It's often frustrating when folks who don't know what player-hostile game design is and think "player hostile" simply means "difficult" blunder into discussions of the topic thinking they have any opinion worth listening to, but occasionally it does lead to very entertaining claims about which games are and are not player-hostile in character. I just saw someone cite Portal as an example of player-hostile game design. Like, Portal is extraordinarily player friendly in its design, to the extent of implementing alternative solutions for many puzzles if you somehow manage to render the developer-intended solution impossible, which is much further than even the most accommodating puzzle games typically go. The fact that a mean lesbian makes fun of you if you actually need to use one of those alternative solutions does not make the game player hostile – in fact, for certain audiences I'd argue it does rather the opposite!
