the fact that the duffer brothers dragged out will's feelings for mike to the final season of their show that ended with, in my opinion, an unoriginal coming out scene instead of resolving it completely in s4 is bad writing. the fact that they used will's pain and unrequited love to help build up a mediocre straight relationship is bad writing. the fact that their other queer characters, robin and vickie, got together off screen and we barely got to know vickie as a character and see their relationship develop while most of the straight characters got to have their romances developed throughout the entirety of the show onscreen is bad writing. the fact that they'll most likely give will some random epilogue boyfriend we won't have any time to grow to care about, is bad writing.
if the only character arcs you can think to give your queer characters involve self-acceptance, coming out scenes, unrequited love with a straight best friend, and off screen romances but you cannot give them more nuance than that, it is bad writing. and if you cannot give your queer characters the same amount of love, care, and attention as your straight ones, quite frankly, you should not be writing them in the first place.
SO NOW THEY POST MILEVEN PROMO, RIGHT? AFTER NOTHING FOR MONTHS AND EVEN YEARS.
THE QUEERBAITING WAS REAL.
I need those annoyed ass paparazzi and interviewers to absolutely humiliate the Duffer Brothers right now the fact they haven’t said anything is really bothering me
now they are just rubbing it in our face, fuck you

Ok, so you're telling me...
Jopper got Enzo's date but Rovickie didn't?
One of the 3 (not counting Mike) gay characters literally wasn't in the epilogue
Will's "epilogue boyfriend" was just HINTED AT
THE painting didn't get adressed???
Jane and Mike kissed?? (We literally didn't even know if they were still a couple atp)
Jane said ily to Mike and he still couldn't say it back!?
Will and Mike didn't even TALK about Will "liking" him, he just said "I'm sorry we can be best friends now 😛🫰"
The Suffers did that on purpose: "Friends? No thanks.......(making us get hope again)...... Best friends!"
All the things the cast said in those interviews were lies. ("The painting will pay off", " You'll be hap-satified"...)
Literally no one really dies except for Kali (a "new character")
They played heroes at the end wtf
Kali tried to KILL Hopper...?
They didn't even make clear if Sam Owens died (maybe they did, idk maybe I'm stupid)
They queerbaited us...
Duffers, Shawn, and everyone who made the show, I'm so disappointed, you lost a lot of fans because of this fucking queerbait and the last season in general. You didn't even give Will satisfying ending, THE painting lie hasnt been resolved, and you left a lot of plot holes. You failed Mike. He could've been such a great character, but now... He's just an asshole tbh (I mean the canon Mike version, not the Ao3 version, I love Mike Queerler).
mike the brave wasn’t brave enough, in the end. he’ll keep this secret until he has no more life to give, and the life he lives will be itching with regrets he said he didn’t want to carry. i’m so sorry mike wheeler. you deserved better.
I guess it was just a crush
here's your daily fuckass reminder that mike was the first one to show signs of being in love with will, NOT the opposite. mike is the one who was so passionate about finding will again, who took care of him like that in season 2, who always made it clear he was his favorite person, who said meeting him was the best things he's ever done...
and you're giving up now?? because you think he doesn't love will?? he's the reason byler started. bro is the byler founder. the fate of the ship now only depends on what he'll do. and personally i have all my trust in him
Hi, Byler fans. I don't usually post here but I just finished the Stranger Things finale and wanted to get something out that I feel needs to be said. My grandmother had an older brother named, coincidentally enough, William.
He was born in 1919 and he was gay.
Everyone in the family knew. It became an unspoken secret. And here’s the part people don't really say about the past: he wasn’t cast out. He wasn’t beaten. He wasn’t disowned.
They loved him. They were a close‑knit family.
What they did instead was play a game called pretend.
They never said it out loud. When the family gathered for holidays, his siblings brought their spouses. Uncle Bill came alone. His partner wasn't invited, of course. They didn't even want to know he had a partner. When children asked why Uncle Bill wasn’t married, the adults smiled and said, “He’s just a bachelor.”
That answer was given to my mother in the 1950s. To my sister in the 1970s. And to me in the 1980s.
People like the Duffer brothers seem imagine that the past was only made up of violent, cartoonish homophobes. And sadly, there were a lot of those, just like there still are today. But some families were “fine” with gay people—as long as they were quiet. As long as they didn’t ask for the same things. As long as they didn’t bring love to the table.
Uncle Bill was accepted on one condition: He sat alone.
So when a modern show frames a gay boy’s arc as “learning to accept himself without expecting love in return,” that’s not radical. That’s not brave. That’s not new.
That story is over a hundred years old.
It’s the story of being tolerated, not chosen. Of being loved in theory, but denied in practice. Of being welcome—so long as you don’t make anyone uncomfortable.
My Uncle William lived that life in 1919. We don’t need to keep calling it progress.
I know a lot of people on here are young. So take the pain you're feeling now and remember it as you get older. Write your own stories that embrace what this show denied. Write the story you wanted Byler to be. Be the generation that stops telling this tired old story.
Do it for my Uncle Bill. Do it Noah. Do it to give the middle finger to the Duffer brothers. Most of all, do it for yourself.

now let’s talk a bit more about how noah was treated by the duffers. noah has mentioned how he struggled when journalists would ask him about will being gay because they would then also ask personal questions about his sexuality which was very difficult for him since he wasn’t ready in his own personal journey to deal with that. let me remind everybody that noah was a child for most of the time the show was filming.
noah explains that the duffers never sat him down to explain that will was gay which makes it seem like they never put that much thought about developing that aspect of his character. later on, it looks like they all had this silent agreement and understanding since noah noticed like all of us that will was meant to be gay. so here we can see how the duffers just threw him to the wolves because they either wanted to have will’s sexuality as a plot twist which is a very insensitive thing to do or that they were cowards that didn’t want to admit until the last minute that they had a queer main character on such mainstream show so they let a child deal with explaining it. it would’ve been so easy to sit with him and guide him how to answer or even make some sort of statement saying “yes will is written to be gay but he’s still growing up, keep watching to see how his story develops” which wouldn’t expose anything plot wise but would protect their young child actor from invasive questions. now that it’s out in the open, they elevate themselves as proud allies that wanted to make it right for will and noah. now they are finally saying that will was always meant to be gay and it was written in the show’s bible.
i think it was super insensitive to deal this way with will’s sexuality while working with a child actor. at the end of the day, noah being gay just like will is a coincidence. throwing some random child actor to deal with all this shows lack of care and understanding of queer storylines.
now years later, noah came out and had more definitive thoughts about will’s queer arc based on his own experiences being a young gay man. they had him waiting and waiting for it, and when asked if he had any input, he said he didn’t want to overstep which speaks for itself. he also was the one who suggested an scene between will and mike getting some closure because the duffers didn’t think about that at all. noah is the only one who thought that fans who invested their time and energy into that relationship deserved closure as well which also tells me what the duffers think about their fans.
i can’t help but think what would’ve been of will if noah wasn’t gay considering how misguided the duffers seem to be while dealing with queer storylines which shows us again the importance of queer representation in tv productions specially in the writers room because at the end of the day, this weight shouldn’t fall on the actor’s shoulders because they don’t write the show and their real life sexuality shouldn’t matter in the writing if we have writers truly committed to the characters.
to end this, i have to say that it’s funny how ross can shade people and respond to rumors on his ig all the time but it was crickets when we had so many homophobes mocking will’s coming out scene (including the owner of a big social media platform) and attacking noah, an openly gay actor that they should try to protect if they truly believe in allyship.
they could’ve denied that byler was happening YEARS ago btw but they decided to string us along for profit
Duffers I'm in your walls....
It hurts so bad to have been taken advantage of like this. What the Duffer brothers have done is truly evil and needlessly cruel. There was no reason for Will to use his feelings to prop up a toxic straight relationship. There was no reason to drag his feelings for Mike all the way out to the last season. There was no reason he shouldn’t have been able to have a proper love interest if they never intended on having him end up with Mike. We have created this beautiful queer community here online of people who love and have passion for these characters and the queer love we believed they shared. I can’t for the life of me understand why the Duffers would want to mock that community and let it down so completely. I am heartbroken. I love Mike and Will with all my heart and always will, but I’m never gonna be able to watch the show again without my heart aching for what could have been.
I can and I will headcanon that all that stuff in the last scenes happening, and then Heroes start playing, and Mike feels someone touching his hand.
He was Vecna'd. And it was literally his fucking hell. He lost El, he lost Will, and he slowly becomes his father.

THE DUFFER BROTHERS WERE NEVER GOING TO GIVE US THIS SCENE, NOAH HAD TO ASK FOR THIS SCENE WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
I really hate the duffer brothers
girl we don’t blame you, I’m sorry they convinced you that this was an okay thing to do to you
