Help a Trans Woman secure HRT and an Education
Hello all. I am unfortunately coming to you, hat in hand, rattling my can, on behalf of a trans girl, Tessa, that I love dearly like a sister. She's been very housing insecure for a while, but fortunately, she's found stable housing. However, since she hasn't been able to work or continue her education, she has been having a hard time getting healthcare in the USA for HRT due to the cost or any amount of income to pay to finish getting her GED. Normally, I'd front the cost a bit, but unfortunately, the university does not pay me in the summer.

yknow, this wouldn't be an issue if estrogen and feminizing hormones were readily available and accessible. not only would it stop trans kids from killing themselves, it would allow dumbasses like you to go back to being cis.

The "guy who died from being forcefemmed" thing is probably a reference to David Reimer, a (cis) boy who was "raised as a girl" following a botched circumcision.
He eventually rejected the assignment as female, showing dysphoria much like a trans man. Even after reverting to his desired gender, he continued to be (understandably) troubled, and eventually completed suicide at age 38.
His story established that gender is (at least for some of us) internal, inherent, and unchangeable. Not purely learned.
This shows why trans people like myself NEED transition to live. Living as a man was never really an option for me, just as living as a woman wasn't for Reimer.
Unfortunately, transphobes somehow take exactly the wrong lesson from such episodes.
In case it isnât clear- the circumcision was so botched that John Money, who was a psychologist working in the field of coercive assignment of sex at birth in the context of intersex kids and believed that gender is inherently neutral until socially enforced, was able to convince the parents it would be easier for David to grow up as a visually ânormalâ girl than a boy with a disability. He was in part motivated by the fact that David had an identical twin, Brian, who could serve as a control in his experiment. He made the brothers rehearse sexual performances from a young age in order to reinforce Davidâs âgirlhoodâ. David would find out the truth and make use of the same resources available to trans men - T, double mastectomy, and phalloplasty - to transition away from the neovagina and E that were forced upon him as a kid. Both brothers would eventually commit suicide due to the psychological and sexual trauma of their childhood, and their story being publicized helped intersex advocacy groups fight back against coercive surgery on the next generation of our brethren.
All this to say that gender autonomy is something we all deserve. We have the medical knowledge to undo nearly all the physical changes of transition, resources that intersex adults have utilized the same way David did. If someone transitioned and regrets it, they can transition again. Making surgery & hormones less accessible makes people feel they must go all or nothing, forces them to rush in and then regret that they didnât control the pace of their progress. Cutting us off entirely to lock people in gender closets will cause far more suicides than the small percentage of people who regret transitioning entirely.
As summer is approaching, Iâd like to remind everyone that you are not entitled to ask someone to cover up their scars, self inflicted or not. I donât care if theyâre big, I donât care if theyâre noticeable, or purple, or all over their body, or what. You canât police peopleâs bodies.
This also goes for my friends with feeding tubes, ostomy bags, central lines and urinary catheters. People are allowed exist in bodies that stray from the expected norm.
