i feel like there's 2 main reasons that dustin still attempts to lie to suzie about everything that goes on in hawkins: 1) the less she knows, the better. she doesn't live there, so she's safe and it isn't on a need-to-know. and 2) once he shares it with her, he knows it punches holes in certain things that she believes in and doesn't want to be the one to do that. also a bonus reason, 3) the duffers are shitty to dustin and gave him a long distance gf so they didn't really have to spend time developing the storyline. BUT ANYWAY, suzie is clearly not stupid and they've needed her help for things that come with shitty lies that make no sense, so she KNOWS something is up. she doesn't know what, but she becomes skeptical and she's afraid to bring it up to dustin because she doesn't want him to think she doesn't trust him. specifically in modern verse though with access to the internet and the news being way more accessible, she knows way more than she says for a long time until she just finally is like: Tell Me What Is Going On Right Now Dustin

and after what happened to max when they got her involved.... he's DEFINITELY scared to finally tell suzie

ALSO suzie isn't very strictly mormon either, the more she grows up. we see it in the fact that she would even date dustin in the first place, especially when she finds out his religious status. her older sister is obviously completely rebellious of it, her younger brother is also totally bouncing off the walls. i feel like suzie thinks she has a sort of Obligation to be the poster child they expect her to be because her other siblings already test their patience, which comes with a lot of pressure. but suzie's attitude and vibe is so similar to dustin, where she's sarcastic witty and a little rude SGDJFKFK

imagine dustin trying to play basketball with lucas and help him practice 

mike and dustin probably grew closer during their freshman year and we barely got to see it bc mike left like right after the campaign

okay SO like rough draft thoughts... claudia had 2 older brothers and benny is one of them... dustin never really spent any time with him bc they lived kinda far, but his mom casually kept in touch and benny sent dustin cards on special occasions every year and there was the occasional phone calls and even more rare visits (maybe twice, not counting when benny came to the hospital when dustin was born), so they weren't super close until dustin was 10.
