CUPID'S CHOKHOLD

1) Does your character have an alias (super or otherwise)? If they do, how did it come about? Did they chose it themselves or did another? If they do not, what would they chose if they needed one?

Yes - Lust. When he first discovered his power he went through an angry kinda phase and I suppose naming himself ‘Lust’ was more of a bitter joke than anything. He developed PTSD after he was sexually assaulted, which lead to his hyper-sexuality. After a long time though, Caleb sort of snapped and, after deciding to isolate himself, he simply let the name stick.

2) Does your character have a power? Do they wish they did? Do they wish their ability was something else?

Caleb has sexual inducement. He wishes he had no power at all. He hates his own power but any other power would hold too much responsibility.

3) How did your character fall into the side that they are on? Have they even chosen a side? If not, why not?

Again, Caleb was bitter when he committed his first crime. His first victim was the officer that made light of Caleb’s assault and failed to bring him justice, and he was humiliated and furious. Police officers have been his primary target ever since.

4) How does your character take the supers? Are they a sure sign of God? The next stage of evolution?

Because Caleb knows about Rydel’s power and alter-ego, he really doesn’t see the supers as much different to anybody else, both because having powers just feels normal to him now, and because he’s seen Rydel in her everyday life. If anything, he’s a little jealous, feeling as if he pulled the shortest straw.

5) Does your character believe Supers to be ‘above’ those without powers? Either due to their abilities or another reason?

No, Caleb knows first-hand that having powers isn’t the was they make it out to be in the comic books. He sees those without powers as the lucky ones.

6) What does your character think about the lengths that the Supers are willing to go to get what they want? Do they believe the destruction seen throughout the city during battles to be justified or the destroying of innocent lives?

Caleb sees battles as a huge waste of time and energy. Seeing his own crimes as an act of greater good (despite being seen as a villain), Caleb sees any other rebellions as selfish. He believes that, because he does not need to use his gift to accomplish what he wishes, neither does anybody else.

I’m just now realizing that most things that Caleb does or thinks are fueled by bitterness. Caleb mostly doesn’t think it right for the others to use their powers because he doesn’t feel comfortable using his own and he’s jealous of this.

7) Does your character know of the seedy underbelly of New York (example - The Vendettas’ work)? Have they ever been involved in it or are they blissfully ignorant?

He does, but he chooses to live in blissful ignorance, too cowardly to help fight against a cause that he is so strongly against. Although he does this on a nightly basis, he feels that by fighting the Vandettas, he would be out of his depth. He is too comfortable with doing his ‘duties’ from afar.

8) Has your character ever come into contact with a Super? Did they aid or hinder your character?

He discovered Rydel’s power when he entered her apartment uninvited and she instinctual activated her power. This only made him feel relieved, having finally found the chance to share his own power with somebody he can trust. Not only this, but he was excited for somebody to finally know that ‘Lust’ wasn’t as bad as he seemed.

9) How does your character react to the fictional Supers they see in the media (such as Superman or the X-Men)? Do they hold the Supers they see in their lives up to standards derived from this media? Do they believe such media is helpful or not to the public’s perspective of Supers?

He’s always been a fan of fictional heroes and, even after discovering his own power, Caleb likes to lose himself in the comics. He particularly enjoys to read the X-Men comics, following the story line of finding a ‘cure’. These stories simply keep his hopes high.

However he is yet to find genuine selflessness in the supers of the real world, so they do not live up to those in fictional stories.

10) How does your character react to the ‘Heroes’ in New York? Are they truly there for the people or working for their own agenda? Does your character believe them to be helpful or just vicious vigilantes who should allow the Police to do their job?

After his experience with the police, Caleb believes that anybody setting out to help actually has their own personal reasons; caring more about their own gain rather than the people. This includes the heroes.

11) What are your character’s views on the ‘Villains’? Are they just the lowest of one group or are they a show of what all Supers are destined to become?

He finds himself feeling embarrassed by the villains, not considering himself to be one despite the rest of the city labeling him as such. However, he also finds himself wandering if they have reasons similar to his own, and are simply seeking revenge like himself.

12) How does your character feel about the fact that people have been able to require powers through science and procedures rather than from birth? Is this something that interests them? Do they think that science shouldn’t be messing with such things or that it is just the next obvious step?
