Today, NDP Leader, Jagmeet Singh says he is committed to supporting a Green New Deal in Canada; such as that proposed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the USA. Wants to completely end subsidies to fossil fuel companies.

One of Jason Kenney’s former United Conservative Party MLAs is alleging to the  Royal Canadian Mounted Police that Kenney’s leadership team cast “thousands” of fake votes using party memberships registered with “fraudulent e-mail addresses” that were hosted on a server located “somewhere offshore.”

In a letter newly obtained by PressProgress, independent MLA Prab Gill tells the commanding officer of the RCMP in Alberta that he believes “election laws may have been broken and that the criminal code was broken by members of the Jason Kenney UCP leadership campaign.”

“I am prepared to cooperate in the investigation,” the sitting MLA states in his letter detailing what he describes as an elaborate “identity fraud” scheme.

“Possibly thousands of individuals were impacted.”

Jason Kenney’s idea to reduce the minimum wage for alcohol servers and youth would be a step backwards and hurt vulnerable Albertans, say some workers who entered the workforce at a young age.

In a speech to restaurant owners in Edmonton Tuesday, the UCP leader mused that reducing the minimum wage for bar staff and servers under 18 might help struggling restaurants.

Kenney suggested a 15-year-old would not have the same income requirements as a 25-year-old single mom.

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley says a United Conservative Party proposal to freeze spending would require reckless cuts to health care and education because the province’s population continues to grow.

In a lunchtime speech to the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce Thursday, the NDP premier warned that if UCP leader Jason Kenney wins the impending election, public services would be slashed like they were under the Ralph Klein regime of the 1990s.

“When people get less - at their hospitals and care homes, in their classrooms - it’s a cut, plain and simple,” Notley said.

“People get hurt, workers get fired and families get left in the lurch.”

The head of a new coalition of 28 agriculture producer groups in Alberta says it would be a mistake for UCP Leader Jason Kenney to repeal Alberta’s farm safety law if he wins power next year.

Albert Kamps, chairman of AgCoalition, said the industry has worked closely with government over the past two years to craft rules that work for farms and ranches.

“To roll this all back would need a lot of consultation, because we’d be throwing out a lot of good with the bad,” Kamps told reporters Wednesday.

“At this point, I think we’ve landed in a good place and I’d be against blindly rolling it back.”

Changes to the Alberta Labour Relations Code by the Alberta government in 2017 have resulted in the highest number of single-year, new union certifications in Alberta in a decade.

Statistics maintained by the Alberta Labour Relations Board (ALRB) show for the fiscal year 2017-2018, 104 unions were certified in workplaces that had previously not been organized.

That compares to a decade low of 40 new certifications the previous year.
