it’s hard for the senators heart not to sink at the close inspection of his new arm, not because of what it was - but merely because of how much worse it could have been. she swallows, repressing any thoughts of what could have happened to him, how she had raced to where the jedi were in combat with a pit in her stomach and fear of what she would find. thankfully, he was going to be fine. he was perfect. it was as if he was born with the mechanical arm.

padmé mimics his infectious smile, approaching him and reaching out her fingertips to the new part of him. she gently places her hand in his, allowing herself to feel the cool metal on her skin. it does not feel droid like, it does not feel unwelcoming. it’s him. slowly, her eyes move from the arm to his, curious. “ can you feel me? ”

realizing that a part of your body was gone took a while to settle in. you weren’t prepared for the emotional turmoil it brought, and a thick pang of uneasiness suddenly settles in, doubt lingering at the corner of your mind. ( would she mind ? ) a part of you was hard to believe this was real. after your confession, you had terminated any idea of a relationship. now , you feel as if you’re going to wake up at any moment feeling cold, without padmé.

you had always known love to be a kind of warmth. ever since leaving tatooine there was a wound that had never fully healed. the void where any sort of affection used to be was yanked away from you. you’re not sure what healing is supposed to feel like now, but with padmé’s hand in yours, you think it feels something similar. the sensation of touch is fainter, but it’s there.
