#Repost @culturestrike with @repostapp ・・・ Even during time of mourning, we are expected to quickly react and fight, so let this be a reminder that it is ok to just breath, to pause, to be still. Even during time of mourning we are confronted by problematic questions from media outlets, we get an overflow of triggering images and videos of the shooting. So let this be reminder that it is ok to just un-plug, it’s ok to not log into social media, to tune out the noise of problematic commentary, even just for one minute or how ever long your body needs.

#Queer #Trans & #GenderNonConforming people of color are never fully afforded time to mourn and just process. Even in our movement social justice spaces, we are expected to be productive during these tragic moments. Yo, this just happened a couple days ago. Can we first mourn? Can I just have a moment to cry? Can I just sit here with myself, with community, with my partner, with chosen family and just breathe? Our mourning is necessary, our mourning is political.

We paid an awful lot of dues so that the younger people of today can feel the freedom to walk along holding hands. It [LGBT Liberation] did not start with Stonewall. 

We had a very viable black lesbian and gay community not only in Harlem, but in Brooklyn, in the Bronx,…

…And what happened was that the bars downtown weren’t making money and someone discovered that there was a lot of money being spent in Harlem and other black communities. and they systematically either burned them down, closed them down, or they started having a lot of problems with police for different violations and other things like that.

And as as bar after bar and club after club closed down, clubs in The Village that years prior did not welcome the citizens of these neighborhoods in… South Bronx and Harlem, they’d let you in and took your money but they still did not treat you any better.
