*This* is the biggest killer of VR games
Did you know that the Quest 2 VR headset outsold the Xbox Series consoles during the pandemic?
No? You're not alone.
Yet something that is said, over and over, anywhere the Quest headsets are discussed online, is "where are the more elaborate games?" with users seemingly crying out for bigger, bolder, more involved experiences.
Unfortunately, "where" is the wrong w-question to ask when it comes to what's killing possible VR games before they get the chance to exist.
The question people should ask, is why.
So they MIGHT have opened an official Gacha store near me and it MIGHT have Gundam Witch From Mercury standees and I MIGHT have kept buying until I got Chuchu
What if 'Gundam SEED' was told from Flay's point of view? How would they approach it? Would it have been better?
Ooooh, that's interesting Anon.
I haven't watched SEED in quite a long time (~8 years), so I only remember the highest of high level events, but SEED from her eyes could've been very different...
So I saw Gundam Seed FREEDOM...
... and honestly it defies analysis.
I will avoid spoilers for major plot elements in this write-up.
I'm a huge Gundam fan. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who has followed my work for a long time, as I frequently bring it up, even in entirely inapplicable situations.
But even though I've been a fan since the late 90s, I'd never had a chance to see any of it in the cinema - so when AllTheAnime organised a special short run of the movie for UK theatres, I jumped at the chance.
What I saw surprised me.

Open Casting - VA Spec - Judge Tawny
This open call for voice samples is in the interest of creating two small, additional roles in NALE, which previously did not exist, for Dylan Merlo and Judge Tawny.
These are unpaid roles; they're outside our budget as they don't need to exist in-game, but we're going to add each of them if we get a sufficiently high-quality submission for each part.
This would be a chance for a VA to get an additional credit for a very small amount of work.

Iâll try to answer them soon.
I find you every time I search the Effector Theme on Tumblr. Which theme are you using now? It looks great
Hi there; I think this is because when the theme was deleted, I did a bit of work to try and resurrect it. The theme I use now is one of these...

I donât think the exact one is still there, but there are some similar ones.
Apologies if you sent this a while back; I havenât used Tumblr much since the exodus a while ago.

Fight for justice in Chapter II of this anime-themed graphic adventure game!
Hey all, my new indie game is now up on itch.io and free for just this weekend! Check it out!
Microsoft announces it will shut down ebook program and confiscate its customers' libraries
Microsoft has a DRM-locked ebook store that isnât making enough money, so theyâre shutting it down and taking away every book that every one of its customers acquired effective July 1.
Customers will receive refunds.
This puts the difference between DRM-locked media and unencumbered media into sharp contrast. I have bought a lot of MP3s over the years, thousands of them, and many of the retailers I purchased from are long gone, but I still have the MP3s. Likewise, I have bought many books from long-defunct booksellers and even defunct publishers, but I still own those books.
When I was a bookseller, nothing I could do would result in your losing the book that I sold you. If I regretted selling you a book, I didnât get to break into your house and steal it, even if I left you a cash refund for the price you paid.
People sometimes treat me like my decision not to sell my books through Amazonâs Audible is irrational (Audible will not let writers or publisher opt to sell their books without DRM), but if you think Amazon is immune to this kind of shenanigans, you are sadly mistaken. My books matter a lot to me. I just paid $8,000 to have a container full of books shipped from a storage locker in the UK to our home in LA so I can be closer to them. The idea that the books I buy can be relegated to some kind of fucking software license is the most grotesque and awful thing I can imagine: if the publishing industry deliberately set out to destroy any sense of intrinsic, civilization-supporting value in literary works, they could not have done a better job.

If youâve got an ereader and want to actually own your books, I heartily recommend using cailbre to scrape the DRM off and so you can backup the files.

Calibre is wonderful. Todayâs (28 June 2019) update from BoingBoing (no new information, just another dose of âweâre still horrified but sadly not surprisedâ) :
Microsoft is about to shut off its ebook DRM servers: âThe books will stop working"Â
âThe books will stop workingâ: Thatâs the substance of the reminder that Microsoft sent to customers for their ebook store, reminding them that, as announced in April, the company is getting out of the ebook business because it wasnât profitable enough for them, and when they do, theyâre going to shut off their DRM servers, which will make the books stop working.
Almost exactly fifteen years ago, I gave an influential, widely cited talk at Microsoft Research where I predicted this exact outcome. I donât feel good about the fact that I got it right. This is a fucking travesty.
As Rob Donoghue tweeted, âI keep saying it and it sounds worse each timeâŚThere will be refunds, and reasonable voice says to me itâs just business, but the book voice wants to burn it all down. Iâm kind of with the book voice on this one.â
Me too.

BURN IT ALL DOWN
Just wanted to say that, as an indie author, this is precisely the sort of reason I chose not to have DRM on my books when I was given the chance. Consider very carefully which platforms you support.
UK 1995
This gives me such nostalgia. I had this magazine, way back in 1995. I took it with me on a holiday, and must have read it cover to cover so many times...
This mag came out literally as the Saturn and Playstation launches were happening, and it was such an exciting time for gaming. Wipeout looked awesome, everyone was loving Virtua Fighter in the arcades, and we were stunned that we were finally getting such high-quality 3D videogames in the home.
MAXIMUM was, in the end, an unsuccessful magazine. If Iâm to speculate, I think EMAP wanted it to be their EDGE; a high-brow games publication that punched above its weight, and I loved it for its coverage of import and SNK titles... But it only ran for maybe a yearâs worth of issues, which was a shame.
Still, most of the writing team worked for the official Sega Saturn mag and CVG, so I was still able to follow their writing over the next few years. Those journos seemed to really love gaming; it was something quite special.

True, but then again there is still Deamon x Machina for us Armored Core fans.
You think so? Iâm not so sure. I liked the look of it, and certainly it looked VERY like an AC title in the original trailer, but the early code demo they released wasnât the best experience. Fingers crossed the final game is much better and it was just a poor demo.
