It really is so disturbing to see a Percy Jackson without the inner monologue.
In the books, even if he was absolutely slaying, eating, serving BAMF in the middle of the fight, the book would be saying like "gosh I'm so awkward and clumsy haha who let me hold a sword lol I'm such a silly goose"
In the show we see him in pain and literally doing the most insane stuff with the most stoic facial expressions. Killing, stabbing, getting stabbed. He isn't some quirky funny kid on the outside, even if canonically on the inside he sees the world like a real kid. The show Percy seems different for these reasons but that's not OOC, that's just what Percy looks like to EVERYONE ELSE.

Hazel: I just.. Can’t bear the burden of my past alone.
Frank:
no we don't talk about Annabeth's dagger enough.
We start with Luke getting the blade from Halcyon Green, a son of Apollo.
"That blade was a gift from the girl I saved." She promised me it would always protect its owner. Hal took a shaky breath. He must’ve known how bitterly ironic that promise sounded, given his curse. He wrote, A dagger doesn’t have the power or reach of a sword, but it can be an excellent weapon in the right hands. I’ll feel better knowing you have it.
THE IMMENSE FORESHADOWING HERE IS KILLING ME. While Percy is out there swinging Riptide , Annabeth becomes a very dangerous person in the room with a small blade. It emphasizes that she doesn't need "power or reach", she needs precision.
Then Luke giving it to Annabeth and promising himself that he's never going to let anything hurt her.
“What’s your name, kiddo?” “Annabeth.” I couldn’t help smiling. I’d never heard that name before, but it was pretty, and it seemed to fit her. “Nice name,” I told her. “I tell you what, Annabeth. You’re pretty fierce. We could use a fighter like you.” Her eyes widened. “You could?” “Oh, yeah,” I said earnestly. Then a sudden thought struck me. I reached for Hal’s dagger and pulled it from my belt. It will protect its owner, Hal had said. He had gotten it from the little girl he had saved. Now fate had given us the chance to save another little girl. “How’d you like a real monster-slaying weapon?” I asked her. “This is Celestial bronze. Works a lot better than a hammer.” Annabeth took the dagger and studied it in awe.
“Knives are only for the bravest and quickest fighters,” I told her. My voice caught as I remembered Hal Green, and how he’d died to save us. “They don’t have the reach or power of a sword, but they’re easy to conceal and they can find weak spots in your enemy’s armor. It takes a clever warrior to use a knife. I have a feeling you’re pretty clever." Annabeth beamed at me, and for that instant, all my problems seemed to melt. I felt as if I’d done one thing right. I swore to myself I would never let this girl come to harm. “I am clever!” she said.
Then when they reach camp, Luke does become camp's best swordsman. Just imagine Luke teaching Annabeth how to fight with her dagger, the same way he did for Percy. After that throughout the entire series, Annabeth and Luke do get into fights but it's never with their blades, its always been more internal and with words. Luke almost never draws his sword against Annabeth. Even when he is at his most villainous, he orders his minions to "capture her alive" or "bring her to me." Annabeth's dagger is a defensive tool. She uses it to block his path or protect Percy but her true weapon against Luke was always her voice and their shared history.
And then finally! The Last Olympian epic fight.
Kronos whirled to face her and slashed with Backbiter, but somehow Annabeth caught the strike on her dagger hilt. It was a move only the quickest and most skilled knife fighter could've managed. Don't ask me where she found the strength, but she stepped in closer for leverage, their blades crossed, and for a moment she stood face-to-face with the Titan lord, holding him at a standstill. "Luke," she said, gritting her teeth, "I understand now. You have to trust me." Kronos roared in outrage. "Luke Castellan is dead! His body will burn away as I assume my true form!" I tried to move, but my body was frozen again. How could Annabeth, battered and half dead with exhaustion, have the strength to fight a Titan like Kronos? Kronos pushed against her, trying to dislodge his blade, but she held him in check, her arms trembling as he forced his sword down toward her neck.
Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. She croaked, "Family, Luke. You promised." He stared at the knife in Annabeth's hand, the blood on her face. "Promise." Then he gasped like he couldn't get air. "Annabeth . . ." But it wasn't the Titan's voice. It was Luke's. He stumbled forward like he couldn't control his own body. "You're bleeding. . . ." "My knife." Annabeth tried to raise her dagger, but it clattered out of her hand. Her arm was bent at a funny angle. She looked at me, imploring, "Percy, please . . ."
"The knife, Percy," Annabeth muttered. Her breath was shallow. "Hero . . . cursed blade . . ."
ANNABETH ASKING PERCY TO GIVE THE DAGGER TO LUKE PARALLELS LUKE GIVING THE DAGGER TO ANNABETH IN THE BEGINNING. The dagger is cursed not by magic but by Luke's broken promise. He used the dagger (the same one he gave her out of brotherly love) to stab his own Achilles heel. By handing the dagger back to Luke, Annabeth is returning the "gift" from seven years ago. She is betting the fate of the world on the hope that Luke’s love for her is stronger than Kronos’s hold on him.
The dagger started as a symbol of a promise to protect, became a symbol of betrayal and ended as the tool of redemption.
But now I want to talk about how it gets lost in the depths of Tartarus in MoA during her fall...
It wasn't taken by an enemy; it was knocked into the abyss. After years of clinging to it through Luke’s betrayal, his death and her own grief, she watched it fall into the darkness. I always chose to interpret the loss of the dagger marking the end of an era. It was the final physical tie she had to the boy who found her in the alley. It protected her until she no longer needed a symbol to feel safe. It was a gift of protection that finally let her go.
I find it almost poetic that she replaces it with a Drakon-bone sword later, a weapon she earned through her own merit rather than one given to her for protection.
(just reread The Demigod Diaries and felt a lot of emotions rn)

I don’t see enough discourse around Frank and Hazel. Talk about YEARNING for each other!!!
Frank knows well and good Hazel can handle herself, but if he could, he would never let her lift a finger again.
Hazel has always been captivated by Frank (EVEN before and after his Blessing of Ares). She has also always felt safe with Frank and never doubted his intelligence or skills being a demigod.
They were each smitten thinking “no way they could like someone like me”. WHEN THEY TRUST EACH OTHER WITH THEIR LIVES MORE THAN ANYONE EVER!
Get yourself a relationship like Frank and Hazel’s.

The way Charlie genuinely had me a bit scared during this scene. Give him every award.
Also this is the first time we've seen Luke genuinely lose it. Like 20 hits in a minute is absolute rage. I feel like he's been trying his best to hold control all season long and he's now at the point where he just can't.
And it all comes back to Annabeth always. Her "betrayal" in favor of Percy is absolutely what drove him to finally snap. Just like her being kidnapped drove Percy to snap. She is the center of both of their universes.
this scene is so eye opening to me. because it show just how far they're willing to go. percy thinking disarming luke will be the end. luke punching percy because it's only the beginning.
#They have been married for 50 years
“I'm calm," Rachel insisted. "Every time I'm around you, some monsters attack us. What's to be nervous about?" "Look," I said. "I'm sorry about the band room. I hope they didn't kick you our or anything." "Nah. They asked me a lot of questions about you. I played dumb." "Was it hard?" Annabeth asked.”
― Rick Riordan, The Battle of the Labyrinth
Look. I've seen a *lot* of posts about Annabeth just being a little b***h towards Rachel. and while, yeah... she was: We also need to remember that Annabeth was 14 in this book, and 13 in The Titans Curse. In her eyes, this was someone else that was trying to take a person she loved (even if she doesn't know it yet) away from her. Her mom couldn't stay because she was a goddess. Her dad left her for her step-mom. She bonded with Thalia and Luke, Thalia got turned into a tree. Luke betrayed her, has tried to kill her and her friends. Thalia came back, then joined the hunters of Artemis.
She was just afraid the same thing would happen to her and Percy because of Rachel.
*Because she's always been someone's second option.*
sooo excited to see these three suffer without their gfs this year 🫡❣️

THAT’S MY PERCABETH
Athena: You’re not good enough for my daughter. Percy: You’re not good enough for your daughter. Athena: Excuse me? Percy: You heard me.
