Simon would not necessarily be impressed/ emotinal from looking at stars. In a flashback he's seen stars before, but knows they're ghost light. He would be grateful being able to see them again though.

He WOULD be very emotinal about any plant life. He found a new will to live when he found the little seed. He had a breakdown when the little charm cracked. (Plants represent hope)

His "job" on Eden was to nourish the last tree with the people he killed. Hence his nickname. (Uncertain, flashbacks were very quick. He was also VERY young.)

There's a lot symbolism regarding trees (the hull window crack)

Simon is resourceful and smart! Like smart smart! Let him be smart with Rocky and Grace!

Yes, Simon can be aggressive, but is only in situation where his life is threatened. He's also remorseful. He's apologetic and does want to make up for his wrongs, even if it wasn't his fault.

Simon is not religious, but he did meet an eldritch god. He even renounced the religious teaching on Eden. Hated that he didn't get a choice. (I DO love some religious angst tho)

Don't get me wrong, there's a LOT of religious/ christian symbolism

Speaking of, he had an Eden tattoo on the left side if his neck, but the COI branded(?) over it

COI = Consolidation of Iron (group of a few starship, satellites, and spacecrafts tring to pool resources to survive). Ava was the Captian of the tow ship and SM-13 execution Expedition.

Eden colony = desendents of Martians (Humans who colonized Mars) basicly a death cult. "Father" is presumably the leader.

Injuries include the bends, multiple concussion, isopropyl poisoning, super radiation, acid like burns and mutations from the blood, the effects of precieving and being precieved by an eldritch god. And lizarding his arm.

His left eye glows :3

Grace is not a coward. He thinks himself a coward, but he's not.

Like Simon, Grace did not go down without a fight. He ran, yes, but when he was being sedated he shouted how he would sabotage the mission. Do everything he can to make it fail, just so the wouldn't risk putting him on the exhibition.

He was ready to throw hands with Rocky when they first met.

He is incredibly brave. He did a space walk without training. He trusted Rocky that he wouldn't explode in the space bridge. He CLIMBED ON THE BURNING EXTERIOR OF THE HAIL MARY TO RETRIEVE THE COLLECTION DEVICE.

Grace is not a crybaby. He crys for very real, reasonable reasons! When he was betrayed? When they found a solution to save their stars? When his friend survived? When Rock gave him a way to return to Earth? It would be weird for him NOT to cry! (Edit: person in the tags you're so right)

He might be scared meeting Simon, but he would not be a coward.

Grace was a (7th grade) middle school science teacher. He was a really good one too. But that also mean he probably was cussed out before. He would not be offended/scared being cursed at. Homeboy was also on a military ship for a good minute. "Swearing like a sailor" is a phrase for a good reason.

He still doesn't curse tho. (In the movie)

Grace had several Gs of force pressed on him getting the universe's worst concussion. Honestly wouldn't be surprised is he had a skull fracture.

Movie! Grace does not have a scar from saving Rocky. BUT! Who cares, it's sweet :3

They BOTH have a "This is bigger than me" mentality. They both risked everything to ensure the survival of humanity. They were willing to die.

It's not selfish just wanting to live.

I don't think either of them would have a problem doing anything to survive. (Eating the Taumoeba or Me-burgers)

Rocky risked his life and almost died to save Grace. The atmosphere of the Hail Mary is toxic to him.

Rocky is NOT Grace's pet! That bitch is a sentient, very intelligent person who saved the Stars!

Rocky's only "naive" because of cultural misunderstandings and language barriers.

There were plants on the Hail Mary. Presumably, they could grow plants on Erid (?)

Markiplier is ≈5"10 and Gosling is ≈6"0 (Really doesn't matter, headcanon what you want!)

Adrian works on Grace's bio-dome.

Erid's atmosphere is mainly ammonia and the planet consists of other heavy metals. Which are deadly to humans... hence the bio dome... (now mutated Simon on the other hand 👀)

(Canon to me) Rocky mate bad as hell, statement. Adrian also big as fuck.

Elli is an amalgamation of all the scientists on the SM-8. Notable "head scientist" and "whisper" (who you can hear throughout the movie its so creepy)

Elli is NOT named in the movie. Her modeler, Molly Brown, nickednamed her.

Simon getting overwhelmed with Ava telling him the password was so real (also password1). Rocky eating shit in his little tunnel. Grace, at the same time, so focused that there was life on Tau Ceti that he didn't put two and two together (or notice rocky falling carapace over ass)

All three are extremely resourceful

The Blood Eel is "Elli" not "Ellie"

Simon's fear response is to FREEZE (the blood drop, hearing noises, seeing Elli on screen, seeing God, seeing himself)

Grace's fear response is FIGHT (trash can, being swarmed, being jumpscared by Rocky, finding about the source of the Taumoebaleack) and then FLEE.

Some of these things are conjecture or theory, based on what would make sense irl, or the original media. I wanna clarify for newbies, if that’s okay (I don’t want to be rude or dismissive, I am simply autistic, and I want to interact with other lovers of IL and PHM). This isn’t aimed at OP but at the fandom, as theirs was (:

• Eel!Simon nor Tree!Simon is in the movie. He gets very very badly burned from the boiling blood, and ‘veins’ (probably the ocean) are seen to fuse with him, but it’s cosmic horror and very up to interpretation. A tree 100% explodes tho to kill off my girl Els 😭😭

• We call an eye from a vision Simon has “The Pinhole God” from the line “an ignorant god sees a sliver of our universe through a pinhole and thinks it understands all that is and all that will be”. Again, it’s cosmic horror- we have no real clue (my sister’s convinced it’s a hallucination rather than a vision, I say what’s the difference)

• DRAW HIM KOREAN YOU COWARDS!!

• We don’t know much about Simon or a job on Eden. We know he was probably some form of soldier at some point, from Filament Station, and that ‘The Butcher’ isn’t just something he got from Filament. A Brother in a flashback says that Simon has the “highest body count”, and the line: “when we die, our bodies become the soil” is said by both Simon and the Father. Bodies being used to feed the tree is meta from Molly Brown, the main concept artist ❤️❤️❤️❤️ and not in the movie so personally I wouldn’t call it canon (though I absolutely hc it).

• We also don’t know if he’s religious. We know that he didn’t like being there and resents not getting a choice, but we don’t know if he believes. David’s “You didn’t fully buy Eden’s bullshit; all their dogma about the last tree-” is cut off by Simon with “It’s not about the tree, alright?” It’s not an agreement, and sounds like he’s mad at David calling The Last Tree ‘dogma’, even if he doesn’t mind ‘Eden’s bs’. Then theres “Do you believe in God?” and “Let’s not get into that”. There’s arguments both ways, but I don’t think it’s simple

• The only thing we get is that he was made to “burn (the Eden tattoo) off”, and the only symbol we see for the Consolidation are the letters “C.O.I.”. It DOES look vaguely reminiscent of an anvil which might be fun. Maybe it was just made by a piece of hot shrapnel, maybe the back of a knife (maybe SIMON’S knife 👀👀)- could be anything really

• Everything about Martians is from the game, but we do have: “Simon, don’t be like that. You’ll love it there.” from A Familiar Voice (confirmed outside the movie to be his mum). We don’t know that it’s a death cult, but there’s a TON of more devout religious symbolism, a lot of calling each other “Brother” and their presumed leader “The Father” and then the whole Feeding The Tree stuff.

• ‘Lizarding’ is the best term I have ever heard to describe ripping off your own limb.

Then the added parts for IL:

• We don’t know much about Elli- I think she’s much more than just the SM8’s crew. She’s certainly got a lot of humans that make her up but probably a few other things too. SM8’s Lead Scientist is also called The Speaker! While The Whisper is also credited as SM8’s Research Assistant. A couple fanworks I’ve seen call Simon ‘The Listener’ and that’s where this comes from. It is also very cool and creepy

• And yea, Ellie’s a nickname given by the fandom. I don’t think it really has a proper spelling

• The threats of sabotaging the mission is book stuff, and also the reason for his amnesia there! (Purely hc, but I have a theory that the amnesia drug is the reason he doesn’t die in the coma while Yao and Ilyukhena do)

• Grace’s starvation, and so eating taumoeba, me-burgers, and coma-slurry is also Book Stuff, along with their consequences.

• Idk about plants growing on Erid, w the weather and gravity but it’s sci-fi so 100% find a way

• Adrian’s (English) name is technically from the Rocky movie (she’s his gf in that) because Grace is Horrible at naming people and I Hate Him /aff. But yeah, Adrian The Planet is named after them, in both Eridian and English,

• Adrian working on the biodome I thiiiiink is from the book might be wrong on that

My little additions, if I may, along with game and book stuff that I think is interesting and works in the movies too: starting of with DATES!!

• The Epoch of Interplanetary Colonisation calendar used by most of the humans in Iron Lung is based on Earth years and starts in 0 EIC or 1992 AD: the year that Mars is colonised. The Interstellar Martian Calendar is used on Eden. 0 IMC is also 1992 AD, but is based on Mars’ rotation, so the years are nearly twice as fast: The Quiet Rapture happens in 357 EIC, Filament Station is blown up 5 years later in 362, and Iron Lung starts 16 years later in 378 EIC or ~713 IMC

This is game logic. Based on the actor’s ages, it’s more like 25-ish years between Young Simon in the flashback about the stars going out and the start of IL. David talking about Ava from before the Rapture like they knew each other well makes this fun- it would mean Ava has known David for somewhere between 21 to 25 years, and probably came into a position of power EARLY. Not impossible (we don’t know her age) and VERY chewable, angst-wise

• Book!Eva bombs Antarctica several times to speed up global warming. She also turns the entire Sahara into a solar farm which decimates All of The Weather to grow astrophage faster.

• Grace is canonically disabled on Erid, both from the heavier gravity and malnutrition. I WANT TO SEE MORE DISABLED GRACES

• From the book: I need to start hearing more people talk about thrums. They’re SUCH a cool concept. They’re how Eridians have group discussions and I could not do it justice but it sounds like a choir where all the members are improvising and SOUNDS SO COOL (in my brain)

• While most the fandom uses they/them for Adrian, but it really doesn’t matter. Eridians are not dimorphic.
