Byte Frugal - Android apps for the low-in-space smartphone

Talking Clock is what the title implies - a talking clock.  It is extremely small in size - at about 100KB (or 0.1MB) even after installation.  It lets your phone read out the current time, and you can even personalize the message when it reads out the time.  There is an option for you to have it read out the time automatically at set intervals of minutes, and it allows you to do so between two given times.  It gives you the option of whether or not you want it to run in the background.

I have found this app quite useful for getting up, as it will normally constantly announce the time at the interval you choose.  However, I have found the automatic reading to be a little buggy and might suddenly stop announcing the time or do so irregularly - so don’t put so much faith in it thinking it’s some substitute for a full alarm.  

To-Do List Widget is a widget app that allows you to create a to-do lists and show it on your home screen.  You can pick how much space a given list takes up on your homescreen; obviously the more space, the more of your items on your list can be displayed at once.  You add items to the list and you can check them off when you are done.  An incredibly small widget taking up less than 300KB after installation.  

Multiling O Keyboard + emoji is a super lightweight keyboard for Android phones.  Despite its small size of about 500KB (i.e. half a megabyte) and about 1.2MB when installed, it has various capabilities such as swipe features.  It may be a bit confusing to use at first, but it is highly customizable.  It does not come with a dictionary, but that can be downloaded as a separate add-on along with various other optional plugins.  The English dictionary download is also less than 1MB.  

Docs To Go is an all-in-one editor for Microsoft Office files, and also contains a PDF reader.  Whereas other such apps may take 50+MB or bigger, this app is only about a 5MB download and is less than 20MB once installed.  It can read, create and edit .doc(x) Word files, .xls(x) Excel spreadsheets, .ppt(x) Powerpoint presentations for Microsoft Office 97-2016.  It can also read PDF files.  Expect ads for the free version, though.  There is a premium version for about $17.  

Granted, 20MB may not be considered small for a standalone app, but given that this is effectively multiple things rolled into one app, it still belongs here.

When it comes to computers (including our smartphones), storage space is often like money.  While not an issue to those who have enough, many of us have cheap Android phones with not a lot of internal storage.  In addition, app sizes have ballooned and many mandatory apps are filled with bloatware.  Consequently, we often find our phones running out of space too often and spend a lot of time managing our space.

This Tumblr is for people who want to do more with their smartphone but are very short on space.  I intend to post various apps that are small in size but useful.
