(My first microfic, yay!)

Today was rough. It seemed as if everything had gone wrong.Ā
For starters, Jamesās alarm hadnāt gone off, so he woke up late. This instantly put him in a bad mood seeing as he had to skip his peaceful morning run. As soon as he was out of bed he was greeted with mindless bickering between Remus and Sirius over Godric-knows-what. His only clean pair of pants was ripped, and his shirt was somehow missing a button. His hair that usually looked messy in the perfect way had gone flat giving his head a weird shape. Okay, a difficult start but breakfast will make it better.Ā
Not only was breakfast a serving of oatmeal (Cāmon! With all the great cooking elves, they were given oatmeal), but almost immediately after he sat down a fourth year spilt juice down his back. James assured the kid that it was okay, even though he seriously considered strangulation.Ā
He was late to his first class because of a shoelace mishap āno need to get into itā and got a whole mouthful in front of the entire class by Professor Slughorn. Something seemed to happen in every class. Even in his favorite, Transfiguration with Minny, they were given a meaningless pop quiz.Ā
So, yeah. Today wasnāt one of Jamesās best. But he still went up to the astronomy tower that night. Once he reached the top of the stairs and spotted those dark curls and searching grey eyes facing towards the stars, his tense shoulders gave way. Just a little. Regulus noticed his presence and turned to him.Ā
āHey, Jamie.ā A slight pink tint covered his pale cheeks. James couldnāt help the smile that cracked through as he sat next to him on the cold bench.
āHello there, Love,ā James decided to not mention his rubbish day. It would only make Reg worry, and he didnāt want that. Still, Reg was observant. And he knew his boyfriend well.Ā
āYou look like shit.ā Regulus said. It wasnāt meant to offend, James could hear the concern laced through his words.Ā
āYeah, wellā¦ā James ran a hand through his hair. āI kind of feel like it too, in all honesty." Regulusās eyebrows crinkled in worry. Oh, donāt do that.
āIām fine, Reg. Really,ā All he wanted to do was carry on like the normal routine and leave this blasted day in the past.Ā
āYou donāt have to be, James,ā Regulus said, staring a little unnervingly into Jamesās eyes. The dam broke, then. James just went through the list. The awful list of this awful day. From his alarm, to the stupid oatmeal, to hitting his head on the desk when falling asleep in History of Magic.Ā
With every complaint, the anger in his chest hollowed out. It left his heart a little numb and throbbing, laying everything in front of him.
He doesnāt know how it happened but he somehow managed to fall against Regulusās chest with his boyfriendās hands running through his still flat hair. He was done ranting, but he stayed silent just where he was. Regulus stayed there, too. Running his hand through his hair well into the night.Ā
When they finally snuck back to their own dorm rooms, James laid in his bed as he remembered the comfort of Regās chest. Today was still terrible, but it had some good parts. Tomorrow will hopefully be better.Ā
