying the plastic bag would mask some of the smell and her work clothes masking the rest.Â
âOkay, I need to make this quick, because if anyone else knows I have these, theyâre going to descend on us like wolves.â is how she greets the man whoâs essentially her second father. âAnd these are for no one else but you.âÂ
The call that had woken him up at one fifty-two in the morning had been answered with: âSomebody better be dead.â Well, they had been. Shawn had completely forgotten that he was supposed to be on call. The morning had been long, and there never seemed to be enough coffee to make writing case notes and reports any easier.Â
After writing and deleting the same sentence about five times, he closed his laptop and ran his hands over his face. He was a few seconds away from standing up and walking around when he saw Cami walking toward him so he settled on leaning back in his seat and stretching his legs a little before sitting back up.
âConsider my interest piqued,â he nodded, slightly raising an eyebrow. âBut after the kind of day Iâve had, the âtheseâ could be like, bombs, or something. So please tell me theyâre not bombs.â
She wanted to mess with him so badly but Shawn seemed...tired. Like there wasn't enough coffee in the world to get him through this day. Briefly her mind wondered just how early he'd been woken up. Was it a reasonable hour or some odd godly hour?
His face told her probably the latter.
"I mean they are bombs. Bombs of delicious." She took note of the 'kind of day I've had' which confirmed...he was definitely woken up at some odd godly hour. She opened her bag, pulling her scrubs to the side to produce the bag of cookies she'd gotten for him and him especially. "Also, I'm offended you think I'd be dumb enough to walk up to you with a bomb in my work bag."
