even with his reassurance , grace still wouldnβt be surprised if when they got on the ice bennett couldnβt help the laughter from escaping him , not that heβd try to do that anyways . she wishes she could reach up and playfully shove him in the arm when he brings up the penguin walkers again , but sheβs too focused on keeping a good grip on his hands to avoid falling over as she seemed prone to do . β balance over the blades β¦ i should be able to do that β she takes in a deep breath , doing her best to ground her feet before taking one ( slow ) step after the other following bennettβs lead , holding onto him so tight that he couldnβt let go of her even if he wanted to . β okay , i think this is far enough for now β nerves taint her laughter , a hand reaching out to immediately grab onto the side wall when she loses his supportΒ . β how did you do that so fast ? β she asks , the answer to which is more than obvious .Β
she waits for him to settle himself on the ice , only making any slight movement when he has his arms reached out to her again. β how else am i supposed to know where to put my feet ?? β the dramatics are starting to come out , but she knows the only way toΒ get on the ice in one piece is to listen to what heβs saying . eyes stay locked on him , hands still holding onto the wall as she takes a step onto the ice . she wants to say something snarky about how it was a piece of cake , but sheβs so worried about keeping herself upright she canβt even think of anything to say . she reaches out for his hands first , securing herself in his grasp before she practically drags her other foot into the rinkΒ . β bennett , lookΒ β i did it ! β her smile is beaming , she doesnβt even freak out when the momentum causes her to glide forward a little bit once she gets both feet on the ice . β if you just pull me around like this does it count as learning how to skate ? β her playful nature returns , though sheβs essentially frozen on the ice , nervous of the potential catastrophe that would come with moving her feet any more than she already has . β okay so far iβm alive ,Β now what ? β
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β β weβll have you skating properly by the end of this β just you see, β Β Β bennett reassures her, though heβs really in no place to be making promises like that. however, itβs always good to go into things with a positive mindset. grace can ironically be filled with a seeming lack of it β but heβs seen clumsy figure skaters before ( though more often than not, heβll admit there seems to be a correlation ). a laugh leaves him at the suggestion β though quietly, he had predicted the session might come back down to that. Β Β β iβll pull you around for a bit to let you get more comfortable in the skates β β Β Β he decides after a moment, smile tugging at his lips. Β Β β β i wonβt go too fast, promise. and then we can see about getting you going under your own power. β Β Β
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β skating is certainly one thing that comes naturally to him and it shows in his ease ( even with grace clinging to him ), though heβd also admit that itβs a little odd to be without all his gear and stick β freeing in a different way, like all the family and friend skates. he straightens up a bit, moving slowly backways, working up their momentum gradually β a sharp contrast to the explosive speed heβs capable of, but certainly more appropriate for their setting. Β Β β try not to lean too far forward when i pull you β then youβll end up falling on your face. center of gravity β β Β Β he briefly gestures to her midsection the best he can without upsetting her vice grip. Β Β β β over the skates. β Β Β theyβre gliding pretty well now, bennett with an occasional glance over his shoulder to make sure theyβre not about to run into anyone β luckily, the rink is pretty empty. perks of being a college student, he supposes. Β Β β all right, weβre coming up on a turn now β youβre doing great, just let the momentum carry you. β

Β Β Β Β Murphy nodded, all eyes and ears and pretty much his entire being focused on Bennett. This is probably in his top five favorite positions while looking up at his best friend. It would have been in his top three, but theyβre outside and there were other factors here. β I always make good points, β he starts, halting at the pull of his shirt and Bennettβs lips landing on his upper lip. Okay? That was smooth. β Uhhh β β Murphy continued right after, his fingers grabbing Bennettβs wrist, the one hovering near the zipper of his jeans. β β quit doing that. β He pretended to glare, lips curving into a simple grin almost immediately. β Iβd say a six, β he decided, subtly moving one leg and securing it on the backs of Bennettβs thighs, locking him in place. β Okay, a solid five-point five. β Brushing his lips against Bennettβs, Murphy grinned. β Should we go? β
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β a smug look crosses bennettβs face as murphy grabs his wrist against, gone as soon as it appeared and replaced instead with amusement at murphy determining their odds of finding this elusive not-wine basement. that too wavers as he feels one of murphyβs long legs hook around his thighs, his expression finally settling somewhere between smug and fond. any thoughts of properly claiming victory quickly dissipate as murphys leans in once again, their kiss more a tease than proper β a promise. bennett canβt help but delay them a moment longer, pressing back in when murphy draws back for a deeper kiss, one that feels a bit more proper. Β Β β should we ?? β Β Β bennett echoes with a straight face when he finally takes his leave, his hand ( the one murphy had moved away ) settling back on the thigh of murphyβs leg keeping him in place β as if he himself hadnβt been the one boxing murphy in only moments earlier. he could muscle his way out of this if he really wanted to, and maybe thatβs what murphy wants. Β Β β okay, letβs find this wine cellar or whatever, but iβm not carrying your ass. β
bcalrightsβ:
β NICE DOING BUSINESS WITH YOU. β itβs a win-win, she figures. good company with a free milkshake, and bennett gets a seat in an otherwise crowded diner. soleil takes the jacket from him, turning briefly to drape it across the back of her own seat.Β β sure thing, β the girl replies, sliding over the bowl beside her.Β β hardly. iβve got band rehearsals tomorrow and iβm overthinking lyrics. feels like what i usually do when iβm idle for too long. β blue hues sneak another peek at the notebook in front of her, letting out a soft laugh.Β β either that or itβs the grease in the air. iβll give america this: iβve never been to a diner i didnβt like. the health hazards are just part of its charm. β
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β bennett huffs out a laugh, methodically peeling the lids of two creamers and dumping them into the coffee mug, the spoon clinking in a familiar tune as he gives it all a brief stir. Β Β β oh itβs definitely the fact that bacon grease just gets into everything on the griddle, β Β Β he says, chin tipping forward a bit to gesture through the window they can see through to the back kitchen. Β Β β itβs what makes everything taste good β sober or drunk, no matter what time of day. β Β Β the waiter comes by to take his order ; bennett gets his usual ( bacon, scrambled eggs, homefries with onions, toast ), Β Β β β oh and a strawberry milkshake when you get the chance. βΒ Β he hasnβt forgotten his end of the bargain either. attention swinging back to sol he gestures at her lyric notebook, bringing his coffee up for a quick sip. Β Β β maybe you should give it a rest for a while β staring at your lyrics more isnβt going to help with overthinking. β
ofmvrphyβ:
Β Β Β Β β You said you wanted some air and some quiet time, β Murphy reasoned, shrugging a shoulder. β If you wanted some fancy genuine alfresco you could have said something. β He wanted to say heβs no mind reader to amp up the banter but decided against it. Besides, Bennett was grinning, so theyβre technically both winning. He pretends to not notice that Bennett hasnβt moved, or that heβs doing things with his hand again. β I β what? I was on a rhetorical roll. Thereβs definitely an underground something, Iβm certain of that, at least. β Whether they will fit or itβs got enough room, they will eventually find out. If they decide to go β better yet if Bennett planned on moving his finely formed hockey ass. β We might be. Does that make you Ben Gates and Iβm the President of the United States? You donβt strike me as the Riley Poole type. β And with that, Murphy tugged Bennett closer once again. β So? β
.
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β β so β β Β Β bennett echoes, grinning as murphy tugs him closer β further banter is tempting ( you want something, zabala ?? ), but not quite attractive enough to him in the moment. sometimes, even with all the patience in the world, thereβs no need to stave off the inevitable. heβs getting there, murphy is too β bennett knows that with the same surety when he knows a pass is going to connect. Β Β β hmmm β you make a good point β β Β Β his fingers make a show of smoothing over the collar of murphyβs shirt, tracing his collar bone before skimming lower to fist his shirt, tugging gently but firmly, closing the last space between them. he presses a kiss to murphyβs top lip, grinning as he barely pulls back, the hand still on murphyβs thigh resuming its inching upward path. Β Β β on a scale of one to ten β β Β Β one finger traces murphyβs fly nonchalantly. Β Β β β how sure are you about finding this underground passage ?? β

βplease, do you know how often the pros are hungover?β she laughed, before wincing - the headache was settling in, and sheβd have to go raid graceβs cabinets for some ibuprofen before she stumbled home. hopefully bennettβs feast would sober her up enough to let her do so without getting too distracted. βthis is why i just do intramural now - i mean, i donβt even think we have a real softball team, but i had a scholarship to a couple schools offered if i went to play for them, but whereβs the fun in that? then i gotta be sober, like, too much, and some other kid probably needed the scholarship money more anyways.β sheβs tempted to lift the bacon out of the pan, though she knows itβll be a bad idea, so she pulls on her hair and starts braiding it instead. βfried, please. i just want simple and easy and to eat it asap - i donβt think i ate before i showed up tonight which, iβm like, having deep regrets about right now.β
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β bennettβs mouth presses briefly into a somber line, but he doesnβt reply, focuses instead at the task at hand, flipping the bacon as he nods along to merrickβs words to show heβs listening β or at least acknowledging that sheβs speaking.Β Β Β β you should eat some carbs too β β Β Β he says, deeming the bacon done enough and scooping it onto a plate and setting it off to the side between the stove and where merrickβs sitting atop the counter. he fully expects her to start munching away at the pieces before the eggs are done β itβs not a diner after all, and bacon is irresistible hot off the griddle. the grease sizzles as bennett cracks a couple eggs into the pan, waits a few moments and then turns down the heat. cooking isnβt really something he excels at beyond the basics, but he likes how mundane it feels β a basic need that everyone engages in. Β Β β β you staying with grace tonight or headed home after this ?? β
mmmm would you go for natemac's anti-carbonara gameday approach or tazer's plant-based agendaβ
" as a society we've come pretty far with PLANT BASED foods, let's be real. i just don't think i could function properly without a carbo-load before game days . . . besides, who doesn't love a good chicken parm the night before, right ?? besides, have you see tazer's ass ?? he's gotta be doing something right. no disrespect to the dogg though β 18.5 carots of new bling, so he's gotta be doing something right too . . . even if it's ugly. "
kill, fuck, marry ; sunset hill β
" i mean . . . it's obvious, right ?? i'd get rid of those people who walk in slow moving mobs that just hog the entire sidewalk and don't move outta your way, y'know ?? it's one of my pet peeves, really β and then murphy x2. "
do you like either of your best friendsβ
" murphy knows i love him β who's my other best friend ?? . . . β em, is that you ?? just because i left your laundry in the rain doesn't mean i don't like you. "

she nods - she canβt imagine trying to cook bacon right now, the grease would surely burn her and while sheβs had her fair share of injuries from cheer and softball, sheβs a bit of a baby, especially when sheβs as intoxicated as she is at the moment. βi promise not to kill you,β she swears, solemn before a smile breaks wide across her features, her feet dangling off the counter sheβs sitting on. βi donβt think i could even hold a knife in my hand right now anyways, and my real violence usually comes with throwing objects - so i promise, youβre safe. besides, anyone who helps feed others is a-okay in my book.β she watches him quietly for a moment - the partyβs died down, some, but thereβs still enough people floating in and out to say it isnβt over quite yet. βhow come youβre sober? i figured everyone was drinking for alcohol poisoning tonight - did you have fun, at least?β
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β hopefully the partyβs died down enough that the smell of bacon doesnβt draw out every other drunk and stoned individual from the woodwork β bennett isnβt holding out hope, but he does know that itβs also a pretty big house. he lets the slices do their thing, settling one hand against the counter to support his weight ( hopefully, she likes it crispy β most people do ). Β Β β designated driver β β Β Β he says with a vague wave, though itβs without any trace of contempt or gloom for it β truth is, he usually offers. bennett pauses, picking up the spatula again, poking at one of the crisping pieces sizzling again, before he glances back over at the blonde with a rueful smile. Β Β β β and iβm getting too old to be showing up to practice hungover and sweating beer from every pore. but yeah, β Β Β cue a good natured laugh.Β Β Β Β β i still had a good time. β Β Β a very good time actually, but most things with murphy are. Β Β β howβdβyou like your eggs ?? β
seraphinarhβ:
thereβs only so much you really get to know someone when you tended to keep things more surface level. they were friendly and cordial, the way neighbors are. itβs routine to make small talk, but nothing too in depth. βyeaβ¦ i used to be until i was like seventeen, and then i started becoming this version.β she admitted. sera was really quiet throughout her formative years. never really had too many friends and wasnβt someone to go out much. things only changed sometime in her junior year when she met her best friend. since then, her more introverted nature seemed to disappear expect for some choice moments. she laughed and nodded in agreement. βitβs still entertaining. itβs like watching trashy reality tv β except itβs live and as real as it gets.β she remembered the nonsense she went through at that age. a lot of tears and even more drinks, βoh, nothing, iβm just nosey. maybe tell someone back home? probably notice if theyβre still on campus together or not. overhear some more shit? you like to people watch?β
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β bennett hums in acknowledgement and a bit in agreement as well. people change a lot β heβs keenly aware of this : that none of them are the same people they were when they graduated high school, from when they started college, and even from the time they were an underclassman. growth is a normal event of life, and bennett likes to think thatβs a reassuring thing β than nothing will ever stay as it is ( but sometimes, itβs a little sad too ). Β Β β itβs ecology, β Β Β he decides after a few moments. Β Β β everything intertwined with one another, especially on a campus like this even though we donβt always notice it. β Β Β heβs still picking at the corner of that shingle and probably should stop. he doesnβt.Β Β Β β people watching can be fun β i suppose thereβs something satisfying about hearing about other peopleβs drama and not getting sucked into it in the least. β Β Β bennett huffs a laugh at that. Β Β β you could call yourself an anthropologist, though it probably is best that you donβt write your findings down in a book. β
noahtranterβ:
βthatβs a shit job, man,β noah laughs and nods his head,Β βi do? thatβs because i really fucking need it. but yeah, i have time. i have exactlyβ¦β he looks down to his phone,Β βan hour and twelve minutes.β he booked the studio from ten am to one pm and heβs sure he wonβt be able to deliver anything good without caffeine in his body. βbut yeah, an apology coffee sounds great. i hope it has hazelnut syrup in it,β he grins and puts his phone back in his pocket. βyou wanna go to rainyβs? itβs close to the studio.β rainyβs is a small coffee shop not many people know about. mostly musicians and producers who go to the studio, and they even have a discount for being a part of shu.
.
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β β thatβs on you, β Β Β bennett says lightly, shoulders rising in a shrug β heβs talking about the hazelnut syrup, and then about the cafe suggestion. he likes to think heβs a pretty good cafe connoisseur, especially going into his final year here at sunset hills, but he canβt say that heβs ever been to rainyβs either β too far from the life sciences building and the hockey arena, and even when heβd been dating sadie, sheβd had her own haunts where the theatre kids liked to hang out. Β Β β sounds good to me β β Β Β heβs not in any particular hurry either, happy to stretch his legs in the nice sunny morning air and avoid having to hunker down and finish that midterm essay he really wants to finish before the next roadtrip. Β Β β β you gotta lead the way though βcause I canβt say I know where that is. β

STARTER FOR: @nasrinfmβ EXTRA: nasrinβs apartment
Β Β Β Β Β a love of animals was something bennett would never shake β it might have even been his first love, even if hockey was often said to be that ( itβs just a matter of probability, he was around horses will before he could even put on skates ). but though hockey took over a great deal of his time, he was glad he could still find pockets of time for volunteering at the animal shelter, and short dog sitting gigs like the one he had with nasrin and teddy. heβs in her kitchen, prepping teddyβs diner time meal when the door creaks open, something that might be alarming if not for the excited way teddy immediately bounded toward the door. bennett follows a bit more slowly, food bowl in hand and smile on his face as he watches the joyful reunion.Β Β Β β someoneβs happy to see you β βΒ Β Β he says, clearly amused.Β Β Β Β β β donβt worry, iβm not offended. βΒ Β Β if it was anything he loved most about dogs, it was their staunch loyalty to their owners.
seraphinarhβ:
βyouβre the grandpaΒ β i never thought you would be,β she commented between a few small chuckles. an ironic take given that was her position this evening. βgood luck wrangling βem,β she added. sera probably just needed a few days of sleep to be feel better. she wasnβt eighteen anymore so the back to back days filled with the club atmosphere and tons of shots were starting to add up. at least, for this evening. βitβs better sitting up here then down there,β her index finger gesturing towards the front entrance of the home. βi wouldnβt be able to get as much tea as i did. plus, i canβt leave my friends. girl code 101.β they also werenβt supposed to separate, but sera could handle her own. a party atmosphere was what she navigated through daily β drunk college student didnβt compare to grown men. she just wanted to be alone for a little and she figured the roof would do just that. βiβve heard so many fight tonight. i swear, itβs like everyone on campus are doing some type of sneak shit.β
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β β i didnβt take you as a fly on the wall type β β Β Β itβs not meant to be accusatory, not even surprise coloring his voice, more an observation than anything else β a limited observation bennett realizes. theyβre friends, by the loose modern definition of the word, but heβs under no illusions that they really know anything about each other. ( and perhaps, even that is not so rare between friends these days either ). besides, everyone needs a moment to get away from everything at one point or another. he cranes his head forward a bit as seraphina points, trying to see past the gutter of the house to get a better view of the walkway below. itβs quiet now, or at least relatively so. Β Β β β but that doesnβt seem so surprising, does it ?? β Β Β he settles back, glancing over at seraphina with a shrug. Β Β β everything seems like a really big deal when youβre nineteen and drunk. β Β Β heβd definitely seen no shortage of underclassmen when heβd been inside, always almost hilariously standing out from the rest of the crowd. bennett picks at the corner of a shingle with his fingernail, Β Β β β whatβdβyou plan on doing with your newfound power ?? β
