About a week ago I was in Germany for a quick 5 day trip. In the fall I applied to get money to travel there in order to do research for my senior project. I visited the Archive of the Grimm-Gesellschaft, which is a circle of scholars who collect and research documents regarding the Grimm brothers and their work. Because my trip was so quick I planned out everything before I went and I had organized to meet with them the day I got there. They got out a bunch of books on my topic and I got to look through them all, it was so cool to go there and talk to experts and get new and helpful materials.
But I also got to see a new city, and one of my best friends lives not far away so she came to visit too! We went to see a really old castle on a hill called Schloss Wilhelmshöhe. I also got to see the Neue Gallerie which had an installment by Joseph Beuys. The last picture is a sculpture that frames the castle, which is supposed to imply that Kassel is a city that cannot fit into a frame. It isn't the most amazing city I have every been too, but I would agree that it had some special things to offer!
It was a lovely little visit in a really awesome country, and I am excited to go back!Â

At the Gutenberg Museum…
Typing, printing, writing, engraving, stamping. Everything you can think of that has to do with putting words on paper is in this museum. I love words, so I was pretty stoked to be there. We saw REAL Manuscripts from the Middle Ages and before. I think one of the most magical things on the planet is seeing historical documents, because they can connect you with something so far back in time.
I volunteered to help print a page of the Bible that the original printing press would have printed, and I got to keep it!

Metamorphosis of a Berlin Bunker
I was in a bunker. That actually is no ordinary bunker...
Pictures from sailing to the Island of Romsø from Kerteminde.
It was an absolutely magical place once we got there, as you can see in my last post.Â
That is my last post about my time in Denmark! I am still in Berlin, but I will be leaving to go home soon. It has been such an amazing adventure to be able to travel here and to live here. Seeing so much of Europe has really been a blessing, and I am so excited to come back and see more!

The island of enchanted creatures...
I know I have seen many deer before in my life, but there is just something about how freely they roamed on the island of Romsø that made them magical to me. It lifted my spirits and I didn't even know that they needed to be lifted. I could see it and feel it, that they were purely happy creatures, and I found that beautiful.
We took a walk around the whole island pretty quickly, because it is not that big at all. Then we picknicked on a hill overlooking the water. We had strawberries, cheese and bread, a pretty nice snack. They told me that the island is owned by a baron, who tells people what they are allowed to do on the island. It seemed like a very protected place, with no litter and no sense of hostility. I think it might have felt like such a peaceful place, because people are not allowed to live there. It was not destroyed in any way. There were just the families of deer grazing on the hills and galloping through the woods. What a life!Â
Warm Regards from Berlin,
