TBH concept mercy is so, so better than generic white blondie angel wannabe, plus he reminds me of the medic in Atlantis, and the white hair is just 👀👌🏼 But just cuz he black and a man doesn't simply overrides the mess Gency is. It just doesn't turns good just because it's a gay ship. That's why there's so many people calling these um "gay enthusiasts" fujoshis. Because fujos have this disgusting tendency of believing any ship is good if its gay, no matter if it's abusive and suddenly Gency became a good thing? And, concept!Gency shippers made a big fucking error. See, Mercy met Genji because Hanzo struck him down and she saved him, he joins Overwatch and works undercover with Blackwatch and it goes on. But concept Genji was both Hanzo AND Genji, so concept!Mercy couldn't even meet Genji the way current Mercy did. So pretty much everyone who finally acknowledged Gency because of the implication it could've been a gay relationship is forgetting that there is no confirmation that concept!Mercy and Genji were meant to be a couple in the first place, not the same way "canon" Gency is. For all we know the writers decided to make them a couple after the final designs, aka, when Mercy was a female and Genji was just Genji, not Hanzo+Genji.
