Pretty much anything - I reckon the general rule is to start with something with smooth sides and something you can keep a hold of. Open your cupboards and draws and look for something that will allow for reasonably easy insertion. Shampoo bottle or softdrink bottles are nice since they vary in size and shape ( make sure they full to ensure the bottle keeps it shape ). You hand/s can do some serious stretching all by themselves.

I say it is down to regular use and abuse.  Obviously commons sense helps.
