very strange to be a fan of a "classic" thing bc like. its overrated. its underrated. everyone knows OF it but its a toss up if theyve actually ever engaged with it. you want to talk to everyone about how good it is but its so culturally ingrained that everyone waves off your glowing review as "well duh, its [classic thing]". its dismissed and overlooked BECAUSE it is so good. you cant find anyone to talk to about it except for deranged ppl on tumblr bc the masses havent actively thought about it in 30 years. its been referenced in every form of media since it released. no one gives it a second thought. youre going crazy.
confusion and memories: things aren't adding up in volume 2, and that is very much intentional
come along as i explain what the fuck is going on. everything is not what it seems:
vecna turns your own mind against you
going "cold turkey" from the "amount you were clearly on" could be causing confusion, paranoia, hallucinations...?
confused about what's happening, not sure what's real anymore, nothing is making sense
confusion, connections, a big puzzle piece missing
remembering places, memories coming back
and memories can't hurt you, they say?
but they can hurt you. because they can be used against you.
and what could the consequence of this be? vecna constructing the narrative. causing confusion:
because: remember where we were before vecna got into will's mind?
will has been receiving many signals from mike, to the point that he in vol1 and the beginning of vol2 stayed consistently determined to pursue him romantically - but suddenly it stopped, the signals stopped coming through. now, mike is barely even present at all, though he remains in will's periphery. as many have called it, mike has seemingly been "lobotomized". will has, as vickie put it, seemingly gone "cold turkey" from mike's signals.
but that's not the reality; the narrative has been messed with on purpose. we are confused and distraught, because will's perspective has shifted. and this happened because vecna got into will's head and misconstrued his memories of mike to hurt him. vecna is using will's love for mike against him - that is the last leverage he holds over will.
now mike needs to reach through to will. and stop him from slipping further away.

As someone who has not even remotely given up post Vol2âŚI think Michael is actually the one who is gonna be more like Robin in the sense of her âI just needed one safe person to tell (Ă la Steve).â
Itâs CLEAR that while Will seems to think heâs like Robin, heâs actually a lot braver. He told everyone he knew he didnât like girls just to free himself from the fear of it being used against himâgoing right back to that version of him willing to stand on business in the face of other people maybe thinking heâs foolish or sensitive (looking at you âmy full name!â Will, who called everyone out for not caring about DND anymore). Heâs brave, and willing to stand out from the pack in a way Robin clearly isnâtâ
âbut there is someone else who needed Will to be brave in front of him, someone who has always looked to Will for reassurance that he wasnât crazy together, who everyone thinks is straight because be has an attachment that can be interpreted as romantic even though they havenât kissed all season who everyone has spent a whole season interpreting based on their own desiresâŚjust like Robin was with Steve in S3.
(Mike is scared. He said so himself. Will coming out in front of everyone because he wants to be accepted in being different is not the same as someone who is still figuring out how to accept themselvesâand when someone does something first, it gets easier. All those parallels between RoVickie and Mlvn werenât for nothing. All those parallels in wills coming out to previous scenes with Mike werenât for nothing. That painting isnt for nothingâŚand Will choosing a wider audience for his coming out isnât for nothing either.
Itâs for Mike. All of it is to give the most insecure guy of them all, the one who freezes when heâs not needed, gets punished for stepping out of line, and has tried to be NORMAL for three seasons straightâitâs so he can can know heâs already cared for, and has the space with even just one other person to be brave with his heart, as an individual and not just as half of a ship).
