Like, Jennifer Lawrence. I don't think Jennifer Lawrence is necessarily a bad person, but after she referred to Jesse Eisenberg's OCD as a "weird quirk," I can't really find it in myself to stan her, because I suffer from anxiety, and it really, really got to me. I don't assume that people who like Jennifer Lawrence are like, okay with ableism, but at the same time, if someone made a point of telling me that I should like Jennifer Lawrence, because she was probably nervous and people can say things that don't necessarily reflect what's in their hearts when they get nervous, I would probably feel as if my experience was being disrespected. Because I know that, and the point isn't that there were absolutely no reasons why Jennifer Lawrence might not be a bad person for saying something ableist, but rather that there's a  lot for me at stake when it comes to stuff like that, and so while I'm not going to vilify her for saying the wrong thing, I can't bring myself to shake off the suspicion and negative association. When you want to defend someone, you should probably assume that the people who really have something at stake have already considered your arguments, and concluded that, based on personal experience, those arguments are not enough. I've admittedly failed to respect that in the past, which is why I want to make it absolutely clear that if I have a reason for liking someone despite their mistakes, I'm not going to offer that opinion unsolicited, and that when I'm asked to provide a perspective on a fucked up action and admit that I think there are reasons for cutting someone some slack, I'm only providing my personal feelings because I was asked, not because I think those who don't share those feelings are wrong to take a different approach.
